While this home is not a five star hotel it was a five star experience. This sweet farmhouse is very cozy and private. Debbie had the two wood stoves stoked for us and the bed was very comfortable. We enjoyed the day on Saturday touring the local vineyards. We had breakfast at the house, bring all your supplies. The bonfire was great. On the way out on Sunday we stopped at Hanging Rock ten minutes away, and had a great hike. You could spend days here.

We are 55+ and empty nesters. We travel a lot and utilize VRBO as much as possible. We had been planning a trip to the Danbury area for some time, we only live about 2 hours away but love the area. Our first choice of staying at the State Park was eliminated due to a no pet policy in the cabins. Whenever we use VRBO we filter using the pet friendly option. We loved the home, it has history, and is very secluded and quiet. We hope to live somewhere one day where we cannot hear vehicular traffic! The house was very clean and warm with everything we needed! There were no extra fees and did we say PET FRIENDLY!? There is room for more family members but we were alone. The wood stoves and supplied wood were welcome. If you do not know how to heat a home with a wood stove you might have an issue but there are other heaters too, including a Monitor kerosene heater which kept the kitchen plenty warm. We enjoyed the woods to walk in and got to see a woodchuck/groundhog in the front yard and deer also. We enjoyed a fire in the pit one night and even though it got down to 28f or so we were plenty warm. We cooked out on the grill and had a wonderful time. We will keep it as a favorite! You are very close to the Hanging Rock State Park with a beautiful view of the mountain, and many canoe/tubing companies for the Dan River. They are pretty much closed by the end of October though. We did find one available. That is the norm in NC though. The owner was very helpful and I will recommend this property to others. We cooked in the house mostly but did eat at the Cafe at the Danbury General Store. Thanks again!

The property was just as it was described; actually it was better. The mountain views were amazing and it was so peaceful. We were looking for a nice quiet place to escape from the stresses of life and enjoy time on our motorcycle and this was the perfect place to do just that! Would recommend this place to anyone who is looking to get away and relax!

Descriptions and pictures in VRBO were accurate. We enjoyed our getaway-very peaceful and relaxing. Had visitors-a fawn and its momma one day, a wild turkey with 3 babies in tow another day, and bunches of bunny rabbits! Great views of mountains from front porch-enjoyed just sitting there and taking in nature. Debbie met us at the front door and was very accommodating. Even supplied us with fresh tomatoes and sweet corn! Very prompt return of rental deposit.

My husband and I had a fabulous time at the farmhouse! The fire was already going in the wood burning stove when we got there! We enjoined early morning walks around the property and afternoons on the front porch. The best part was that the house is very secluded and yet very close to Hanging Rock and Pilot Mt State Parks which we hiked both days during our stay. We hope to be back in summer!

Imagine renting the entire farm from "The Walton's" television show for your vacation and you'll have some idea of what your stay at the Vaden Farmhouse would be like. If your vacation style favors the gentle stillness of being enveloped by mountains, forests, fields, barns, gravel roads, and streams; if you enjoy the creak of century old wood floors or rocking on a porch that has seen forty thousand sunsets; and if you fancy wood stoves for heat and sink-rinsing your dishes, I highly recommend the Vaden Farmhouse. The house was fully stocked with necessities, including all kitchen items, linens, and firewood. A large town (King) is not too far away, for supplies, while a small town (Danbury) is half that distance and has a general store and gas. We stayed during the dead of winter and loved it. I believe Spring and Fall would be even better, considering all of the surrounding natural beauty, and we will return then.

Owner response: Thanks for the beautiful drawings of the barns and surrounding scenery. I can't wait to frame them and put them up in the farmhouse. Hope to see you all back again this summer.

My boyfriend and I decided to go hiking on the marvelous trails of Hanging Rock and chose the farmhouse for our two night stay. We couldn't of been happier or more satisfied with what the farmhouse had to offer! It is perfectly secluded on top of a hill and gave the most breathtaking view of Hanging Rock. He and I spent most of our time outside, enjoying each other's company under the bright stars with a bon fire. We were both very pleased with the location and will definitely be returning! Whether you have children and need a spacious home, or are a couple looking for to enjoy each other while surrounded by nature's best offering, this place will suit you!

Our family was looking for a nice, affordable place to stay while we explored Hanging Rock State Park. While the cabins in the park were affordable, they weren't what we were looking for. After digging around online we found this farmhouse. I thought the price was a typo! I was pleasantly surprised when it wasn't when so many places in the area were 300 and up per night. We had an entire turn of the century farmhouse on 50 acres with the best view of Hanging Rock and Moore's Knob all to ourselves without any neighbors. We loved just sitting on the front porch, watching the light change on the mountains. We chose to leave our laptops behind and just enjoy the peace and quiet. There is a tv, dvd player, and radio. I do recommend bring bikes so kids can bike up and down the driveway as another way to play outside. The owner was great to work with and very available when we'd call with a question. The photos accurately depict the house and property. It was very easy to find, clean, well-maintained, the park is close, and I would and have recommended this property to many people!

We had a wonderful stay in Hanging Rock/Danbury thanks to this charming farmhouse. We have a preschooler and an infant, and this was the ideal place to vacation. Our 3 year old played outside from sun up to sun down, and was fascinated with the butterfly bush along with all of the other "Adventures" she went on. Seen how the house is not near any roads, she was free to run around without having to worry about her safety. We didn't have to do much and it was so nice to just relax and let our kids enjoy nature. We visited the cascades which were both easy enough to get to, as well as the swimming lake which turned in to a day of fun since the weather was perfect. I recommend bringing food for all of your meals because there isn't anything nearby and the one diner we tried for lunch wasn't too tasty. We will definitely keep this place in mind for our annual family vacations in the future!

About the owner: I'm the 4th generation property owner. My great garndfather built this house around 1902. There is a family cemetery located on the property. I grew up here and Stokes County has lots of recreational activities to offer. I have lived in many places throughout the US but this area is where my heart has always been. Love it here; you will too!

                      Why the Owner Chose Danbury:
The best thing about this property is its incredible view and the privacy the 50 acre property affords.
