Great Home Away From Home
Great Home Away From Home
Our family of five (two parents, children ages 12, 10 & 8) REALLY enjoyed this property during our 11-day stay on the Big Island. It is newly remodeled and extremely clean and well-maintained as the photos/description show. We love the sliding wall that opens the living/kitchen space to the lanai/pool deck! We had it open nearly all of the time. The homeowner provides beach chairs, bamboo mats, body boards and other beach items to use. The kitchen is adequately stocked with dishes, utensils and other supplies. The beds are very comfortable, and there is plenty of closet and drawer space to store your own clothes during your stay. As the owner notes, the bedrooms (each with their own beautiful bathroom) are accessed via the lanai/pool deck. So, if you have small children who could possibly wander outside at night, this isn't a safe set up. Both the owner and the property manager are extremely pleasant, responsive and helpful. The house is in a great location in Waikoloa Village, just 30 minutes north of Kona. It's primarily a residential community, but it has basic amenities (gas, groceries, restaurants) available. Minor issue: Neighbor dogs (there are several) bark loudly and early in the mornings. But don't let this keep you from staying here. We would definitely stay here again!

A Dream Come True
A Dream Come True
Our family of four rented this house for two weeks over Christmas holidays. It was beyond our highest expectations. The house itself is immaculate and stunning. Attention to detail has been paid in every room. We absolutely loved the sliding pocket doors, as it allowed easy access to the house and pool area. The pool was a highlight. Our kids (ages 5 & 7) swam whenever they wanted, and the great thing about this house is that it is easy to supervise swimming from both the main living area and outside deck. The set up of the pool area allows for different areas to sit and relax, whether you want sun or shade. The addition of the firepit was appreciated after an evening swim on cooler nights. We found the house to be highend, yet it also has a relaxed feeling. The bedrooms and bathrooms are large and beautifully finished. Please note that the bedrooms are not connected to each other or the main living area. Bedrooms are accessed off the pool deck. This is a unique set-up that worked for us. The kitchen was also a highlight. It is well equipped and made cooking a pleasure. You will have views of the ocean, mountains, and sunsets. We also appreciated the village and area. It was nice to be away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy areas. Yet it was only a ten minute drive if we wanted to go. We felt like we were in our own private oasis. Some of the most amazing beaches (Hapuna and Mauna Kea) are only ten minutes away. Thank you to the home owners for opening their home to us! Communication and booking were flawless. It was a trip that we will never forget. Loved The Big Island!

We rented this house for my family as we were getting married at the fairmont the followng weekend. This house was more than we expected! It had a warm and comfortable feeling - it felt like we were home in some sense. Very well kept, practically brand new appliances and furniture. the master bedroom is large and both bathrooms are MASSIVE! Beds are extremely comfortable and the kitchen was stocked with all the necessary dishes - and some condiments that previous tenants may have left behin which was nice :). One of the things we noticed was the "how to" guide book. It was extremly helpful especially when using the stove. then theres the pool - huge pool and very clean! The small hot tub was not working but that didnt bother us one bit as the pool was more than what we expected. The owner Pam was extremely helpful with processing the rental eventhough we had a bit of snafu in the beginning. Pam was very understanding and extremely patient. Pam, i cant thank you enough for making everything so easy. I will absolutely recommend this property to our friends and will definitely contact you again when we return to Kona.

Made our vacation!
Made our vacation!
This was by far the best place we stayed at on the big island! The photos do not do this place justice! It was open and cooled off quite nicely in the evening. The kitchen was huge and accommodated 5 people without feeling crowded and it was an added bonus to have the huge sliding doors open to let in the nice tropical Hawaiian breeze. This house was VERY private and had a grocery store 5 mins away. The two separate rooms both had massive bathrooms and a nice lay out. We are definitely coming back to this house when we come to the Big Island again!!

WOW Awesome Place
WOW Awesome Place
This home is exactly as advertised and we enjoyed every minute. We have older children that loved the separate bedroom and their own bathroom. The master and the rest of the home is very modern and tastefully decorated. We were looking for a quiet home away from the resorts and this is it. Although it is a drive to the beaches and other attractions, it is a great value for the money spent. We loved the pool and barbeque. Watching the sunsets each night was also a pleasant experience. We would definitely rent again and have have recommended to everyone we have talked to after our visit. Although the layout is all accessed from the deck (as previously mentioned) we did not find it an issue. As the cook in the family I loved the kitchen and open concept. The roll back doors absolutely make this home. It was great to come back here after a day at the beach or exploring the island. The pictures do not do this place justice. Thanks Pam and Rod for sharing your home.

What a place! This astonishing house in Waikoloa Village. On a corner and and above the road you had privacy on the beautiful deck. Nice swimmingpool and Jacuzzi, classy and comfortable outside furnitures. Astonishing sunsets, rigth there, no need to go anywhere to see it. We used the barbeque a lot, nice to sit/lay outside and just relax in the sun all day long. Think this is the best kitchen we've ever had in a vacation home. Very well equipped, all you need is there. The furnitures inside were also very classy and comfortable, living room, dining area and both bedrooms. We loved the size of the bathrooms. This is a very quiet place, just traffic to the surrounded houses and of course the sounds that nature gives us. We did do some sightseeing all over the island. What a variety it gives you, we were amazed! Beautiful beaches to go to, swimming, playing or surfing. So many beautiful places. You'll find many good/nice shops too. At Kings/Queens and Mauna Lani, you will need a car. We highly recommend this home to others. Perfect for almost everyone we say. Exept maybe wheelchairs, you have to walk some steps to get into the house! You can tell the owners have done some work in this home. So if you rent it, please take good care of it! We loved this house and it's just too bad it's so far away! Pam and Rod, thank you so much for lending us your paradise house. Love it :-D hope to return!

