This original lakefront log cabin was built in 1930 as a fishing camp. It has a private dock and a spectacular view of Crooked Lake. This lake is a beautiful 110 acre all sports lake adjacent to the Waterloo Recreation Area. The recreation area encompasses 20,000 acres, has 47 miles of hiking trails, fishing lakes, nature and equestrian trails.
The cabin is approximately 950 sq. ft., with 2 bedrooms and 1 bath. It still maintains the rustic ambiance but has been updated with modern conveniences. The front bedroom has a full bed and there are 2 built in log twin beds. Ideal as a private retreat for a couple or 4 people, but is capable of sleeping 6. The log sofa in the living room can be converted to a full size futon bed.
The lake has a public boat launch and you may bring your own boat. We provide a paddle boat and a canoe for your use.

A week at the cottage on Crooked Lake

I enjoyed a very relaxing stay at this cottage on Crooked Lake in late October. The place has a great rustic look but has all the modern ammenities you would expect. I think the photos on this site do it justice, but it is even more attractive once you arrive. Everything was very clean and well organized. The owners are very friendly and stopped by to make sure that everything was to my liking. Due to the time of year I was there, overnight lows were in the low 40's. Several portable electric heaters were provided, and there's also a large, permanent electric heater built in to a wall of the main room. It was easy to keep the bedrooms, bathroom, and main room warm enough. Of course a fire was burning in the fireplace most of the time I was in the cottage. (Seasoned firewood was provided and burned very readily.) I enjoyed walking on several of the trails in the adjoining Waterloo Recreation Area, and rode a bike trail there as well. It was a bit cold for much time on the water, but I did enjoy travelling around the perimeter of Crooked Lake in a kayak one sunny afternoon. (Two kayaks, a canoe, and two paddlewheel boats are provided.) While in the kayak, I was able to observe a group of Sandhill Cranes from perhaps 15ft away; they are majestic birds! Neighboring Chelsea is only about five miles away and features some nice dining and shopping. If you like drama, try to make it to a performance a the Purple Rose Theater Theatre Company. The acting is excellent and the venue is a small "theatre in the round" style theatre with a capacity of 168. This provides an intimate setting, which is great for both the actors and the audience. The balance of my time was spent simply reading by the fire or enjoying the falling leaves, crisp Fall breeze, and watching birds on the lake. The cottage provided a perfect place to unwind and put everything behind me for a while. This time of year, the sunrise illuminates the trees along the Northwest edge of the lake. The combination of the autumn leaves and the early orange light results in a dramatic scene which greets you first thing in the morning. It's beautiful show that sets the tone of the day to come.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children.

Coming to this original log cabin on the lake made us feel like we were in northern Michigan. We were actually only 45 minutes from home! The lake was beautiful with great fishing. We brought our own boat since there was a dock in front of the cabin. The owners provided us with a paddle boat, canoe and kayaks’. With fishing license’s in hand, we were all set to go! When we arrived one of the owners greeted us at the door to show us around. Questions were answered and we were given area information in case we wanted to go out to dinner, etc. We wanted only to be in a peaceful setting to clear our minds from our stressful everyday lives and to spend time together. We did not go any where. It was perfect! The owners allowed us to bring our pet which was a big plus. Key Key is part of our family and we don’t like to leave her. Every thing was exactly as stated on VRBO only better. The cabin was spotless and beautifully furnished keeping to the log cabin theme. The owners had fresh flowers on the table that they had grown themselves and a beautiful bag filled with snacks and all of the ingredients for S’mores for our campfire. Did I mention the great fire pit and benches on the lake? There were even treats for our pet! These owners go above and beyond what is expected for a vacation rental and make you feel very welcome. We would highly recommend this cabin to our friends and family. We loved it so much that we have already booked another week for next summer.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, pet owners, girls getaway.

What a fabulous place to spend three enchanting days! To have our pups welcomed made this mini vacation extra special! The cabin is spotless, very comfortable, and well maintained. We especially enjoyed the special gift bag with thoughtful treats for both human and canine guests. We can't wait to plan our next visit!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, pet owners, girls getaway.

This cabin is nothing short of amazing. We spent a few days there in July and absolutely loved it. Our son still talks about "our" Chelsea cabin (I wish!) and I miss the peaceful, fun days our family spent there. The place is cozy, very clean and neat and entirely true to the beautiful pictures. It is right on the lake and there is a serenity feeling to it. We went fishing, kayaking, both our son and dog loved swimming, we had bonfires, BBQ, lots of reading. The cabin has a rustic feel, with all the amenities you need and an up-north feel without the drive. The owners are lovely people, very sweet and helpful. This cabin is so great, our only concern is that it will be always booked! We will definitely be back. BTW, the local grocery store in Chelsea, Polly's Country Market has the best croissants :-)Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, pet owners, girls getaway.

I have used VRBO several times now and am continually impressed. This particular property was nothing short of amazing! First of all, the description and pictures are spot on. It is SO well kept, so well cared for and the owners are absolutely lovely people. It is a wonderful cottage directly on the lake with an adorable paddle boat and canoes. The inside is so beautiful and true to character. Very clean, charming and has everything you could think of; obviously, we very much enjoyed ourselves and are definitely coming back. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful place!!!!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with young children, pet owners, girls getaway.

Sunsets over a private pristine lake. Board games under a giant oak. Kids jumping off the doc. Bond fires under the stars. What else can you ask for in a vacation?? I booked Crooked Lake Cabin based on the beautiful photos and description without any knowledge of the area. I was looking for someplace to reconnect with my family, apart from all the disruptions....TVs, iPhone, Email, all that jazz..... I found it and so much more here! My family and I spent 4 fun-filled days playing games, swimming, cooking out....talking. When was the last time you sat outside, under the moon-lit sky, and told stories to your kids for that night's entertainment? Really, when?? It was one of the more memorable vacations we have EVER had - no joke! The cabin, although approaching a century old, was immaculately kept and really quite charming. We felt at peace throughout our stay. The owners, who live nearby, were as hospitable as can possibly be! The cabin opens to the wide portion of the lake, which is private and picturesque. We felt at times like we owned the waters! Overall, Crooked Lake Log Cabin is nothing short of spectacular. If you're looking to spend a memorable vacation with your family or friends, this is the place. It has character, heart and soul. Thanks for the memories. Cheers!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with young children, pet owners.

My family and I stayed at the Crooked Lake Log Cabin for a few days of family get-away and it was everything we expected. The owners were very nice, accommodating, and prepared. The cabin was beautiful with the lake a main attraction. There were local activities to explore with games and activities at the cabin if needed. Even our dog had a great time. We couldn't have asked for more and hope to return again in the fall.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, families with young children, pet owners, girls getaway.

This lakefront log cabin is absolutely adorable. It is rustic and charming, yet has all of the amenities and comforts of home: fully functional kitchen, hot shower, stone fireplace. From the built-in log beds (comfortable!) to the gorgeous original woodwork, every detail makes you feel like you've stepped back in time. The setting is extremely private, quiet, and peaceful. It feels very much like you're in northern Michigan -- without the long drive. Have coffee on the patio and enjoy the spectacular view!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children, pet owners, girls getaway.
