My wife, friends and I had another wonderful stay at the cabin--our second. We particularly enjoyed the river view, the well appointed kitchen, bedroooms and baths. and the log cabin feel with its large porch overlooking the river. Very pleasant and relaxing ambience, and relations with owner and staff were equally pleasant.

The leaves were changing at their peak and were beautiful. We went to Sparta, NC “Triple E Riding Stables” to go Horseback Riding and we had so much fun. Hiked to the Gate and Back as our morning exercise. Went to Boone which was nice and the drive was so spectacular! Our Jack Russells loved playing by the water and chasing the squirrels. Thank you so much for opening your house to us. This is our 2nd year and we will be back!!

Thank you for a wonderful long weekend in your mountain paradise! We enjoyed your charming cabin and the serenity that surrounds it! The temperature started in the 60s and has now entered the 40s. What a great way to experience Fall being from Florida and South Carolina. We hope to return one day!

We spent a wonderful week here in the cabin. Arrived on a Sunday night & rain set in on Monday morning & continued on and off until Wednesday afternoon – Allowed us to relax. We did get some fishing in between showers with some luck. Caught several nice trout in the pool below the falls and stream. We made a trip to Glendale Springs, NC on Thrusday to walk thru the shops & stretch our legs – stopped by trading post on the parkway on the way back for some goodies. We ate good all week & watch several movies – cool nights & morning were a welcomed break to the hot days of summer. Thanks for allowing us to rent the cabin.

Yen & Thi Thank you for sharing your property with us. Our family made so many memories this week Hiking & exploring the river was great fun. We decided nature can be quite exhausting when you’re having fun. The kids use the waterfalls as natural waterslides. We caught crawfish and cooked ‘em up for a snack! Went fishing w/ the corn and were feeding the fish more than catchin them. Last night we had a boat building contest and winners boat had to make it down the waterfall w/ “marshmallow man” alive. 3 of the 6 boats made it! We also explored Cascade Falls, 3 Upper Creek Falls. Upper Creek Falls is a Must for the adventurous type! Back to reality in the morning. :'(

The cabin was clean and well appointed. The stream is very close, easily accessible from the cabin, and calm enough for children to play. Before selecting this property, here are some things you should know. The driveway to the cabin is at least a mile long, steep with rutted gravel, some brush will touch your car, and has two locked gates you will need to get out of your car to open and close. If you drive a nice car or one that is low to the ground this is not your cabin. After the mile gravel drive, the cabin is less than 100 yards and visible from old Hwy 16. Stop at the grocery store on your way in. Closest is FoodLion in Millers Creek, 25 min travel time. If you plan to go to Boone (or anywhere else) it is at least a 40 min drive. If you plan on doing anything away from the cabin this is probably not your place. The cabin is very small and noisy. We managed to squeeze in our children, but don't expect privacy, and there is no insulation or sound barrier between the floors. There is a sewer/septic pump you will need to turn on. It does not have sufficient capacity to support showers for 6-8 people and although a washer and dryer are listed as amenities the owner request that you not use it for your own laundry.. due to the possibiliy of sewage overflowing. There is only one small shower. Unless you are a yoga master do not plan on shaving your legs. We encountered an insect problem. We put bananas on the counter and hundreds of ants came from everywhere within an hour. Everything should be sealed in ziplock bags or put in the fridge. When we arrived there was trash in the firepit, but the cabin was otherwise in good order. There are only a few towels and the sheets do not fit all the beds but there were enough flat sheets to make do. We had to leave early in the morning on our last day and did not wash the linen. We did complete an exhaustive check-out list, vacumed, cleaned the cabin, and even the firepit leaving the property ready for the next guest. The owner does offer cleaning at a reasonable rate, and I expected to have a reduction in the deposit for cleaning linen bundled by the washer, but we were deducted was 8 times what the reasonable amount. I requested an explanation from the owner 10 days ago and have not received a response. The other items I can forgive, but not shorting the deposit with no explanation.
Owner response:Hello Sam, We hope you received our immediate response (5 days after your departure) by email. We apologize that your experience at our cabin was not satisfactory in your terms. We have made adjustments and improvements based on your suggestions hoping it will help future guests enjoy their stay. Additional towels and sheets have been placed for guests and we have also installed a new pumping system. Our house manager, unfortunately, did find the cabin after your departure quite a mess and definitely not ready for the next immediate guest despite your review. It becomes very difficult for us to prepare the necessary cleaning of the cabin in time before the next guest arrives when it has been left undone and cleaning service has not been elected. $120 (our usual cleaning service fee) was reasonably deducted from your deposit. Cleaning service allows guests to have the option of relaxing the day of their departure, and allows us to notify our housekeepers that cleaning will be needed (so that the appropriate amount of supplies and personnel are ready after you depart). We highly recommend electing cleaning service for those who would like this option. Our cabin is small and cozy, and great for those looking to get away to spend time with their loved ones. Six persons is the maximum comfortable amount to have, and we do not recommend having parties greater than that amount. We do allow guests to use the washer/dryer under reasonable/logical conditions, but hope we can keep the cabin cost-effective/enjoyable for others as well. The cabin is definitely rural, but not far from nearby attractions at all. Our family travels to Boone every visit (35 mins away), and have been to the Blue Ridge Parkway (15 mins), Grand Father Mountain (1.5 hr), Scott Kerr Lake (30 mins), Blowing Rock (1 hr), and Appalachian Ski Resort (40 mins away). Wilkesboro is the place to grab groceries and all necessities (25 min away). We continue looking forward to improving our little riverfront cabin, and do appreciate your review.

