How refreshing to open the door and see a setting exactly as depicted in photos we reviewed before booking our stay. Lynne and Jim's Casita lives up to all the reviews we read, it fully deserves the 5 star rating given to it by the previous reviewers. Thanks Lynne and Jim for providing us a place to feel at home away from home. Looking forward to our next stay in San Diego!

Owner response: Bob & Karen, thank you so much for highlighting the Casita photos with our reviews. Our goal is to provide our guests a "what you see is what you get" experience. We want our guests to be comfortable while enjoying their visit to San Diego for whatever reason. We hope to make some subtle furnishing improvements that will require new photos and a video update in the near future. We truly hope to see you again.
My husband and I stayed at the casita for three nights and wish we were able to stay there for much longer. Jim/Lynne are terrific hosts! And the casita was so totally adorable, decorated to perfection, and had everything we could possibly need. It was within a very short walking distance to lots of fun, eclectic restaurants. The neighborhood seemed very safe to walk in at night. In addition, it's within a very short drive to many key places in San Diego such as the zoo, Balboa Park, Little Italy, downtown, Old Town, Trader Joe's, etc.

Had a wonderful time at the darling and well-appointed San Diego casita; Jim and Lynn are wonderful hosts! I highly recommend this VRBO to couples who are looking for a nice getaway. The unit was very clean and well-stocked. The decor was a perfect balance of aesthetic design and functional practicality. The location is ideal; quiet neighborhood but walking distance to interesting places. Another bonus is parking which is right next to the front door. I honestly cannot think of a single area where improvements can be made.

We found the casita to be very well appointed and supplied. The location was particularly convenient for us due to the proximity to family. We heartily recommend it.

It was perfect for the two of us and what we were looking for, the short time we was there. It was well kept and up to date as far as amenities go. We would go there again, in an Arizona minute.

Exceeded our expectaions!
Exceeded our expectaions!
This was our first VRBO experience, we normally stay in hotels. The casita looked even better than pictured and we were "wowed" when we walked in. The place was immaculate with all high end furnishings and linens. The bathroom is small as stated in previous reviews, but the shower was a decent size and there was more than adequate space for toiletries. The parking spot was great if you have a car, unloading the car after a day at the beach was a breeze! The location is one of the best we have ever stayed at in San Diego, it had great access to the freeways and is minutes from downtown, Sea World, Coronado, and Balboa Park. Although there are not onsite laundry facilities, there is a laundry mat a couple blocks away that has "fluff and fold" services, you can just drop off your laundry and for $1 per pound ($20 minimum) a very sweet lady will do your laundry for you. The owners were great, they left us cookies and checked on us mid-week to make sure all was well. My husband, 7 yo daughter and I stayed for 7 days. I would strongly recommend this location for a small family and would stay again.

Owner response: Thank you for your awesome review of the Casita - you captured everything that we hope to portray to potential guests, and we are thrilled to have been your first VRBO experience. Hopefully you will use VRBO again in your future travels wherever you go. Yes, Helen at the laundromat is a very sweet lady. We sure hope we see you again!

We were celebrating our 41st anniversary in San Diego. The casita exceeded our expectations. It was extremely clean, inviting and very comfortable. Close to everything we wanted to do. It was refreshing to be able to walk to the University Heights business district. We especially enjoyed lunch on the patio at Monica's. The soup and salad was delicious. Jim and Lynn are very gracious and accomodating. Casita Del Sol Manner will always be our first choice when visiting San Diego.

This Casita is just as it looks in the pictures. Beautifully done and very comfortable. I really liked the creative tiling, and the kitchen is so well equipped, you could cook a gourmet meal in there with all the stainless steel pots and pans! But then why would you when there are so many great restaurants close by. The location is central to everything in beautiful San Diego. It was a pleasure meeting the owners Jim an Lynne as well as their dear dog Peanut. The Casita is spotlessly clean, peaceful and quiet, with a very nice garden area. Oh and the TV is the best I've ever seen in a rental place! I highly recommend this lovely unique Casita.

Awww, what a treat to walk through the front door and smile! Every detail of this charming Casita exudes warmth and an invitation to kick back, decompress and enjoy. Lynn and Jim are amazing hosts. From questions about anything and everything to laughing around their bar-be-que, we quickly felt right at home. (And Peanut, their dog, popped in for visits which I loved!) The Casita was immaculate and well equipped for a month long stay. It was wonderful to have a full kitchen, as we ate in most of the time. The location was central for walking and exploring, yet exceptionally quiet. We enjoyed Balboa Park, Beaches, and shopping which were all within a 15 minute drive. This sweet spot is a reflection of the owners and they obviously love what they have to share...you wont' be disappointed!!

San Diego Gem

My wife and I (in our 60's) thoroughly enjoyed our one week visit in this wonderful Casita. We have visited San Diego and North County many times (all at VRBO's) and this visit was unquestionably one of the best as it exceeded all of our high expectations. The Casita listing and photos are accurate in every respect and the property is secure, charming, spotless, fully equipped and in close proximity to everything we needed to enhance our "family visit" vacation. Coffee shops and grocery stores are within walking distance, some 2 or 3 blocks down the street. Balboa park is within a 30 minute easy walk. Restaurants are also in close proximity and our favorite, Farm House Café Restaurant, is within easy walking distance; comparing most favorably to other "drive-to" restaurants down town and in La Jolle. The owners (Lynne and Jim) were always available to answer any questions and made our visit extremely pleasant and inviting as a "home away from home". Their personal attention, friendship and professionalism was highly appreciated by us. We highly recommend this property to anyone wishing to explore San Diego and the surrounding area as it is in close proximity to all major highways. The micro University Heights area itself is a unique and vibrant community which is highly desirable and both easy interesting to explore on foot. We plan to return to the Casita on our next family visit to San Diego.

Year Purchased: 1983
About the owner: We currently live in the front house of the property and have been in our home since 1982. We found this lovely property on the way to a Charger game and couldn't resist the custom Spanish style of this 1920's era two on one. We started out renting and we were fortunate to have the opportunity to purchase the property. We were even more fortunate to be married in the back yard; all six kids and one happy St. Bernard. We both grew up elsewhere in California, but we met in San Diego and have lived in our home for 30+ years and can not imagine leaving. The back house (casita) was a rental when we bought and was kept as a rental for most of our time here. Recently, we remodeled and upgraded the cottage into the casita.
Why the Owner Chose University Heights:
We bought here because our work was nearby and schools for our children were close. We are now retired and our children have left the roost. Our home is situated right in the middle of everything that is inviting in San Diego. Neighborhood restaurants and coffee houses are within four blocks. We are very close to high-end shopping malls, the Gaslamp District downtown, Balboa Park, the Zoo, beaches, ball parks, and just 1+ hour from the beautiful and very quaint historic mountain town of Julian.
The Unique Benefits at this Studio:
The casita is located in a quiet neighborhood that is walking friendly and very close to freeway access in all directions as well as public transportation. Popular Points of Interest (POI) and their distances from the Casita can be viewed on our map.
