50 acres of fun and exploring with the most amazing views in the smokies. When it comes to outdoor fun we have it! WILD TURKEY AND WHITE TAIL DEER are everywhere. Endless hiking on the 50 acres with a small pond and a stream. Across the street from our property is the Cherokee national forest where you can ride your horse or hike for endless miles. The Appalachian Trail is accessible from the forest. I have personally walked from our home to the trail and on up towards Roan Mountain. The forest is loaded with waterfalls and a very popular destination for several of the locals to hike and jump from the falls off the elk river (you can do a YouTube search for compression falls or twisted falls). Another popular destination is the Bristol NASCAR races which is about 1 hour away.
Sailing and power boating on Watauga Lake with 104 miles of shoreline, covering 34,200 acres is 15 minutes from the property. Beech mountain a great skiing area is about 15 min. depending on your destination.
Banner Elk is 20 mins away loaded with great restaurants and fun things to do. The Blue Ridge Parkway winds its way through the area providing the most scenic views in the Appalachian Mountains with no billboards or stoplights.
Golfing opportunities abound on well over a dozen mountain courses, half of which are public or semi-private. Hiking is plentiful on hundreds of miles of trails, from easy to challenging, including the Appalachian Trail.
Fly Fishing along the Elk and Watauga Rivers is among the best in the eastern United States. Grandfather Mountain, one of the most identifiable peaks in the region is a World Biosphere site featuring unique rock formations, a mile high swinging bridge and abundant wildlife.
Tweetsie Railroad is a family fun park geared to young children featuring the historic East Tennessee and Western North Carolina Rail Road, better known as “Tweetsie.”
Gem Mining is a popular pastime for youngsters, and serious rock hounds alike. Spruce Pine is the location of a Native-American gem shop with rare minerals and native American artifacts that date from antiquity. Whitewater rafting, kayaking and tubing are available on numerous rivers with several professional outfitters providing guided trips.
Rock Climbing and caving can be enjoyed year round on your own or through one of the local outfitters. Horseback trail riding and boarding for horses can be found throughout the area.
Snow Skiing and Snow Boarding are available at the area’s three ski resorts and cross country skiing is a favorite on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
4 wheel drive is recommended (although rarely needed) for winter access.

DO NOT be afraid of the location of this house, it really is not that hard to get to. I would suggest 4 wheel drive if winter weather is involved. The house is 5 star across the board, the views are 5 star in every direction, the wild life is unreal. We had 4 couples for the weekend and went skiing one day (only 25 minutes to Sugar and Beech) and the next day just enjoyed the entire house and the views and relaxed. No cell phone service is something everyone should experience a few times a year. Internet service is great and keeps you in touch if needed. We enjoyed the place so much that we did not even turn on the TV once. Can't wait to return for a summer weekend.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

Outstanding accommodations for a family or large group get away. Luxurious home with everything you could possibly want or need except cell service… which really wasn’t missed. Wifi was great for those that can’t unplug. The property and views are truly amazing, you are definitely remote. Owner’s directions were perfect and definitely needed when arriving late. They had snow the evening before we arrived, 4-wheel drive is a must in winter. We came prepared with plenty of food and drink for all. We ventured out one day to ski at Beech, great trip! Kitchen was a cook’s dream, well stocked and everything was high end. Master bedroom and bath on first floor were private and wonderful. Bedrooms and den upstairs gave us plenty of space to spread out. Front porch was a great place for that first cup of coffee in the morning. We all enjoyed the fire pit and sledding down the front yard/mountain top. The owner was extremely helpful throughout the entire process. The whole experience was wonderful. As we pulled out the kids were already planning the next trip… we definitely will be back!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