In almost 2 months our good friend Caroline is getting married (woah!!) and we – her bridesmaids & other close friends – came up to celebrate her and her fiancé. This was exactly the weekend she wanted! We love this quaint cabin with its awesome spiral staircase! It had snowed a little a few days before so the drive up here was a little hairy! One of our friends couldn’t get out the 2nd morning, but it added to the fun and excitement! We had a blast exploring the creek and the bride-to-be’s sister even washed her hair in it! All in all we had a fantastic girls weekend! We had a wonderful time. The cabin is charming. We loved the waterfall and easy acess to the water. The sound of the waterfall is so peaceful. It is a great place to slow down and let your soul renew itself. We were so glad to find a nice place that is pet friendly. Our dog loved it.We also enjoyed the fire pit and the nice outside table next to it. It is very nice that you have firewood for everyone. Most folks aren't able to transport wood and it was great to be able to build a fire at night. We will be back. Thanks so much for sharing your home.
Owner response:Thank you Amy for your kind remarks. We are glad that you were able to re-vitalize and re-energize yourself during your stay. We like to make our cabin warm, open, and comfortable to our guests and we appreciate your feedback. We definitely enjoy the outdoor firepit when it is safe to operate and someone carefully maintains it. We hope to see you again shortly, and perhaps in a different season when you can have an entirely different adventure! Save us in your books when you want to return to another peaceful getaway. Thank you again and Best wishes!

Dear Yen and Thi, This is our second year at the cabin. Same as last year, this is just what we needed!! This is a great place to meditate and to be in touch with God! The peace and serenity of this place is just awesome! Indescribable! One would have to experience it for themselves to appreciate the beauty of nature and the magnitude of God’s creation! Its such a nice change from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.. just hanging out by the waterfall, playing in the creek, and the wonderful opportunity of not having to follow a “routine”! The weather has been great! Our dogs love it as much as we do, too. Thank you for sharing your ‘paradise’ with all who are blessed to dwell here. The ‘gate greeters’ (Mutt & Jeff) are friendly goofs, however they will jump up on your vehicle if there are dogs aboard that ‘yup’ @ them. They’re easily ‘shooed’ away. Thanks again!! For a wonderful stay!!

We had a great time at this beautiful property. Everything you need is provided, just bring cloths and food, and maybe some fishing tackle. I loved being able to use my laptop at the river while watching the grandkids play in the water. I got some really great shots with the webcam. Got to love free wifi. We were ready for sleep in the comfy cabin after spending the day exploring the river and surrounding property. The grandkids loved the Direct TV and DVD player when we came in at night. A large gas grill is provided on the hugh deck. We enjoyed some great steaks on the back deck where a large table and chairs is provided. Loved sitting in the rocking chairs and watching the river. The waterfall is beautiful and quite loud. If you are into cooking a very well equiped kitchen will have everything you need and then some. You can believe everything in the listing for this property. It was clean and everything you need is there. The owner is very helpful and answered emails promptly. We just had a wonderful time and plan on going back next year.
Owner response:Thank you for your wonderful comments, Judy! We will definitely look forward to having you visit our wonderful home again next time. We want to make sure our guests are well equipped with everything they need to have an enjoyable experience and time at what we think is one of the best places to stay in North Carolina - a real wood log cabin right next to a running river. We are definitely going to consider a lot of your comments the next time we are able to stay at the cabin - High-speed Wireless Internet right next to the river sounds amazing! Thank you again and Warmest wishes to you and your family.

