Property description

Pigeon Nest Cottage is ideal for the cost-conscious traveler or couple who appreciates a cozy, homey venue for a getaway. Situated in the Pigeon Point area of Beaufort close to the historic downtown, Pigeon Nest Cottage is a small place with a lot of heart. The cottage is nestled among ancient Live Oak trees draped with Spanish moss, across the road from the Beaufort River. It offers our guests: a kitchenette (microwave oven, sink, refrigerator, coffee pot, toaster, 2 burner portable stove, and dishes); coffee and breakfast bars for your first morning here, a new bathroom with a shower and bath towels (including beach towels, beach chairs, boogie boards and a beach pass for Hunting Island. bedroom/day room with a very comfortable daybed, that can either be used as 2 twins or a king size ; an HD flat-screen TV with cable channels; WIFI access; a bistro table with 2 chairs; in addition, you'll have access to a new front-loading washer and dryer. Outside, the cottage offers a large shaded yard surrounded by a white picket fence (so your small pet can roam), as well as a private screened deck for guests and a separate seating area with a table and chairs for relaxing and enjoying the view. In the spring of 2015, a whimsical flower garden is in a continual process of "being complete.
In February Dianes younger sister Bonnie passed away, and it spurred the idea of a memory garden for her.... a meandering path, graced with ferns, daisies, hydrangeas, misc pretty flowers, as well as a precious pink flowered bush called "little Bonnie" have all been planted with love. You will also find teapots, bunnies and assorted little treasures to make you smile. Please spend time enjoying........ my flowers want to see you...

Location

Established in 1711, historic downtown Beaufort boasts a scenic waterfront park with an array of alfresco dining options--locally caught fresh seafood, steaks, Lowcountry barbeque, burgers and gourmet flatbread pizza. Relax on the riverfront green space with its swinging benches for a great view of the river and the marina. Sit a spell and watch the bridge swing open for the tall masts of sail boats gliding past on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, see porpoises play on the tides of the river, and witness breathtaking coastal sunsets over the water.

To learn about Beaufort's 300-year heritage, take a boat tour along the river, travel through the city's historic streets in a quaint horse-drawn carriage or walk the streets with a guide dressed in period garb. Linger in the quaint downtown shops loaded with antiques, clothing, gifts, furnishings and more. Peruse the many art galleries featuring the works of local Lowcountry artisans.

Beaufort is the ideal base for all of your Lowcountry and Coastal Empire excursions. The Sea Islands and Atlantic Ocean are just a few miles from downtown, so be sure to visit Hunting Island with its historic lighthouse and sunny ocean beaches. And Beaufort is ideally located for day-trips to Charleston, Savannah and Hilton Head Island--only an hour or so from each destination.

In Beaufort, you can sit and enjoy the sun and water while you sip your favorite beverage, or you can fill your days with boating, kayaking, beachcombing, fishing, sightseeing and history--it's your choice. Welcome to Beaufort, South Carolina's coastal paradise!

Owner info

Year Purchased: 2011

About the owner: I moved to Beaufort from the Pennsylvania Amish country to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the coast and the sunshine. Living in Beaufort has renewed my spirit and introduced me to many new friends, while allowing me to share the beauty of my new adopted home town with my friends from Pennsylvania. I have always enjoyed entertaining and decorating, so my cozy cottage in Beaufort allows me to indulge my favorite pastimes.

Why the Owner Chose Beaufort:
My husband and I vacationed in Beaufort a few years ago and fell in love with the historic charm of the town, its friendly, welcoming people, the wonderful waterfront restaurants and the natural beauty of Beaufort by the sea. This is a magical place to begin a new life! Unfortunately, My husband passed away in January 2011, so I made the "big move" alone. I know he would be proud of what I have been able to accomplish.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
I love to sit on my cottage's porches and enjoy the river breezes, the shade of the huge old Live Oak trees draped in Spanish moss, and the peace and tranquility of my river neighborhood. The Pigeon Point dock and deck are less than a ten minute walk, you can catch a sunset if you are an early bird, and if not, just turn around for a beautiful sunset to the west. No matter when you are there, be sure to keep an eye out for the playful dolphins.
