Oostburg house description
House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible Bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 4-6)
Our home on Windmill Beach is truly a sanctuary in that special Lake Michigan environment where you have the beach and shoreline as well as woods and wildlife. Yet it is easily accessible from I-43 and there are many things to do and see in the area.
As you drive down the tree-covered private road that leads to the lake, you immediately breath easier. At the bottom of the road is a sprawling beach with Lake Michigan waves as the backdrop. This beautiful sandy beach is shared by just a few families. You can walk for miles in either direction. There's a fire pit and Adirondack chairs on the upper beach. We provide beach chairs that you can set up at water's edge. You are welcome to bring small boats, kayaks, or water rafts. Larger boats must be launched about a mile down the beach.
This year-round home is two lots over from the beach and is surrounded by woods. When the lake winds kick up, the backyard is a quiet retreat and great place for a fire. From the covered front porch you can relax and listen to the waves. You can see slivers of lake but the view is partially obscured by cottages across the road.
There's always some wildlife to observe, even from inside where there are floor-to-ceiling windows facing the woods. Hiking around the woods, you might stumble upon the old Dutch cemetery or the raptor conservation station. When it's quiet, the deer will actually take a nap in the backyard.
Autumn is a crisp and beautiful time here. As the trees lose their leaves, you can see deeper into the woods. It's a great time to explore the surroundings with the crunch of leaves underfoot.
As winter sets in, so does peace and quiet. It seems that the snow always falls more gently down here as we are protected from the howling west winds. Bring your cross-country skis or snow shoes.
The home includes two bedrooms. The master has a queen-size bed and enough space for a portable crib. Second bedroom has a full-size bed, plus there's a full sofa sleeper in the living room. The recently renovated bathroom has a tile shower and nice vanity.
The living room is classic knotty pine with a wood-burning fireplace and comfortable furniture. There is a large-screen TV and WiFi conection.
The large kitchen/dining area has all you need to cook and serve your group. There's also a built-in desk area. The mudroom has front-loading washer and dryer, plus there's an attached garage with opener.
Any time of year -- you will relax and have fun at Windmill Beach.

Great long weekend
Great long weekend
We absolutely loved our short stay at this cozy beach house! The owner met us there the evening we arrived to give us a tour and hand us the keys. She was very nice considering we had many delays on the day of our arrival and we arrived many hours later than anticipated. The house had everything we would need including bath linens, beach towels, kitchen supplies complete with grill tools for the outdoor gas grill. If you stay here, you really don't need to bring much along besides your clothes. The house was very clean and well kept. We loved taking walks along the dirt road amongst the woods and even ventured to the old cemetery at the top of the hill. Our 12 year old had great fun at the beach which is only a few steps away. The neighbors are our friends so it was easy to socialize but if you wanted to have time alone, this is also a perfect place to do that . The back patio was lovely and we sat around the firepit a couple of diferent nights and enjoyed the sounds of the woods. Oostberg is only a few minutes away and we enjoyed going there for groceries and checking out a couple of interesting stores. We will definitely bring our bicycles with next time and ride the bike path into Oostburg. Sheboygan has a fantastic farmer's market that I enjoyed shopping at on Saturday. We definitely recommend this home and would love to stay again!

Nice house in the woods near the beach
Nice house in the woods near the beach
This house was lovely. It was clean and functional, had a wonderful porch, nice kitchen, and bedrooms for two couples. The house was set in trees, so pretty cool even during a hot day. The house was a minute walk to the beach. The beach was quiet and stretched for miles. Great swimming in the lake. We stopped by Sheboygan and got some fresh Door County whitefish at Schwarz's, which was awesome. The hostess was accommodating, close but not hovering, very helpful and pleasant.

Best summer ever
Best summer ever
Our summer at this wonderful cottage near the lake is now winding down and we will be sorry to see it end. The people at Windmill Beach have all made us feel so welcome and we feel like we have made some new life-long friends. The beach, the deer in the woods have all added to a hiatus with nature. Nearby Sheboygan has everything that we needed. We are looking forward to coming back next summer. We will travel lighter and bring less. This cottage had everything any visitor could want. No need to bring Anything but your casual clothes. The owners met every expectations we had and more.
