This cabin was an absolute dream for a writer and birdwatcher like me, who wanted two weeks of late-summer/early fall solitude to think and work and read. I could not have been happier. I sat outside with my laptop and books, shaded by the pine trees, and all I heard was the breeze, the croaks of the resident blue heron, the wingbeats of the egret flock, and the call of the sharpshinned hawk. I was close enough to nature to learn the habits of the resident birds, and far back from the busy road. No lawn, nor nearby lawns, so no roar and stench of lawnmowers to disturb the peace and pollute and warm the earth! And yet I was minutes by bike from the bay, beach, famous wooded bridge, and the better aspects of civilization, like good restaurants, independent bookstore, library, prepared food and seafood, and a decent supermarket and liquor store. But be aware that if you want a hot-tub and a sauna in a bathroom the size of football field, king-size rotating bed, and designer furniture, you will not get it here. The cabin is definitely small and humble unlike most other Duxbury houses, which is also why it is such a find! The outside is rustic and unpretentious, for sure, but inside, it is fully renovated and cleverly designed to create a sense of airiness and space with a ceiling that follows the A-frame lines of the roof, a balcony that opens up the simple upstairs bedroom, a white ceramic-tile kitchen floor, big white enamel sink, reliable gas oven and a butcher block island workspace that is all connected to the small, but comfortable living room with t.v. and wifi connection. The downstairs bedroom is just big enough to fit the full-size bed and dresser, but you can enlarge it by opening French doors into the living room kitchen area. All beds are comfortable – real mattresses, not futons – and the plumbing was reliable, too. The owner lives right nearby but was never intrusive, was just as one would wish: available, respectful, friendly and accommodating. There is no fenced in area, but I was able to improvise, and was grateful for the owner’s welcome of my small dog, so I could have my pal there, too. It’s a simple little gem in one of the most beautiful communities in coastal Massachusetts.

Owner response: Thank you for your comments. We make changes based on feedback from our tenants to insure customer satisfaction. The setting is rustic. Renovations were recently done, including replacing downstairs rug with hardwood flooring. We have allowed tenants the option of cleaning the interior themselves; given your comments, we will no longer allow that option and a professional cleaning fee will be part of future bookings.