Owner response: Thank you so much for your honest opinion, it's nice to hear your comments of appreciation for all our hard work in renovating our home. We hope you'll be able to return to the Big Island one day, although it's a long way from Norway. Thanks again, Rod & Pam
A perfect stay
A perfect stay
A week of enjoyment at this lovely home. This home provides all you need while on vacation such as a full kitchen, beautiful bathrooms, and comfortable bedrooms to sleep. The pool deck is wonderful, the view is amazing, stars are bright at night, and a great barbecue grill for lovely cook outs. A pool to cool off while basking in the hot Hawaii sun, it worked out perfect. The bathroom & bedroom renovations came out wonderful. We highly recommend this home, the location is great, peaceful, and safe. The homeowners are very easy and pleasant to work with when booking our reservations. Definitely will be back again!! Thank you very much for a wonderful stay!!

Some issues ...
Some issues ...
We stayed at this home for two weeks. There were many positives, which are reflected in other reviews. The home is well maintained. There is a nice new kitchen that is easy to cook in. The living room that opens onto the pool deck is fabulous, and there are great sunsets. The new bathrooms are also really well done. Unfortunately the home was not as advertised. We limited our search to a home that had a pool and a spa. This home has an unheated pool, which is normal in Hawaii. We've found that unheated pools are easy to deal with if there is a nice heated spa to warm up in periodically. Unfortunately the house did not have a functioning spa. We were not warned in advance, and were simply told that it's hard to fix a spa in Hawaii, and that they had been trying to fix it for three months. Even in Hawaii, this is getting old. The sign they had made for the non-functioning spa was semi-permanent, and we found the refusal of the owners to do anything about it unacceptable. As a result, we barely used the pool. The home is also not well suited for families. We have three young children between the ages of 2 to 7. If you have young children, or anyone in your party who you might want to be able to hear at night, this is not the home for you. The house is set up as three different rooms around a pool deck, with nothing but a sliding door lock on one of the rooms. There is the living room/kitchen, a bedroom with two beds and an ensuite, and a master bedroom with ensuite. They are not adjoining. At night and when you leave during the day, you need to lock all the doors to all three rooms, as the deck could easily be climbed over. The community is nice and reasonably safe, but was nonetheless suburban. Judging by some of the large pitbulls on leashes in front yards, it wasn't crime free. Coming from Venice Beach in California, we are accustomed to this, but we do like to be able to hear our children at night. So we had the unfortunate situation of having to split up every night for our two week holiday. My wife would lock herself into one bedroom with two of the kids, and I would lock myself into the other bedroom with one of them. Given that the spa was unheated and half full of water, there wasn't much romance on this holiday! This could be a great setup for two couples, as long as they like a cold pool and nowhere to warm up.

Owner response: We're sorry our home wasn't suitable for your family, here's an update on the issues you addressed. We have installed Solar heating panels to warm the pool. After many months of frustration & repair costs we decided to remove the hot tub and replace it with a Propane Fire Pit to enjoy on cooler evenings. We have also added to our VRBO description that our home may not be suitable for a family with young children, as the rooms are not adjoining. We're sorry our home wasn't suitable for your family.
After arriving in Kona on a five and a half hour flight from Vegas we were looking forward to some relaxation time. We are a travelling party of six, after picking up our hire car from Hertz, we set off with the directions given to this rental property. After a bit of confusion with direction (not knowing the area and it was dark) we arrived to find this paradise. This property has the biggest WOW factor when you enter it's doors. It had everything. I loved the kitchen, it was like a restaurants kitchen) so well planned. The sliding doors opened this house up with inside or outside entertaining. The barbeque was fantastic, as we spent quite a bit of time relaxing and eating outside. The sunsets were amazing, I have never experienced such beauty night after night. The owners have wonderful taste in furnishings, I loved everything. Bathrooms were beautiful, and had just recently been finished after renovations. If you are looking for something away from the resort areas that is quiet, this is for you. The house offers all the information required to self drive around the island. My husband found this book (he called it is bible) that had everything you could possibly do and see while on the Big Island. I would recommend transport, as it is needed to get around the island. Pam and Rod were very efficient with responding to e-mail inquiries. The home is an asset to them. I would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone I know going to the Big Island of Hawaii. We had a wonderful time and found it hard to leave this fantastic property.

Tough to Leave
Just a note to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay in your beautiful home. It was sure tough to leave, especially when we came home to rainy, forty degree north Idaho. We had a great time including many days exploring different beaches, driving all around the island (we put on over 1000 miles on our car) and even went zip lining. Thanks again for sharing your wonderful home with us

We've recently added solar panels to heat the pool. We will continue to upgrade our home in the coming years.