We wish we could take your wonderful waterfall home with us! Last year we went to a cabin and it rained the entire time so the nice weather was nice to get. Very quiet and peaceful for relaxation. After our car problem on the mountain road. We need some calmness! The two ‘gate keepers’ wanted to crawl into the car with us! I have done some painting, as you can see and photography. We are sorry, but we don’t like the couch! Can’t get it to go up straight and not enough room to let it out as a bed. Still an enjoyable trip and thanks for keeping rates affordable. Aug 26, 2010

I would recommend this cabin to anyone wanting to get-away from the hustle and bustle. The property surrounding the cabin is spectacular and the rental rates are very affordable considering all of the amenities offered. Upon our arrival a small deer ran in front of our car and led us up to the cabin. The two little "watch dogs" at the gate were a big hit with our son. The brown one insisted on leading us half-way up the mountain each day. btw...the road up to the cabin is a little tricky to maneuver during a heavy rain. The river must be full of fish because I caught a small trout without even trying. The cabin had everything we needed for our mini-vacation. Our stay would have been perfect if...my husband hadn't broken his arm the day before our vacation started. He spent most of his time on the porch enjoying the gorgeous views. We'd love to stay again! Thank you Yen for sharing your place.
Owner response:We appreciate your warm comments! We definitely smiled when you mentioned the deer and dogs insisting to lead guests to the cabin. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you return sometime in the near future!

We have had a great week here at your beautiful cabin. The butterflies are beautiful. We took many pictures of this area. We have enjoyed the trails, and driveway, the guys even went swimming in the deep areas of the creek. The sunlight in the forest area is unbelievable. Sitting on the porch with sisters and nephews, has been something we all needed. We’ve made many memories, enjoyed many laughs, and hugs. The guys caught a ‘large’ snapping turtle on a small hook, it was much harder to set free than it was to catch it! Peace and quiet! We all needed. Many thanks, and God Bless always.

Thanks for making this a pet-friendly cabin as our kids (Jack Russell Terriers) need a vacation too! The weather was rainy & overcast. However that did not put a damper on our stay. The walks were great and sitting on the porch or by the creek was relaxing. We saw a wild turkey, chicks and lots of butterflies!! :) We did the wine tour and sampled many good North Carolina wines. We love it here so much we went to look for property – who knows.. we will tell our friends about this special place and we will be back.

If you want to get away from stress, traffic & people this is the place for you. Cabin is set up on a mountain by a fresh water creek with several little waterfalls! Cabin was very clean and provided the environment to hike, fish or relax. Our Jack Russells even loved relaxing on the porch believe it or not. We also did the Vineyards of Swan Creek Wine Trail and that was great! North Carolina has some good wines. Enjoyed the cabin so much we didn't get to visit other areas but will next time. We will be back again for sure! We now want to look for property up there too! Thanks for opening your home to us and dealing with all our questions prior to our vacation! Great place we will recommend it to our friends & family. Once they see the pictures, they will want to come.

(Allow lots of time for towels to dry). Ate at Fire Mountain in Wilkesboro. The food was good + inexpensive. (Lunch M-F $5.29, Lunch Sat-Sun $7.29, Dinner Su-Sa $9.99, Drinks $1.99 & Breakfast Buffet Sat/Sun $4.99) It is like Golden Corral, Ryans, etc. Dogs at 1st gate are friendly. Thank you so much, Yen and family, for sharing this awesome place with us. The cabin was comfortable and very well-equipped . . . from the kitchen right down to cane poles for catching trout in the creek (though we brought our own poles). Our favorite part however, was the setting. We absolutely loved spending hours and hours by and in the creek next to our own personal waterfall. The sound of that waterfall and the rushing water of the creek were what we fell asleep to every night, and the first thing we heard every morning. We came here to relax and unwind and that we did! There was much to explore and do right there at the cabin. Our 12 year old son and his friend had the time of their lives, as did we, The surrounding countryside was beautiful, and there were many interesting places to visit and explore in close proximity to the cabin. Thanks also for letting us bring our dog along . . . the old girl loved it, too! We were all sorry to leave when the time came, and would love to come back for another stay in this beautiful place!

