Hi Martijn, Many thanks for the use of your penthouse while we were in Amsterdam. It made the stay so much better than a hotel. Your apartment is wonderful and spacious, with lots of light. It was also very convenient to the centre of the city, grocery shopping, restaurants and public transportation. We felt very much at home there. We will not hesitate to recommend it to friends.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

It was a pleasure dealing with Martijn who responded to our emails very quickly. Upon our arrival Nat met us to show us around and answer any questions that we had. Martijn took the time and effort to come and see us the next day to make sure we were happy and everything was ok. The apartment was perfect for us being a middle aged couple, no stairs to climb as there was a lift which is great when you have luggage. It was light and airy, very quiet at night although it is on a main road, so a good nights sleep was had. Bed comfortable. The kitchen was very well equipped and Martijn had left us a basket of goodies including a bottle of wine. It had all the equipment needed to cook your meals if you wanted to. A very well stocked supermarket is just around the corner and lots of restaurants, cafe very close by. The apartment was lovely and clean and had lots of storage space for clothes etc. Wifi was a bonus. The apartment is very well situated for all the attractions, museums, zoo, theatres, markets etc. easy to walk everywhere, but the Metro and bus stop are just down the road. We had a perfect stay in the apartment and would definitely recommend to friends and relatives. If we return to Amsterdam in the next few years we will be contacting Martijn again.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

This lovely apartment was everything promised in the listing - beautiful, and contemporary with all conveniences. The owner, Martijn, was helpful, available and friendly from our arrival to our departure. We were in Amsterdam during a holiday period, and the penthouse was a peaceful oasis from the happy clamor of the streets. It has easy access to all tourist amenities. We were there to visit museums, and were very pleased to return home at the end of each busy day.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Our five day stay in the Penthouse was absolutely wonderful. We had a market around the corner, restaurants, museums, the flea market, etc. all within easy walking distance. The amenities of the Penthouse were great particularly having a washer and dryer and dish washer. The apartment was open with lots of light. The bed was very comfortable. Our Host was most accommodating. He helped us with directions and made concessions that others would not have made. I would recommend this lovely place to anyone wanting to spend time in Amsterdam. Our many thanks to our Host who we will long remember.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

We have used VRBO many times both in Europe and the States...this was by far the most satisfying experience. Martijn was extremely helpful when we booked the apartment and also upon our arrival. It was nice to have the owner meet us (which is unusual) and show/explain the apartment and appliances. The apartment is as pictured, clean, well appointed and spacious. The area was convenient to everything we wanted to see and do. Grocery store, wine store and restaurants within five minutes. Museums walking distance or a short tram ride away When we booked the apartment we hadn't realized we would be in Amsterdam for the King's investiture (what a party), Rememberance Day and Liberation Day. That was an added bonus. Thank you Martjin for printing out our tickets for the Andre Rieu Concert. We would like to confirm all the positives listed by previous reviewers and to add that the apartment more than met the high expectations they create. It is large, light-filled, very livable, and in a perfect location both for everyday living and for whatever one might want (or have) to do in Amsterdam, whether on a short or a long stay. Trams 9 & 14 were rerouted during our visit (for how long we don’t know), but having the subway so close we did not miss them, especially as so much we wanted to do was within walking distance. In the apartment itself, the kitchen works very well (allowing a cook to be as ambitious as he or she wants to be), the study provides excellent workspace (and/or out-of-the-way storage), the bedroom is spacious and the bed very comfortable, the living and dining areas are welcoming, and the outside deck is an urban oasis. A full-size Albert Heijn supermarket is very close by, another supermarket (Marqt) is just across the Amstel, and there are excellent restaurants close at hand in every direction (among those we enjoyed were Olijfje, just downstairs, and Greetje’s and Breitner, each no more than a 10 minute walk). Finally, like other reviewers, we very much appreciated Martijn’s attention and responsiveness. It’s a bit paradoxical to say that when we travel, we want to feel at home, but that’s exactly how we felt during our two weeks in Amsterdam.Did you find this review helpful? I have been in Amsterdam many times and I can tell that it's very hard to find a place that is central and charming, but also has all the modern comfort, offers plenty of space and light and is affordable. But this time I was lucky to find exactly that! I felt really at home in this apartment. It's stylish, full of light with lots of windows on three sides, it has all the equipment one can think of, it's made for living and not for "renting out", like so many others, and it makes a great difference! It also has a beautiful terrace that could become your living room whenever the sun is shining. And it's on the upper (5th) floor, but you don't have to climb the famous and dreaded "Amsterdam stairs", which can be quite an adventure and might also prevent you from bringing any luggage with you as well as from drinking (and eating) too much! But this modern house has got a full size elevator as well as a full size staircase! Believe me, this is rare enough in Amsterdam. Another great side of this apartment, and quite important as well - the owner is the nicest and the most helpful person you can imagine. Whenever I needed something or had questions, he was always very quick to answer and to help. It was a pleasure meeting him. Now the location: it's as central as you can wish. You can easily walk to nearly every place worth seeing from there, and Amsterdam is great for walking and well worth seeing all over! I couldn't have been happier with my choice. The only thing there I might wish for - is to come back some day! Thanks so much, Martijn!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We rented Martijn's apartment as a family of 3 of which one is a 8 month old baby. Martijn personally greeted us upon arrival. The apartment is very well located in downtown Amsterdam, walking distance to Dam, Rembrandt and Waterloo square, Supermarket is around the corner. The apartment has a parking garage under the building which we used for our rental car. Upon entering the apartment we thought that the apartment looked bigger and lighter then what the photos do justice. It is a very well maintained and clean apartment, fully furnished with all appliances and kitchen-ware needed for a perfect stay in Amsterdam and the apartment is as cosy as the pictures show. We would certainly recommend this apartment to others but we also would rent this apartment again when we are back in Amsterdam.Recommended for: People with disabilities, families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

My husband and I used VRBO for the first time on our recent trip to Amsterdam and very glad we did. The owner, Martijn, was very accommodating and communicative during the rental process and then later upon arrival in Amsterdam. Our flight arrived earlier than the check-in time but Martijn let us come directly to the apartment, which was very nice after a long flight from the U.S. The apartment was exactly as the listing described and then some...beautiful, modern, and very clean. Martijn prepared a welcome basket that included wine, snacks, and breakfast items, and provided complimentary coffee. The washer/dryer in the apartment was essential for packing light. The location was good and close to the Waterlooplein metro stop which was very useful in getting to the Centrale train station for the next leg of our trip to Brussels. Overall, a great experience and wonderful place to stay for 4 nights in Amsterdam!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
