My wife and I stayed in the "Nest" home for four nights and we could not have been more pleased. Whitney and Blake were so accommodating and everything you could want was provided. The location was very convenient to the recreational opportunities down the street at Lake Tomahawk and there is a short walk into the village. Also the drive into Asheville is quick and easy. We have stayed in many VRBO properties and have never had one as well outfitted as the "Nest". If you are going to be in the Black Mountain / Asheville area; stay in the "Nest". You will be very happy.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+.
Owner response: Jean & Jeff, Thank you so much! We enjoyed having you with us. We always strive to meet or exceed people's expectations and create an atmosphere of relaxing and stress free living for the time that guests are with us. We are so grateful you had a wonderful time! Come back anytime! Whitney & Blake

Our Winter Break in Black Mountain, NC

We joined together our family from Philadelphia and Atlanta for our Winter Break and we needed a special spot to share our time together. My family and I had the pleasure of staying at "The Nest" in Black Mountain, NC in February, and we talk of our return next February 2014. Whitney and Blake welcomed our inquiry, provided us with all the details for our stay, and ensured that our visit was most pleasant. I had not visited Black Mountain for many years, but I was again so charmed by its strong sense of community and the wide array of offerings and activities for visitors. The Nest is perfectly located in the residential area next to Lake Tomahawk which we enjoyed with our children every day. Our 7 year old even wrote a short story about "George Duckington", the white duck in the lake with the most outrageous "hair-do". George has become a visual legend in our family. The Nest has a wonderful layout, decor, and working kitchen which was so important as I love to cook! We appreciated all the thoughtful touches of movies, books, washer/dryer, Wi-Fi, computer, and suggestions for visitors about area amenities and attractions. We felt right at home, and we again fell in love with another Homeaway stay as if it were our own. Black Mountain offers great restaurants and shopping, and we went to the Dripolator for our morning cup of joe, browsed in the local library, consignment shop, and various stores featuring brilliant art, pottery, and jewelry. We hiked around Montreat, and traveled south to Chimney Rock, and even used our Y Membership to go swimming in Asheville. I am a yoga teacher and massage therapist so I took advantage of practicing at Black Mountain Yoga, and I had an amazing therapeutic and corrective massage with Alejo at The Source for Wellness in Black Mountain as well. I highly recommend both for yoga and wellness services - it was really quite a treat! The Ingles grocery store was wonderful and close by. As you can tell our family settled in quite nicely at The Nest, and we hated to leave! Highly recommend -just not during our Winter Break next February!Owner response: Ronda, It was wonderful to have your family at The Nest! Yes, indeed George Duckington is still enjoying Lake Tomahawk as his home. I believe your son has named him well! We created The Nest as a respite from our busy world and are thrilled that you all were able to enjoy it and our beautiful town. Come back soon to visit! Sincerely, Whitney & Blake

We loved our stay at the Nest. The cottage is lovely and looked just like the listing, and the location is beautiful and couldn't be more convienent for all there is to do and see in this area. Great kitchen for preparing meals and family room is a nice area to play cards and games. Did our food shopping at BiLo and received loyalty customer discount when we said we were tourists. Great savings! The Biltmore decorated for Christmas is beautiful. We loved breakfast at Louise's Kitchen and the fried green tomatoes at Black Mt. Bistro are delicious! It was always great to come back to the comfort of the Nest after a day of sightseeing or shopping though. We will definitely be back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

My husband and I stayed at The Nest for a quick little anniversary get away. It was the perfect spot- a mile from town, and just down the road from some great hiking in Montreat. We will definitely book here again when we bring the kids. It is two steps from Lake Tomahawk which will be perfect for them. Whitney made renting the place a breeze! Oh, and I usually hate staying anywhere because the bed will kill my back. Beds are SUPER comfy.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Carrie, it was so great to be able to work out the dates for your anniversary time together. We'd love to host you all again whether it is for couple time or family time!

Black Mountain has been a favorite destination of ours for day trips for years....great restaurants, great shopping, lots of outdoor activities. Now we have found the perfect place to stay overnight. The Nest is a very clean, well maintained, nicely decorated home in a great location. We enjoyed walks around the lake, knitting on the porch and college game day on a very nice TV. Our grandchildren enjoyed the park playground and shopping in the toy store downtown. It was a truly restful experience and we look forward to returning soon.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: We are so glad you found the jewel of Black Mountain years ago and keep returning. It is our favorite place! We are glad you enjoyed the cottage and were able to rest and play. Come on back anytime!

We loved " The Nest"! This cottage has been renovated and is adorable. It is very clean and well equipped. We called Whitney (last minute) to see if we could arrive that same night and take the only two days that were available. She accommdated us immediately and was so gracious in the process. We were ready to go to Black Mountain with all the info we needed in less than 30 min. We had a wonderful quick trip and would highly recommend this cottage. The park at Lake Tomahawk was a nice place to walk and is very close to the cottage. This will definitely be our Black Mountain getaway! Owner response: We are so glad it worked out for you all to get away and that we were able to accommodate you! Come on over anytime! When we go to Southern Pines we will check our your amazing looking VRBO farmhouse. Looks like golfer's paradise!

My friends and I rented the property and had an amazing time. This house was perfect and exactly as described/photographed. It is in a great location with a lot of activities that are within walking distance or a short drive. We especially enjoyed Lake Tomahawk park. I would certainly recommend this property to anyone traveling in the area. The house included everything we needed, all we had to bring was our food. For the same price as 1 night in a hotel we were able to have two nights in a relaxing home. This was our second year attending an event at Pisgah Brewery (another great attraction) and we would gladly choose The Nest again!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: It was great to have you all here at The Nest! Your enjoyment of Pisgah's music gives us an idea to put their calendar in the book at The Nest and our website on our Things To Do page. Thank you!! Come back anytime! Whitney & Blake
