About: The operators are two siblings and a friend who hope to fill a need in a breathtaking seaside community. As a university town, wedding mecca and sailing center, Bristol attracts thousands of visitors each year. Pam, Steve and Berta are Bristol natives whose love for the town has grown over the years. Pam returned to Bristol after a decades-long career in NYC. Steve is an attorney with a practice in Bristol. Berta is of Portuguese heritage who's family emigrated to Bristol. Together they hope to make your stay as relaxing and enjoyable and will leave no detail unattended to show the best that Bristol has to offer.
Why Bristol: Once part of a large estate owned by the Street family, the 4 acre site was split from the larger property when Mary Street sold the family estate in 1967. Mary and Harold 'Banny' Bannister, a much-beloved couple, built the home with attention to detail. Upon Banny's death at age 95, the house was readded to the original 'Street' family parcel. The home, with its sweeping lawn and views of Walker's Cove, offers a lovely setting to relax and enjoy the beauty of a southern New England coastal village. We take a special interest in wedding groups and can arrange for spa services in the home. We also welcome RWU families and are pleased to have families touring the campus, attending parents' weekends, graduations and alumni events. We also accommodate bridal groups, families, and are child friendly.
The Unique Benefits at this House: Bristol is rich in history and this property is no exception. The first Episcopal church in Bristol was located just north of the house and an historical burial site is still in evidence. The headstone of Thomas Walker circa 1745 reads 'First of his race to be buried in this place' and lies among other members of the Walker family. The graveyard is one of several specially designated historical burial grounds in Bristol.
The property offers access to the bay and boating. Moorings are available upon request. Sailors and visitors to the Herreshoff Marine Museum, boat builders and marine suppliers are welcome to this historic yachting center.
