VRBO Bear stayed here: We found this property to be beary special
Road noise will not be an issue in this unit! Check out what recent guests have said in the "Reviews" section about our new double-paned SOUNDPROOF inner window in the bedroom. It slides opens for breezes, and closes tightly for a quiet night's sleep. The only sounds you'll hear are the ocean waves from the lanai!
Congratulations! You’re reading this because you’ve decided to visit Kauai, and turn your Hawaiian dreams into lifelong memories. You may be honeymooning, celebrating a milestone, or just vacationing. You want to experience island-style comfort and the graceful Aloha spirit, and avoid the busy mega-resort areas, crowded beaches and crammed parking lots.
Good news! You’ve found what you’re seeking right here at Wailua Bay View, on the east side of Kauai. This quiet complex is only 10 minutes from the Lihue airport, in Kapaa (Ka-pa'-ah). Forbes magazine recently named Kapaa one of the 15 prettiest towns in the nation. You’re perfectly located for easy day trips over the entire island.
Our direct oceanfront condo (#214), has one bedroom (Cal-King bed), totally renovated bathroom, full kitchen, living/dining room (with sofa bed), and your own full size washer/dryer. Your very private lanai is a stone’s throw to the crashing waves. It’s 750 sq. feet of paradise, with spectacular sunrises, panoramic views, relaxing sounds, and restful sleeps. The only thing missing is YOU! Remember to plan ahead, our calendar stays pretty full.
Unlike some listings here on VRBO, this is an owner operated and managed condo. As owners, we take your calls and answer your emails personally. We visit our condo 2 or 3 times a year to inspect and refurbish it, and spare no expense to keep everything in tip-top shape, including our recent complete bathroom renovation. (See the pictures). Our own efforts, along with an excellent housekeeping staff, and our on-island rep has proven to be the right combination for success. We spent many months and several trips to Hawaii to find our perfect vacation home, in an ideal location, and we absolutely love it! But enough of what we think, scroll down to the reviews. At last count, we had 52 reviews in 3 years of ownership! These reviews are submitted directly by guests to our listing. Also, look for reviews on other popular travel sites, there are several for our condo, Wailua Bay View #214.
There’s always plenty of free parking, free wireless high speed internet, 2 flat screen TV’s with cable, and a Blu-Ray player. There's a bedroom A/C, with ceiling and floor fans throughout. You’ll find coolers, beach towels, beach chairs, and umbrella. Peruse our many guide books, and the Guest Binder with recommendations for restaurants, tours, and boat trips we’ve personally experienced. We list the local Farmer’s Markets, including one a 5 minute walk away, at the Coconut Marketplace. You can walk to many restaurants, bakeries, shops, kayak and bike rentals places, and some great beaches. The spectacular, newly completed Kauai Bike/Walking Path is right out front.
Come see Kauai and explore an island paradise. You’ll hike, play golf, snorkel, sunbathe and shop, but the irresistible pull of our lanai, and the view of those mesmerizing waves, will call you back…you won’t want to leave! Feel the Aloha spirit yet? Enjoy your Hawaiian holiday!
Just added: a totally SOUNDPROOF inner window, opens for breezes but closes for quiet rest!

Restaurants, bakeries, shops, and the Coconut Marketplace are all within walking distance. You're steps away from the half-mile long Wailua Beach, which encompasses Wailua Bay and Wailua River State Park. There's a long, paved beach walk/bike trail right in front of the complex. You can walk along the beach to the north, to a keiki (children's) pool, and a sacred heiau (ancient Hawaiian temple). Only 5 minutes away from Lydgate Park, with protected snorkeling ponds and a fantastic playground. Wailua Bay View is all about the 'bay view'! And although you can swim in Wailua Bay, it is known for swells and riptides. Not for novices! That's why the local surfers and bodyboarders love it, and they are fun to watch!...moreless
New Year’s in Kauai is just what the Bear family ordered for our winter getaway! This bear couple was spoiled on their 20th Anniversary with this perfectly located Condo in Wailua, on the Coconut Coast. It was the perfect location for us to do everything we wanted in Kauai.
The condo is situated at the end of the complex – away from street noise – and close to the fabulous beach and ocean view. Right when we arrived, we headed straight to the balcony to take in the sounds and view that is Kauai. The condo was well stocked with everything we needed for the beach as well as a clean and organized kitchen. And, they had air conditioning in the bedroom if it was too hot. But we didn’t need it. There were plenty of windows to open to catch the ocean breezes!
