The apartment was centrally located just off george street. If we went onto the street outside the apartment we could see the castle. The shops on princess street are two minutes away and plenty of cosy pubs and restaurants on rose street again very near. The apartment itself was huge, three bedrooms and three bathrooms (a real find). It was spotless and spacious. There were board games and childrens games in the cupboards and information on the local area was provided in the info folder. A nice touch was the owners provided a welcome pack including all your essentials and a bottle of chilled wine. Communication with the owners prior and after our stay was great and they were very friendly. They were able to accommodate our late departure time due to travel times and this was very much appreciated. Security deposit was returned promptly in full. Clear directions were provided prior to our stay. Really enjoyed our stay and we would not hesitate to return.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Our family party of five adults spent three nights in Pat's beautiful apartment for Hogmanay 2012/13. It was a perfect location for the festivities - close enough to walk to so that the oldies could get home easily if it was too wet or cold (which it wasn't) but absolutely quiet as well. The best thing though was how well equipped it was. Many apartments/houses we have stayed in have a lovely kitchen in the photos but not a saucepan to be found. On New Year's Eve before the revelry began, we hosted a roast dinner for the five of us plus two friends who were staying around the corner and had every utensil/cooking dish we desired! Similarly the bedrooms all had hairdryers (and one even a straightener) and I noticed lots of children's toys/extras in the main bedroom storage room as well. The apartment was spotlessly clean, supplied with a welcome pack as others have mentioned and we really appreciated the bottle of wine after walking from the station in the hail! Pat very kindly allowed us a late check out as our flight was not until the evening and this was a great help as it allowed a bit more shopping time in George street around the corner. Eventually we caught the airport shuttle which was about 7 minutes walk from the apartment . Thank you so much Pat for a wonderful (but too short) stay in your lovely apartment, we very much hope to be back for a longer stay one day.Owner response: I was not fortunate enough to meet these guests as I was on holiday but my son & his wife said they were just the nicest people ever and we would be more than happy to welcome them back anytime!

I stayed here with friends for 1 night in Dec for our Xmas night out. The apartment is lovely, really spacious and felt very homely. Also cleaned to a high standard. It was great to have 3 bedrooms, with 2 ensuites and a 3rd bathroom. The kitchen is fully equipped and could not have asked for anymore. It was a bonus to have a Welcome Pack included, and the complimentary bottle of wine ! It was great to have things like hairdryer etc included (essential for all girls !). The location was great too, although in the centre of town close to bars/restaurants there was very little noise. Pat was very accomodating too, as bedrooms could be made up of single and/or king size beds. Also, as there was no one in the Apartment straight after us, Pat allowed us to stay on till 4pm the next day at no extra cost.Owner response: Delighted to receive this wonderful review, it is so nice when guests take the time to write one, makes all our hard work worth it - thank you!

49a North Castle Street was a fantastic base for our stay in Edinburgh during the festival. The apartment was large, clean and the best equipped place we have ever stayed! The en-suite bathrooms a god-send with teenage girls and students in our party! The central location made the holiday so much more enjoyable - able to nip back for a cup of tea when needed! There was an abundance of cafes and restaurants to suit every taste-bud. We'd planned to cook during the week but the local eateries were too tempting. We would highly recommend this property to all our friends and family.Owner response: Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to write this review. Lovely families like yours are always welcome at number 49a - thank you for being such great guests!

A fantastic apartment in an excellent location, we couldn't have asked for more. We had 6 adults staying and all of us loved it. It is clean, comfortable, spacious and ideally placed for exploring Edinburgh. Lots of restaurants close by to suit every pocket and taste. The welcome pack was very much appreciated too. I would definitely recommend this apartment to anyone.Owner response: We work hard to make the apartment a 'home from home' and comments like these make it so worthwhile - thank you so much - we would be delighted to welcome you back anytime!

