Secluded Cottage on Great Pond (Swim & Boat) Walk to Sound Beach

From the hammock, watch the sun set over the pond (really a half-mile-long lake fed by three springs). Relax, listen to the birds & frogs as the reeds rustle. We see ourselves as guardians of the wetlands and invite you to share them. Paddle the kayak, pedal the pedalboat. You might see a handful of people out fishing. Use the binoculars and watch red-winged blackbirds, ospreys, swans, geese & other migratory birds. You don't even have to leave the porch to enjoy them.
The swimming is easy. Our private little beachsite is shallow and surrounded by reeds. You can swim across all of Great Pond. Loll around on a float, or just watch the clouds go by.
Sunsets can be dramatic, patches of pink and blue. The night sky is full of stars - maybe you will catch a shooting star.
There are yard games like croquet to play in the yard and the grill awaits you too. If there's a chill, the gas fireplace can warm the soul.

Our group of 6 had a great time. We took advantage of the bikes, boats, and visited nearby Elbow East and Sparkling Point. The house is a really nice break from the city and let us reconnect with nature. The owners are very responsive and helpful, sending emails with lists of things to do in the area and detailed instructions about the house. The only caution I would give is to be sure to bring a car. Although Southold is reachable by train, you need a car to get to the house, buy groceries, visit the surrounding area, etc. We decided to bring a car at the last minute, and the trip would have been much less fun without it.Did you find this review helpful? My family stayed at the cottage for a week at Thanksgiving this year. It is the second time we have spent a holiday at the cottage. We look forward to doing it again in the future. The cottage has everything you need to to enjoy your stay. The kitchen is first rate and Thanksgiving dinner was a easy task. We enjoyed the paddle boat, kayak and the fishing was good for the time of year. The location of the cottage makes it easy to visit many areas of the north fork. The owners are wonderful to deal with and easy to get in touch with. We will be back! DonDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Back for our second visit to Judith's and Yehudit's Cabin on the Pond and our group of 4 had a perfect stay! The cabin had been very nicely renovated since our last visit and we were excited to see a beautiful new kitchen, bigger windows and two modern bathrooms. Once again we loved the large pond for kayak rides, for fishing, morning coffee sipping, and beautiful sunsets in the evenings. The cabin has everything we needed (rowboat, kayak, pedal boat, 2 hammocks, bikes, beach chairs, modern gas grill, etc) so we spent plenty of time enjoying all those amenities. The surrounding area has so much to offer as well! Kennys Beach on the Sound is very close and the gently rolling, tree-lined roads make for both scenic runs and bike rides. We visited several wineries (highly recommend Shinn Vineyards and the Lenz Winery) and also Braun Seafood for fresh seafood to eat there or to grill back at the cabin. Just as before, Judith and Yehudit were very kind, helpful, and available whenever we needed. This cabin really is perfect for a small group. We had two couples and a small dog and felt we had all we needed for a comfortable stay.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

My family and I recently stayed at this lovely cottage lake house. It was exactly what I imagined based on the website descriptions and pictures. It was quiet, comfortable, and organized. The house was supplied with everything you might have thought you left at home, which was an added bonus. The owners of the home were extremely nice and always available to answer all your questions. It was a nice long weekend I desperately needed.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

My husband, daughter and son-in-law had a wonderful 3 day stay at Cabin on the Pond. The setting is beautiful - very private and yet the water of the pond and the wetlands are right there. We enjoyed the peddle boat and kayaks and relaxing with a book in the hammocks in the mornings, and toured wineries in the afternoon. We used the kitchen to make wonderful meals from local farm markets. We visited the goat farm (amazing lavendar honey goat chevre), purchased local fruit spread, visited the olive oil and vinegar tasting shop, and discovered, most amazingly, Aldos Coffee in Greenport (not to be missed). After dinner, we played games on the large vintage dining room table. There was plenty of indoor light, and the 2 bedrooms are nicely separated by the full bath. We were very comfortable and hope to visit again in spring or summer. The property was very well kept and clean, and minor glitches with gas to the grill were fixed promptly. We found Yehudit and Judith to be excellent hosts.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We stayed at the cabin for a short week at the end of June and had a wonderful time. Our 2 young kids enjoyed running around, observe nature, swim and boat on the Pond as well as at the 2 nearby beaches. The cabin is very well suited for a family and super functional. The BBQ came in super handy and so did the bikes. The immediate area is full of wonderful things to do but as a family, we enjoyed being together at the cabin, listen to the quiet and look at the beautiful sunsets. Overall, a great experience to connect and reconnect. Would consider visiting in a different season. Thumbs up! Of importance: the owners are very responsive and provided us with all we needed to know, being totally new to the area (i.e.: directions to the house, how to get a beach pass at the Town Clerk's Office quickly, etc...).Did you find this review helpful? My parents and I came up to the cabin on the pond from the city for a weekend during the first heat wave of the summer. It was a beautiful location down a nice shady quiet road, and only a 10 min walk to the beach. Judith and Yehudit were always very quick at getting back to me with answers all of my questions and were very accommodating the entire weekend when we decided last minute to bring our dog and even replaced one of the AC units. I definitely recommend this cabin and hope to return this summer!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We stayed at Judith and Yehudit's place for a short girl's weekend. It was beautiful. It is one of the cleanest lakes I have ever swam in and we were able to see lots of wildlife- the ospreys being one of the favorites. While out on the kayaks, we watched them dive for fish only yards in front of us. Greenport is very close and we went there for dinner and drinks. Claudio's in Greenport has very good seafood and the place turns into a bar/ club after about about 9pm. We also stopped by the carnival off of route 48 for the fireworks. This is a great place to spend the summer. Judith and Yehudit were very helpful and supplied us with a packet of information about what to do around Southold which was very helpful. I will definitely be back and I will also be telling my friends...Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My friends and I stayed here for a long weekend in May, and the cabin was delightful. I loved listening to the wildlife at night - so incredibly peaceful. The cabin was perfectly setup for sitting by the fire, cooking, resting and kayaking by the Great Pond. My friends enjoyed the wineries a lot! I enjoyed our afternoon jaunt to Horton's Lighthouse a short drive down the street. Greenport was a quick drive and offered many cute shops and places to sit and enjoy the day with a cup of coffee (or beer!). All in all, we were all very very happy with our stay. Judith and Yehudit also went above and beyond in making sure we had all the info, and that we were comfortable and enjoyed ourselves. Highly recommended!!!Did you find this review helpful?
