Love the pictures? Good. Soaring ceilings, tasteful decor, incredible architecture and neighborhood, as well as amazing location make "the castle" a true find. It is about a block away from Le Formal, an extraordinary restaurant, and within walking distance of many scores of delightful cafes and restaurants. Aix is a gorgeous town, and you'll be right in the heart of everything. Enter "your castle" from huge wooden double doors on the street level and then climb 69 beautiful stone steps up, up, up through history into your enchanted home for the week. It is lovely, especially if you crave great architecture and beauty during your holiday. Even the back window views are filled with interesting vistas of tiled rooftops and spires that are beautifully lit up at night. You’ll never forget you are in Provence. The two main bedrooms have lots of privacy and pocket doors slide out to turn them into suites. Nice touch. I'd recommend this apartment for two couples and possibly children, but not three couples since the upper floor bedrooms are smaller and seem more like dormitory rooms than part of the beloved castle. Lots of nice glasses and dishware in the kitchen. Housekeeping and maintenance are adequate, but certainly not 5-star worthy. However, history, architecture, elegance, and location win all the stars - and more - with ease. I’d re-book in a flash to be in my grand castle in Aix again. Go ahead, book it.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

I enjoyed my month-long stay at the Albertas apartment immensely. It is in a perfect location in Aix's Old City, close to markets, stores and transportation links. I especially appreciated how historic the building was, and I was delighted that the apartment was exactly as pictured on the website, with a lovely and comfortable decor, and the best air-conditioning I have ever experienced (a great relief during a hot, hot summer). I would strongly recommend the apartment to others.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 4/4

My family stayed in this beautiful, authentic french apartment for a vacation in Provence. It was in the heart of the historic district with a view of one of the most beautiful public fountains in Aix. The furnishings were beautiful with every creature comfort one could ask for. Restaurants and sights abound.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

Stayed with my family (3 adults, 2 small children) in this apartment for three weeks in June. Ideal rental in every way. Perfect layout for parents with children with the second bedroom on the main floor and third and fourth bedroom on second floor. Vaulted ceilings and oversized windows make the place light and airy. Top floor location (no elevator!) provides some insulation from street noise, which otherwise can be a problem sometimes in the master bedroom. Well-appointed apartment with comfortable furnishings and modest but well-equipped kitchen. Lovely internal courtyard in complex. Our children loved the turtles there. Ideal location for exploring Aix -- center of town with easy access to public transportation. Property manager friendly, responsive, charming, and efficient. Expensive but we would stay here again without hesitation.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car.

We were 3 Americans visiting in Aix. This apartment, as beautiful as the photos imply, could not have been lovelier or more perfectly located, both for walking in the city and for taking daily tours in Provence. The apartment was beautifully furnished and although it does say 4 bedrooms, 2 are on another floor that has no toilet or bathroom facilities. Children would probably be OK there. Although it is stated to be on the 2nd floor, it is equivilent to a fourth floor, and unless you are in pretty good shape, not too easy to climb to. These are the only reasons I would not give it 5 stars. Otherwise, it is perfect in every other way. Perfect kitchen; lovely bathrooms, charming bedrooms, beautiful living/dining room, sensational view out window onto lovely courtyard and fountain. Once you have climbed the stairs, it is perfect.Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car, girls getaway.