The location of our condo was perfect. We had easy access to multiple grocery stores and restaurants. But, we were far enough from town that we didn’t feel like we couldn’t get away from everything. The owners were also very attentive and surprised us with some snacks, coffee and a bottle of wine waiting for our arrival!
It seems to me that the owners really care about their home! They recently remodeled their bathroom into a mini oasis! The large shower head and openness of the space was very relaxing. They provided us plenty of towels and supplies for our visit.
One of our favorite evenings was walking over to Waialua Bay (about a 2 minute walk) with our beach chairs in hand, a tasty beverage, sitting close to the water and watching the stars. It was dark and peaceful in the evening. We brought a flashlight with us to find our way. After sitting and chatting for a while, we decided to look at what was around us with our flash lights. To our surprise, there were about 10 tiny crabs frozen by our light – staring at us. Then they quickly zipped back into the water or into their homes in the sand. It was a magical evening for all of us.
I really enjoy going on bike rides and it is very easy to go biking in Kauai. There was a bike path (called the Ke Ala Hele Makalae 7 mile trail) that starts directly across from our condo – which becomes a dedicated path in Kapa’a after 2 miles. Papa Bear LOVES to roller skate, so Mama Bear got a Bike (with room for me!) and we took that path at least 3 times on our visit. It goes all the way to Kuna Bay where we got to play in the waves and watch the surfers. I’m glad we brought towels and sunscreen!
During our visit, we got to head to the North Shore and visit the remote area of Wainiha and Tunnels Beach to go snorkeling. The waves were too high at the Tunnels Beach (in the Winter the water is more rough in the North), so we decided to check-out the Kalalau Trail – which is an 11 mile trail that goes all the way over to the Na Pali Coast. Our family loves to snorkel – so we were looking forward to the location. But, the trail was very beautiful and in the lush jungle. The trail was a little much for my little legs to handle, so we only made it a ½ mile in – but I’m glad I went that far and got to enjoy the views!
A few days later we headed to the South end of the Island to snorkel at Poipu Beach. There were a lot more people down there, but the snorkeling was great! We also snorkeled near our condo at Lydgate Park. It was a sheltered swimming area that had a few fish to see. There were lots of families there and I felt much safer and protected from the higher waves!
At the end of every day, it was nice to get back to our comfortable condo. We could cook what we wanted and barbeque by the pool. We made Hawaiian Ribs one night – they took 3 hours to cook – so I got to swim in the beautiful pool and warm my fur in the sun! Another night we picked up some giant Kauai farm raised shrimp on our way back from Waimea in Hanapepe. They were so good! And a bargain too! We cooked those by the pool as well.
It is always sad when it is time to go home. But, we had a relaxing and enjoyable time at this condo in Wailua. The location, amenities and scenery made this one of the most memorable vacations we have had in a long time. I will definitely tell my friends about this magical trip. Thank you for accepting the Bear into your home in Kauai.

About the owner: My husband and I grew up in northern California, and we love the ocean! A 20 year naval career allowed us to frequently live near water on both coasts and 2 countries in Europe. Being blessed with the opportunity to travel extensively, we've stayed in many different types of accommodations, the good and the not so good. We know what works!
We love all of Hawaii, and the island of Kauai is well known for incomparable beauty and rich lush landscapes. It offers diverse adventure, in an uncrowded atmosphere, and hearkens back to the Hawaii of old. We’re happy to share our condo, and spread the Aloha!
Why the Owner Chose Wailua Bay View: Wailua Bay View Unit 214 offers the oceanfront location we love, with privacy and convenience. It allows you to enjoy real Hawaii, with all the comforts of home!
The Unique Benefits at this Condo: Within seconds of walking into this condo, as you approach the sliding doors to the lanai, you will experience the breezes, the roar of the surf, and the wide open ocean in front of you! You'll watch surfers, paddle boarders, and sometimes outrigger canoe races! Watch for the occasional turtle bobbing in the waves, and whales in the winter. At night, you'll be lulled to dreamland by the sound of the crashing waves. The moon rising and reflecting off the water will be stunning! (Try to come during a full moon!) You will feel right at home, and won't want to leave!
