Hayward cabin description
This beautifully restored 1932 schoolhouse has been turned into a lakehome and is available for a unique vacation experience.
As you walk up the steps past the picture of Abe Lincoln into the great room, you'll feel like you have stepped back in time. It's not difficult to imagine a room full of youngsters trying hard to concentrate on their lessons while many distractions await them outside! The ceilings are tall with 6 vintage light fixtures. Ivy covers much of the window facing east. Toward the lake, you'll see the old school bell, still located where it was 80 years ago. The drinking fountain is mounted by the back door.
You'll not find a flat screen tv, huge master suite or spa here. But modern amenities such as central air, a well-appointed kitchen and new deck offer comfort while retaining the simple character of this home.
The main bedroom, which was formerly the school's kitchen, has a queen size bed and a walk-in closet. The former library contains a full size bed. A sleeping loft also houses a full size bed.
One and a half baths (girls and boys, of course) complete the main floor. They're quite simple, but functional. In the unfinished basement (gymnasium) we keep a ping pong table and organ that we inherited from the previous owner.
The cabin comes with 2 single-person kayaks and a small assortment of floaties etc. A pontoon is available to rent.
Our property, which is located on majestic Whitefish Lake, faces south gently sloping toward Schoolhouse Bay. Walleye, northern, bass, crappies and musky can be found in this clear, deep lake. The Beechmoor Restaurant is a quick trip accross the lake. Andy and Darlene serve up a terrific menu, including their version of Wisconsin's famous Friday night fish fry.
Hayward is about 15 minutes from the cabin, and offers a wide variety of shops, restaurants and outdoor activities. It's also home to the American Birkebeiner, the biggest cross country ski event in North America. It attracts participants from all over the world.

Charming and Relaxing schoolhouse on Whitefish Lake
Charming and Relaxing schoolhouse on Whitefish Lake
The schoolhouse is a great way to escape into the Northwoods. This historic building offers a great room with spacious kitchen that allowed for room to relax and enjoy meals together or just spread out to read and relax. The ivy covered windows and the nicely decorated rooms put you in a relaxed vacation mindset. The two bedrooms and loft with full-size bed offer plenty of space and the1.5 baths is a nice bonus. There is even more room down in the basement/gymnasium for kids to run around and play ping pong --- even get away from the parents. The deck allows you a chance to sit out and watch over the serene "Schoolhouse Bay" on Whitefish. It offered a great view and was very quiet. We got to see some Bald Eagles and fish jumping in the bay. With only 3 houses on the quaint bay it is a nice secluded and private area. No internet and a TV for DVD viewing (only) and you know what ..... it was more than okay. It wasn't missed by the dad's, the teenagers, or the young kids that usually never get away from this technology. I'd recommned this to anyone looking for some R&R on a beatiful lake in the Hayward area. The owners were a joy to work with and had everything set up for us.
