Hale KenekeLika means "Ken and Liz home" and we think you'll find our house is an affordable, lovely, very private, comfortable oasis to use as your home base for all the exciting and relaxing activities the Big Island of Hawaii has to offer! It is always cool and breezy in Paradise.
Our two bedroom, two bath home is located on almost a half-acre in tropical lush area on the eastern side of the Big Island, just a 30 minute drive from Hilo, the second largest city in Hawaii. The property has many beautiful flowering plants and fruit trees. Anything that is ripe is yours for the eating!
The avocados on the tree in our back yard are larger than small cantaloupes, and have a wonderful rich, buttery texture. You will love them. You will enjoy the fragrance and beauty of the gardenias, ginger, heliconia, orchids, bromeliads, and other beautiful tropical plants.
We pride ourselves on providing the little extras that make a place comfortable. This house is our home away from home, so you will find it is equipped for living, not just for a short vacation. The kitchen is well supplied, with dishes and flatware for eight people as well as basic kitchen supplies like herbs & spices, flour, oil, sugar, etc.
We have beach chairs, beach towels, umbrellas and other amenities that will make your excursions to the water (just a six mile drive down one of the prettiest roads you'll ever see) easy and fun.
Hilo boasts many wonderful restaurants, a mall, excellent movie theatres, good shopping, and loads of free festivals and Hawaiian activities. The most important hula competition in the world, the MERRIE MONARCH FESTIVAL, takes place here each spring, and hula troops come from all over the world to compete.
Last summer an incredible event took place at the Princess Liliu'okalani festival, (located at a beautiful Japanese park right on Hilo Bay) where over 400 hula dancers performed simultaneously while a helicopter dropped orchids from the sky! It was an incredibly beautiful day, and there were few who weren't moved to tears by the serenity and harmony of the event.
Every September is the Hilo Ho'olaulea, a music festival with four or five stages of performers, including hula, Hawaiian music, Reggae and Rock. There are always wonderful, home-made, inexpensive food booths at ANY Hawaiian celebration!
Hilo and Pahoa both have farmers' markets every weekend, where you can stock up on fresh baked goods, fruits, vegetables, flowers and all kinds of Hawaiiana. The famous Hilo Hattie's store is there, with its amazing selection of Hawaiian clothing, dishes, coffee, candy, jewelry and souvenirs.
From our house, you are within easy driving distance for trips to Volcanoes National Park (just an hour from us), Isaac Hale Beach Park (10 minutes), and Ahalanui warm tidal springs pool (12 minutes). The Kapoho Tidepools, considered by many to be the best snorkeling on the Eastern side of the Big Island, are only 12 minutes away. (Kapoho Kia drive)
The charming little town of Pahoa is just four miles, and boasts seven different ethnic restaurants (including some of the best Mexican food outside of Mexico!),wonderful gift shops, a health food store and grocery.
We do require a $250.00 security deposit(weekly)or $500.00(monthly) which is REFUNDABLE to you within 30 days of your departure from the home providing there is no damage or excessive cleaning needed. This deposit is due at the time that you make your reservation, and the full rental fee is due 30 days prior to the beginning of the rental.
We want your vacation to be perfect, so come and relax with privacy, beauty, comfort, and easy access to all the amazing sights the Big Island has to offer... All at a very affordable price!

What a lovely home and peaceful place. Wish we could have stayed more that one week! Went to the hot ponds everyday, it was so close! Amazing. Thank you for your hospitality. The Kupka's.

Hi Elizabeth, We stayed in your lovely home in Nanawale June 4-12. I can see why you want to live permanently outside of Hilo as it is such a peaceful lovely community.

My parents, girlfriend, and I stayed at the hale for a week in May'06 and had a wonderful holiday! The house is very homely and the surrounding area is so peaceful and quiet, with some of the cleanest air that I have ever breathed. This is the place to go if you're looking for pure R&R and to get away from the hustle and bustle; you won't regret it!
