Our stay at this beautiful vacation home was absolutely wonderful! We spent the days on the water in the canoe and the evenings were spent making lazy dinners and hanging out in the hot tub! The house is very roomy and nicely decorated! We thought the pics we saw online didn't begin to show how nice the house is! The owner warned us about the steep climb to the water, but we had no problems. Thanks for a great time and for keeping the cabin affordable! We definitely want to return next year!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Thanks so much! I loved your e-mail and I am glad you enjoyed the fishing from the lower dock - we don't fish but many of the guests have caught a lot of fish! The "studio" guest house is now empty, and right now people are storing things there but you can always throw a sleeping bag in there - it has a bathroom and a view! I love having guests like you!

We so enjoyed our time at Lake Barkley. The area is very quiet and private, perfect for walks and having what we call 'family lockdown time' (you know time where the kids interact with you rather than their phones???). We had fun going 'junk' shopping in Cadiz. We all LOVED the kayaks and canoe. We also very much enjoyed exploring the absolutely beautiful art collection in the home. Definitely worth the money! Great value.Recommended for: Pet owners, families with teenagers.

stayed here august 2012. wife and i and two grandkids. all had a great time. stayed seven days and only left the house twice, because we were having too much fun to go looking at tourist sites. loved the easy access to the lake. loved the canoe and two kayaks. grandson spent hours catching bluegills from our own dock. found the house to be very comfortable and beautifully decorated. the photos on the website seem accurate though i would say they don't do justice to this spacious, well maintained home.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners, age 55+, families with young children.

We stayed at this property for my husband's birthday. It was a terrible disappointment. The house was not clean and my mother-in-law spent the first day just cleaning. They have cob webs everywhere and there are small bugs all over especially in the bathrooms. The furnishings are outdated and the beds do not sleep well especially the beds downstairs. There is no TN service - just DVDs. There is also no internet and phone service is terrible. There is no real "guest house" here either. The property is not well maintained and the listing does not represent the condition or the type of property (this is a 1 bedroom really). i would not stay here again.Owner response: I am surprised at the criticism - when I called and talked to the husband he said they loved the property and wanted to know the sale price. The single beds downstairs were purchased days before their visit and the queen beds are two years old, one with a handmade quilt. The house has contemporary furniture, much of it from Ikea, and most of it is about 4 years old. There is an extensive original art collection there. There was no tv cable there but it since has been installed. Perhaps I should have tried harder with the cleaning - I have since hired a new cleaning service and hope it works much better. The neighbors said the doors were left open for the two dogs and I assume the bugs came in then. I was very surprised. When the cleaning service came in they said there was garbage on the floor in the kitchen and many small bugs in the house. I contacted these people and apologized and offered them a free weekend but have had no response. A flower box was demolished probably by mistake and the key was not returned. I would appreciate it if people have dogs they vacumn the dog hair. There was a great deal of dog hair after they left. This is a beautiful property. I will do my utmost to make it clean and enjoyable.
