We really enjoyed our stay in Arcadia. The home was the perfect size. Plenty of beds and lots of living space to hang out in made even the rainy day fun. With 8 kids having 3 bathrooms was a huge bonus. The house was very clean and nicely taken care of. The washing machine and dryer worked well. The highlight of course was the beach at Arcadia. It isn't big, but it was very clean and quiet. We were often the only people there. The beach is about five blocks, an easy walk, from the house. Our children rode their bikes there every day. There is a gas station and an icecream place in town. Arcadia is also centrally located to many other towns and fun things to do, making it easy to get around. This is definitely a home we would rent again.

Owner response: So glad the house worked for you and that you had a nice stay. Arcadia is quite a secret gem of the area!
My husband and I decided last minute to head to his home state of Michigan for a long Labor Day Weekend. All the boarding kennels at home were full so we needed to take our dog, Dooley, a 2-year-old Irish Water Spaniel who had never been swimming. The owners of this wonderful Arcadia house welcomed us and our dog. It was as clean as a pin and completely renovated and well equipped for a family going to the beach every day. The only things that were missing were our adult children and our grandchildren because there would have been ample space for them as well Also missing were mosquitos anywhere around Arcadia, which the locals attribute to something different about their prevailing winds off of Lake Michigan. We enjoyed a hike through dense woods of the C.S. Mott Nature Preserve (encountered just one small mosquito there ) to the Arcadia Dunes "Old Baldy" sand dune Lake Michigan overlook which was breathtakingly glorious and the highlight of our trip! Arcadia is a sweet, quiet little town with just the basics and no commercialism to distract from its serenety and the beauty of Lake Michigan. Dooley showed us that he already knew how to swim and we enjoyed a truly delightful getaway. Hope to return to Arcadia again with more family members. We went out to dinner only once by driving north to the Bayview Grille in Frankfort and coudn't have asked for a finer meal.

Year Purchased: 2001
About the owner: John, Amy, Norm, and Sue purchased this historic home with the desire to restore a bit of history. It was taken down to its studs and rebuilt using as much of the existing wood and style as possible. The result is a home with beautiful hardwood floors, wide trim, decorative windows all with modern conveniences. During construction we found in the walls a very old shoe and a few old books.
Why the Owner Chose Arcadia:
Norm and Sue have been coming to Arcadia since they were each kids. They met here and married. They had 4 children, one of them Amy. Amy met John in Arcadia whose family also vacationed here for generations. In fact, John's Great Uncle chaperoned Norm's parents' first date right in Arcadia. John and Amy live in Arcadia year round, Norm and Sue plan to retire to Arcadia.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
John's vision of this home inspired us all to bring back its original beauty. John tirelessly removed flooring, wallboard, and drop ceilings to uncover its historic wonder while Norm and Sue stripped and stained the original wood trim. From the high ceilings to the hardwood floors, this home is a testament to old fashioned craftmanship.
