Colonia Pegaso cottage description
THE CASITA is a small romantic home which glows with Mexican warmth and color and convenient modern living.
Your location is just outside the magnificent 500 acre botanical garden featuring amazing plants, birds and the favorite walking paths in San Miguel.
The historic center of San Miguel is world renown as an international art and cultural center with near perfect year round weather.
Your neighborhood would be about 6 blocks at the top of San Miguel in a quieter and more peaceful residential area with cleaner air and plenty of parking yet only a ½ mile from the mall, movies, banks and shopping. You are walking distance to Tuesday’s open market with its abundant and varied fresh fruits and vegetables, fish and poultry, second-hand everything, Mexican crafts, and all kinds of people and local foods.
Taxis and buses to town and elsewhere are plentiful and inexpensive. Walking to town is downhill, easy and beautiful. Most prefer to bus or taxi back up the hill.
The casita sleeps two in a king-sized bed which can convert to two singles. The closet is a huge walk in. The bathroom is adjoining with a shower big enough for two and a soaking tub made of handmade tiles. There is an additional queen sized futon in a separate alcove. OK for weekend guests, but not laid out well for more than two full time residents.
The living room is bright all day with a glass cupola and cozy all evening with three fireplaces. The kitchen is small and delightful and completely set up for cooking at home. It opens onto a large patio for easy outside dining. There is an inside dining nook also. The patio overlooks the garden and has a comfortable sitting area with a usually active hummingbird feeder cozily nestled among the plants. There is a washing machine and inside parking.
The garden was designed by one of the botanical garden’s designers. It features local cactus and succulents mixed with bamboo and flowering plants to require a minimum of our precious desert water. It is tended by our gardener Alejandro, who we have known since he was a child. He speaks English and can be quite helpful and very knowledgeable. Outside the casita veranda is a coy pond with re circulating filtered water over a small waterfall. The garden meanders through the property and then opens onto a chili bean shaped in-ground tiled pool featuring handmade tile accents and “turtle cove“.
All utilities are provided including phone, wireless internet and cable.
This is a smoke free property and we ask all guests to respect and abide by our preference on that.

Year Purchased: 1997
About the owner: We are Artists. We have been our entire lives .We met in art school and married 53 years ago. We have two grown children, both of them also live in San Miguel and we have a Mexical granddaughter. Our New York studio burned down in 1987 Feb 15th at noon. Without a functional studio, & short of money we ran off to Mexico to escape the New York winter. San Miguel de Allende was love at first sight . We have been coming down since 1997...and havn't looked back. Half the year we live and work in New York and then go to this, our home in Mexico. It has been a true adventure and feel that we have been blessed.
Why the Owner Chose Colonia Pegaso:
It took a long time for us to find this property. First we bought a house in Colonial San Antonio. It was nice but very small for TWO artists. Just finding our place near the Botanical Garden was an adventure in itself . We will explain when we meet you. The Casita that we now rent was where we first lived while the 'Casa Grande' was being built. We have many Mexico adventures to tell you.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
We selected this location because it was just outside the heat and fumes in the center of town . It is easy walking distance to modern Stores , Theaters, and 'Tuesday Market'. We can park our car on the street just outside our door and feel it is quite safe. With our walled garden and beautiful house and swimming pool its a very comfortable place to retire. (when were ready) It is an easy 'downhill' walk to town or we can take a 50 peso taxi to centro . There is also local busses three blocks away .All sorts of interesting activities go on and we try to attend many of them. The public library is also one of the central meeting places in town. San Miguel de Allende,This is the place to be. Be warned... when you visit here you will always want to come back.