Though a bit nervous driving up the driveway :) Once we arrived, it was obvious why you chose this spot. Gary and my father were so excited to get in the stream and “pretend” to fly fish. Even going so far as to buy waders and a small fly rod, it made wonderful photos! My girls loved the adventure of the outdoors. Dear Yen & Thi, Thank you so much for sharing your lovely cabin - It was wonderful to find such a nice place that is DOG-FRIENDLY! The road up to the cabin was a perfect place to take my black lab Mishka on long peaceful walks in the woods. The fall colors were beautiful, the sound of the waterfall is so relaxing, and the other dogs at the 1st gate were so sweet and friendly. The cabin is so comfortable and we felt that it was easy to settle right in. It also rained quite a bit during our visit; so some outdoor activities were switched out for fun trips to nearby towns - went to Jefferson, Wilkesboro (yummy Cuban coffee!!) and Boone. Mishka says woof woof and we both say thank you again and we hope to make this an annual event!

We really enjoyed our time at the cabin. It is great cabin in a great setting, on a beautiful stream. We did not really expect to catch much since it had been several months since the last stocking of the creek. We didn’t catch any stockers, but we were surprised to catch a very healthy 18 inch brown trout in the pool next to the cabin on our first day. Over the next few days, we caught some 2-10 inch rainbows and browns that appeared to be stream bred fish - a nice surprise. We put them all back, so they're still there waiting for you.

Great cabin ~ treacherous road! Enjoyed the solitude & the most magnificent scenery of all our rental experiences. New dog, Lena, learned a lot about nature ~ long days of play + walks, great suppers, peaceful rest - just like us~

What a perfect get-a-way spot. The peace and quiet was Heavenly. We never grew tired of sitting by the river, painting, reading, meditating, or just doing nothing. Our two dogs enjoyed themselves and behaved well until they ran across two baby skunks!! Thank goodness for the outside hose and a cleaning formula found on the internet, they cleaned up ok. A beautiful spot! Thanks

Yen, This place is as beautiful and relaxing as you describe. We had such a wonderful, fulfilling and relaxing time. The first night we slept with the windows closed, but the rest of our vacation they were open with the wonderful cool night air and the sound of the river and waterfall that was so close. Thank you for opening up your cabin and I know that we will be back.

What a fantastic find! I ended up coming by myself to get away from the daily grind and spend some time seeking God and his purposes for me. I am a die hard wildlife lover, fisherman, and animal lover. On my visit, I saw two female turkeys w/ chicks, deer, a turtle, and of course the two dogs at the entrance. Not sure who the dogs belong to, but they are friendly enough and liked to follow me to the top of the ridge. In addition, I caught 8 trout in vasious streams closeby one being 20". Yes, I said twenty inches and at least 3lbs. What a treat! For those who like to explore and may want to see the parkway, I have a tip. Turn right on old 16 and follow North. This road turns to gravel and goes all the way to the parkway where there is a charming trading post w/ crafts, snacks, and coffee. Follow pkwy to Doughton Park (right) and there is a restaurant!

First, I wanted to thank Yen + Thi so much for sharing their beautiful cabin with us. The cabin + the creek are beautiful + very peaceful. The first 2 days were sunny + beautiful - but then our 'luck' changed. It rained + poured for 4 straight days. We only have a 4-cylinder car + once the dirt road to the cabin was so wet, we had a very hard time getting back up to the cabin so we had to stay put. The surrounding towns were nice but very expensive with there being 5 of us. We just couldn't afford to do any activities. Tipton's however is a great place to eat + very affordable!! Again we thank Yen + Thi + the cabin itself is great but the rain really put a damper on our vacation. We are leaving a day early to go back home. Hopefully, the rain will leave too :) Thanks again Yen + Thi. You have a beautiful place!!

We’ve had a great time at the cabin. The first day we settled in, explored the cabin and the river, and had a campfire. The next day we went hiking at Kerr Scott Reservoir, then sailed our little boat. Friday we drove the Blue Ridge Parkway and hiked to Cascade Falls. Today we will enjoy opening day Fly Fishing in your river, and another lucky spot or two nearby, then after checking out will spend the rest of the day at Stone Mountain, more fly fishing, hiking, and picnicking. What a good trip! Thanks!