Extremely spacious apartment, very central for everything Edinburgh has to offer and a minute from the bus stops to go further afield (e.g. to see the pandas at Edinburgh zoo - a must in our opinion) and from the airport bus drop off. The owners were very welcoming and helpful. The apartment was very clean, maintained to a high standard and very well equipped. There are a huge number of restaurants within a few minutes walk, so although everything you need for a self-catering break is available, it is tempting to eat out. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay in Edinburgh.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

As you can gather from all the previous comments, this is the place to rent if traveling to Edinburgh! I cannot recommend this apartment highly enough - it has everything you need and much, much more - as you probably already gathered from all the positiv remarks. Pat is taking very good care that everything is perfect and makes it exceptionally easy to feel welcome and at home, so that you are on holiday from the very first minute. The only tough experience is the departure once the holidays are over. I also would like to mention that not only is the kitchen equipped with everything imaginable, but Pat also provides a welcome package well beyond the ordinary "cup of tea"! We will definitely be back when traveling to Edinburgh!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This superb apartment provided five star accmmodation & luxury for the birthday celebration weekend we had planned. The location couldn't have been better suited to our needs for exploring the city of Edinburgh by day & evening. Pat was a wonderful host, answering our questions about the apartment prompty & it was wonderful to arrive to a 'welcome' pack , with the provisions needed for that well deserved cup of tea! The apartment was immaculate & contained plenty of useful information. We plan to return in the near future & would highly recommend it. Thank you Pat !Owner response: Thank you so much for taking the time to write this lovely review - we would love to welcome you back to 49a anytime!

The outside of this apartment doesn’t do it justice. Each room was a revelation. All the bedrooms and bathrooms are a good size and the apartment was spotless. Castle street is in an ideal spot – only 10 minutes walk from Waverley station and although the main streets were just around the corner it was in a quiet location. The Castle , Botanical gardens and Holyrood are all within walking distance. We had an endless choice of places to eat but my favourite was Henderson’s , just a few streets away. We didn’t cook but Castle street has a fully equipped kitchen and the supermarket was a 5 min walk away. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this apartment if you after a city centre rentalRecommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you very much for taking the time and effort to write this lovely review - we are delighted you enjoyed your stay and we would be delighted to welcome you back sometime in the future to North Castle Street and Auld Reekie!

This apartment was perfect for our party of 5: two 60+ and three in their 20's. Close enough to walk to the castle and Royal Mile, and shops, restaurants and pubs within a 1 block radius. The apartment was beautifully done, lots of room, and very clean. Thank you Pat for being so accommodating when we showed up early the day of our arrival! This was a wonderful way to end our visit to Scotland!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

My family and i stayed at the apartment during the christmas period and had a fantastic time, a heart beat away from all the action at and around Princes street!! No need for a car which is a bonus. There was everything you could ever need in the apartment a home from home and very clean, would recommend to family and friends more than enough space for adults and children and the owners were so friendly. We shall return.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We enjoy hearing that our guests enjoyed our apartment and our beautiful City.

what a pleasure it was to stay at 49a north castle street. immaculately clean, comfortable, contemporary, ideally situated, and much more!! our party of 6 adults couldn't have been happier, very comfortable beds, 3 fabulous bathrooms, incredibly well equipped kitchen and spacious lounge, the owners, Pat and Alex made sure we had all the information needed for the area to make the most of our 3 day stay, our only regret was not being able to stay longer, but hopefully we will one day return. we can-not recommend this property highly enough, thank you Pat and Alex for your thoughtfulness,Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Just returned from a week trip to Edinburgh. This apartment is in the perfect location. Just blocks from all the major attractions and 15 minutes from the castle. The only additions I would recommend are a permanent land line phone to reach folks back at the apartment if needed and full time wifi. The air card limits you to one person on line at a time. If you looking for a few great places we all enjoyed Gourmet Grub on Rose Street and the Queens Arms a block over. Another great place up on the Royal Mile was Gordan's Trattoria. Very good food. All in all a fantastic week. We were all calling the place home. If I return to Edinburgh this is the place I will be wanting to stay. Thanks Pat! Owner response: We work hard to ensure our guests enjoy their stay at North Castle Street and like to make it a 'home from home' -receiving great reviews makes it all worthwhile! Our part is to keep the apartment to a very high standard, its location does the rest!