We just returned from a long weekend at this property. The house is just as shown: very high end, the beds were comfortable, the kitchen well stocked and all was very clean. The view is to die for out all the West facing windows and off the porch. There are comfortable rocking chairs to sit in and soak up the scenery. You cannot see another house for miles. We hiked around the property to the small waterfall and fire pit. It was great with small kids to just walk off the porch into the forest. It felt like a park. Hints for travelers: A long stretch of the road is narrow uphill gravel. My husband was nervous in our minivan about getting stuck but it never did. We had dry weather. I think you'd need 4 wheel drive during the winter. It's also in a remote area and I'd highly advise arriving during daylight hours. Bring a map and it was essential for us to have a satellite based GPS because about 10 miles away we lost cell reception and phone maps were useless. The owner provides detailed directions if you go through Boone but we came up the back way from Charlotte and getting there was interesting. Boy are we glad we did because it was awesome but be prepared to navigate. It's also a trek to the nearest grocery store (25 mins of curvy tight roads.) I wish I'd come fully stocked so I never needed to leave the property. I forgot to bring bar soap for bathing. FYI there are no toiletries or a hair dryer provided. We did have a starter pack of dish soap and trash bags. There is a huge fridge and deep chest freezer so you have lots of space to store food. The oven with grill and griddle was great for cooking. There's also a BBQ by the outdoor table now. The listing says 5 bedrooms but one is a craft room with an inflatable bed. This wasn't a problem for us, we just doubled up kids on the bunk beds but may be if you are traveling with adults expecting their own room. There is a lovely master on the main floor. Upstairs is a room with a queen, a room with a twin bed, a room with twin bunk bed and the craft room with the air mattress. There is also a comfy sofa and loveseat with a TV upstairs as well as the sectional on the main floor living room. We loved our stay and hope to return. Thanks for sharing your lovely home with us.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children.

WOW! What an incredible oasis in the mountains. Arrival begins with a somewhat bumpy ride into the property, but a treasure awaits you on the other side. This mountain home is beautifully decorated and very comfortable with couches enough for everyone to take a nap. The kitchen is a baker’s dream with every conceivable need met. Literally, it is better stocked than my own home. What fun! The early morning reminded me of how the BLUE Ridge Mountains got their name. Before the sun hits all the mountain ridges, they are a beautiful foggy grayish blue color. The fluffy white fog floats gently in and around the hills. The second cup coffee/tea, around 7:30am for us, brought lots of rabbits and surprise, a doe and buck couple. They were obviously young and frolicked on the hillside for a good 5 minutes before they realized they had company. It was fantastic. Having 4 kids from age 8 to 15, we went on numerous hikes around the property as well as Elk River Park and fishing as well. We also went down into Banner Elk, a scenic 20ish minutes down the mountain, on Thursday night for Music in the Park. You really get the flavor of local music artists and local food fare as many vendors come out to feed the crowd. Although there are many ½ and full day trips nearby (Grandfather Mountain, Linville Caverns and Falls, Roan Mt., Virginia Creeper Trail, West Jefferson canoeing and kayaking down the New River), I always looked forward to the peace and quiet that awaited back home. The huge soaking tub was an oasis all its own helping to ease your tired muscles. The shower has a surprise all its own too! Rollout windows so you can really enjoy the sounds of nature while you shower. Don’t worry, they can stay closed for those less adventurous. The outdoor dining area was really fun alongside the new gas grill and fire pit for roasting smores after dinner. I could go on and on about the amenities this mountain chalet offers. Suffice it to say, we had a wonderfully relaxing vacation. Thanks so much Adam for sharing your retreat with us.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

I can't say enough good things about this property. From the moment I inquired about it the owner gave me a quick response, and helpful information to make a good decision for me and my family. THe house is beautiful and very well kept. Although it is a little tricky to find in the dark it is well worth the drive. The view is amazing and there are plenty of trails and small waterfalls to hike to. Bring all the food and things you need with you and you never have to even leave the property. It is like being on a mountain of your own. My children had an amazing time there and are already asking to come back. The whole experience was great from beginning to end!! We will definitely be back to rent this house again!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.
