Mountain House in The Homestead Preserve provides a serene and peaceful setting to rejuvenate, relax, and reconnect - the perfect vacation!
Mountain House was named by the owner's young granddaughters, who enjoy a break from city life during their frequent visits. The house was completed in 2011, and has 6000 square feet of living space. Built on a slope, what looks like a modest cottage from the front is actually 3 levels of luxury living with five spacious bedrooms and five and a half baths, all decorated with the owner's personal fine furnishings and artwork.
The master wing includes a piano study, screened morning porch, bedroom with gas fireplace, walk-in closet with desk, and a double sink bath with a huge Italian terra-cotta tiled shower for two and a clawfoot soaking tub.
A separate entrance into the mud room/laundry area flows through the butler's pantry into the island kitchen and open dining area with seating for 10-12. This connects to the lovely, large screened-in main porch, which has additional dining space for 6 and a beautiful natural stone wood- burning fireplace. The porch is a wonderful gathering place to enjoy the evening breeze and mountain views! The main level great room has a 22' ceiling open to the second level, and features a majestic floor-to-ceiling stone wood-burning fireplace.
The second level has 2 queen bedrooms, one with in-suite bath, and a large kids' bedroom with 2 twins and 2 cribs. The hall bath has double sinks, and a separate area for tub and toilet. A library loft serves as a comfortable spot for reading or watching TV. The loft exercise area has a Landice treadmill and Lifecycle recumbent bike.
The walk-out lower level has a cozy family room with a gas fireplace, big screen TV and Olhausen pool table. A charming double bedroom with bath completes the space. The bath features a wildlife theme with tiles, cabinet knobs, and photographs of animals native to the Allegheny mountains!
The luxury appointments - Kohler and Toto bath fixtures, Hubbardton Forge lighting, solid oak dark stained hardwood flooring, fully equipped Chef's gourmet kitchen with Kitchen Aid Architect Series appliances and a dual-fuel 6-burner pro range, heirloom oriental rugs, Casablanca and Hunter ceiling fans, comfy leather sofas, Woodard and Brown Jordan porch furniture, Ralph Lauren linens - make Mountain House an extremely comfortable and relaxing vacation retreat.

Our family has for many years vacationed at the Homestead Resort immediately following Christmas. This is the first time we have NOT stayed at the Resort hotel. We were somewhat unsure as to the implications and, therefore, a little anxious. Thankfully, our anxiety was largely abated and we enjoyed skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, hiking, in-door / out-door swimming, cocktails and dinner at the Resort. Dining Note During Peak Periods - The Resort provides for "same day" reservations for non-Guests, which therefore subordinates demand to the hotel occupants. So, beware if you're there during peak periods as you may be stuck with a reservation at 5PM or 9PM for most venues. The Owner, as a "Member", indicated she may be able address this issue with advance notice. So, in this case, plan ahead with specificity. The property is a beautiful, quite well-built home with beautiful views. There were two garage spaces (which was nice as it snowed each day). Living space was on three levels and included two out door terraces with wonderful views -- one with an outdoor fireplace. We had six adults and six children who universally enjoyed the very well kept home, area amenities and close proximity to the Homestead Resort. Owner was responsive, helpful and promptly returned the deposit after carefully checking the house after our check out. Check in and Check Out procedures were clearly provided. An example of the Owner's attention to detail (which is high) -- the home had a "Location Sheet" - which was helpful in locating miscellaneous incidentals in a very large home (for example, it directed us to the right cabinet, on the right shelf, for a first aid kit). The photos provided by VRBO accurately reflected the appearance and amenities, the property was extraordinary well kept, organized and well laid out for our family and friends. We would strongly recommend this property and owner and hope to rent there again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, pet owners, families with young children.

We just returned from a wonderful Thanksgiving at Mountain House at the Homestead Resort. The home is beautifully appointed and very spacious, and it was the perfect place to gather family together for fun, relaxation, and celebration. The kitchen is large and is open to the first floor living area, and there are also areas on the upper and lower level for gathering (so teens and tweens can have some separate space as well). The owner of the home was extremely helpful before and during our stay, and our deposit was returned (in full) in just over a week. We have rented other homes with Homestead Resort privileges before; however, I would have to say that this was by far our best experience!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

About the owner: Hello, and welcome! I am so happy to share my lovely mountain property with you and hope you will visit for an incredible vacation in a very quiet, serene, luxurious and comfortable family home. I am a semi-retired executive from the food service industry, and live part time in Hot Springs and the rest in Northern Virginia. I have a large family of 4 adult children and 5 grandkids (so far), and we try to spend family time together here in our wonderful mountain home whenever possible. I purchased my lot in the Homestead Preserve after searching lots of vacation properties on the East Coast. I was taken with the conservation aspects of the development, the club membership at the Homestead Golf and Tennis, and the wonderful mountain views on the property and around beautiful Bath County. (There are no traffic lights in Hot Springs - only stop signs!!! A welcome respite from the congestion in NVA). I selected a Southern Living house plan and began construction in early 2009. It was a challenge to build on such a sloping and wooded site, but it has been a rewarding and fun experience. The house is just spectacular, and has a wonderful floor plan for my large family. There are so many fun activities available at the resort, there is always something for all ages to enjoy - and the Homestead is truly a 4 season resort. My personal favorite spot is cocktail hour out on the porch; or walking Maddie, our golden retriever, on one of the many trails that wind through the Preserve. I maintain a condo in Northern Virginia when I want a taste of city life, but the quiet and beckoning allure of Bath County keeps me in the mountains as often as possible.
Why the Owner Chose Hot Springs:
Spectacular mountain views, serene and quiet location, golf and tennis club membership, full array of activities and dining at the Homestead Resort.
The Unique Benefits at this Chateau / Country House:
Acomodates a large family or multi-couples beautifully!
Access to guest privileges at The Old Dairy Community Center (5 miles) and The Homestead Resort (1.2 miles).
