Napa Valley Hideaway: Quiet Setting in St. Helena
- Minimum stay:3 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
We offer a beautiful, custom-designed home conveniently situated just four blocks from Saint Helena’s Main Street. Drawing on our professional skills as an architect and artist, respectively; we have enhanced the original structure built in 1998 with custom additions, including a living room with a wood-burning fireplace, and a private guest cottage next door to the main house. All spaces have been crafted with durable and aesthetically interesting materials, such as stained-concrete floors, galvanized metal finishes, stucco and rustic wood beams. Our design choices also reflect a commitment to sustainable living. Thick stucco walls and a reflective metal roof help to keep temperatures cool without AC, and recycled barn doors and other building materials add distinctive touches throughout. Furnishings include one-of-a-kind finds, such as the beautifully restored bamboo living room set, as well as pieces that have been passed down through family. Additionally, this spacious, yet cozy living room features French doors that extend the indoor space outdoors; has high ceilings and a grand piano.
Outdoor spaces include a sunny, private yard in front with a wonderful outdoor dining area; while off of the living room cool, shady terraced areas invite you to relax on comfortable lounge chairs. A separate dining room is adjacent to the kitchen, which is outfitted with a Thermadore range and hood, Sub Zero appliances and a dishwasher. A bedroom with a king bed in a french sleigh bed frame, next to the first floor bath, and a laundry room with a washer and dryer, complete the first floor.
The second floor master bedroom has a cal king bed, vaulted ceiling and ceiling fan. Wake up to morning birdsong and sun pouring through a window with antique-paned glass and an old key hole, from its’ former life as a door. A spacious open loft has a full bed in an antique bed frame sharing this floor with the master bedroom, a bath and small deck. All beds have down comforters and feather pillows. All baths have custom ceramic-tiled showers only.
A studio cottage room has a private entrance, queen bed, bathroom and high ceiling with a ceiling fan. Its separation from the main house provides a completely separate sleeping space.

We so enjoyed our family get-together at the Napa Valley Hideaway over Memorial Day weekend. This was our first get-together in a long time and the Hideaway provided a relaxing, quiet and big enough space to accommodate our family. The weather was perfect (mid 70's F) so we were able to utilize the outdoor areas to "expand" our gathering spots. The kitchen was nicely equipped although a bit small for the number of people at the house, so we limited the kitchen to the cooks! The location is ideal - walking distance to the main street in St. Helena with a wide range of boutiques, shops, and restaurants, and a very nice gourmet market a few blocks away. We also tried several great restaurants in St. Helena - The Press, Tra Vigne, Tra Vigne Pizzeria, and Gotts. If you have a chance, we highly recommend them all! And of course the area is scattered with so many great wineries! The house has a washer and dryer which came in handy with a full house of people. Also a BBQ in the backyard...although we ate out so much we didn't use it. The cottage was small and had no closet to hang clothes but served its purpose for showering and sleeping. We look forward to our next stay at the Hideaway!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

House & location was great. Very comfortable for 3 couples. My greatest disappointment was the off & on (mostly off) internet. A $50 modem and it would have been fixed. It is so common that they recommend where you can go in town to get internet. Also a TV in the living room would help.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: Just to clarify: As stated in our listing there is complimentary wireless access. The signal, via a router, is strong in all rooms except the living room, verified today. For the record, just one guest was unable to get access here with his computer and as someone unfamiliar with the area; he called us and we gave him a list of local computer/WIFI access spots. So as a courtesy and not because it is a common problem, we put this list in our welcome letter.

My family and I (all married couples in their 30s) stayed here for four nights and loved the place. The house is right near everything in St. Helena. The modern kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans and other utensils and the stove is just great. It made making breakfast and eating in a breeze, even though with all the wonderful restaurants around we didn't eat in much. The only drawback is that one of the bedrooms is a loft, so there isn't much privacy for the people staying in that room. Otherwise it is a great place for couples and families to stay in Napa. We would definitely stay here again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

One of the nicest rental homes we've found. If we were to make one small complaint, it would be that the wi-fi does not reach into the living room for morning coffee in front of the fireplace.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and I spent 5 days here with our 3 adult children and had a great time. The house gives you great privacy and is remarkably convenient to downtown St. Helena (7 minute walk). The house was very clean and the grounds were well kept. The cottage space was a nice retreat with its own bed and bath. Overall, a great place to use as home base for exploring all that Napa and Sonoma have to offer.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Napa Valley Hideaway is a perfect retreat in a wonderful location. You can walk to Main St in St. Helena in a couple of minutes but its location is quite secluded down a private lane off a side street. The layout of the home is unique, allowing for privacy if you have a larger party. The furnishings are comfortable and tasteful and the beds very comfortable. The garden was a knockout and provides a wonderful private spot for meals, weather permitting. The only drawback is that the kitchen is not stocked with any cooking or baking essentials. Homes we have visited in the past usually have salt, pepper, tea bags, sugar and various herbs left over from prior occupants. There was none to be found. There were also limited eating utensils. However, there were plenty of pots, pans etc. Also, there were no wine country guides, restaurant menus or local tourist info compiled for visitors. None of this was major, though, just surprising when compared to other places we have stayed. It certainly did not affect our enjoyment of the place and I still highly recommend it.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

The house was in a great location in St. Helena. We were able to walk to town. Very eclectic neighborhood.!!. Somebody has a barking dog at 6am several mornings. It was clean. Great beds. I would have appreciated having a TV with cable in the living room. I watch morning and evening news.Recommended for: Families with young children, sightseeing.

About the owner: Fifteen years ago we came across a 150-year-old vacant lot hidden in the middle of a residential block in Saint Helena. We jumped at the chance to live there, and designed and built this contemporary home with a nod to the iconic western storefront with metal roofs and siding one sees around town. Over the years, we have enjoyed living in Saint Helena where we can walk to vineyards, specialty food and wine stores, bakery & coffee shops, farmers market, great restaurants, cinema, luxury shopping, tennis & bocce courts and a health spa with a pool. Now that our children have grown and it’s just the two of us, we spend most of our time traveling or living at our other home in Polson, Montana.
