Shady Glen (Quiet Log Cabin, Nestled in the Pines)
- Minimum stay:Contact owner
- Internet:No
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Spacious 840 sq. ft. log cabin with large bedroom loft near Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park. The forest belt of the western Sierra Nevada begins here and extends upward into the mature giant Sequoia groves and the cool realms of red fir and lodgepole pine. Stay beneath the canopies of majestic ponderosa pines in the mild climate of the Pinehurst area. This location provides seclusion and privacy with a feel of living in the forest, and the property includes a seasonal creek. The mountain environment is extended indoors with furnishing of wood and stone themes. The log walls and steeply pitched roof of this cabin blend perfectly with the surroundings.
While sitting on the outdoor deck, you will be surrounded by mature trees and have a view toward the creek bottom, habitat for numerous wild birds including Stellars jay and acorn woodpecker. A short walk on the creekside trail provides blackberry picking opportunities, or sit under the sprawling canopy of the mature Valley Oak and listen to the water.

This was a great place, a great deal, and great location. The cabin was open, warm and welcoming from the moment we stepped in. We had a couple of hot days, but the evening breeze cooled everything down nicely. The large deck was wonderful for morning coffee and evening relaxing. The drive to the Kings/Sequoia entrance was only 15 minutes away, which was wonderful. The owner was extremely helpful, and gracious. It was our first vacation with our almost 2 year old Terrior mix, and the fact that the cabin was in it's own little glen allowed him to have a little supervised freedom. We look forward to taking another vacation in this cabin, and would highly recommend it to anyone interested and a very peaceful and quiet home away from home.Recommended for: Pet owners, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

This cabin was an amazing find. Myself, my wife, and our dog visited from 5/7/13-5/11/13. It could not have been a better trip. It rained the first two days, but we were able to enjoy the scenery, the quiet, the dvd library, and the wood burning stove. We cooked outdoors most nights using the gas grill on the deck. The kitchen is well stocked with anything you could need including spices, cooking oil, cookware, dishes, and tupperware. The bathroom has a shower and a separate bath with a large vanity. Kim keeps this place very clean and well stocked with towels and extra blankets. If there is something missing she is more than willing to accomodate you during your stay. The entrance to the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks is about a 20 minute drive from the cabin. Dogs are allowed in the National Forest only, but there are several trails they can hike with you. Our dog had a lot of trouble with the stairs in the cabin and needed our help getting up and down them from the loft area. We did not have a problem with ticks but I would recommend getting your pet on a flea and tick preventative during your stay, because of the high grass surrounding the cabin. Staying Connected: We have Verizon and were able to get service intermittently, which was helpful for finding a store and gas station. There are a few within about 20-30 minute drive, with the nearest one being in the National Forest or Clingan's Junction Grocery in Squaw Valley which supports a Valero. Otherwise, there is a slim chance you will be able to find what you're looking for at the Pinehurst lodge which is only a few minutes down the road, having a small general store inside with a VERY limited selection. If you're planning on going into the National Forest and Parks, the Kings Canyon Visitor Center and Lodgepole Visitor Center are very well stocked. They also have a wide variety of vegan and health foods but limited hours. Overall, we highly recommend this cabin for anyone who wants to feel as at-home as they can be. The price is also great and much more affordable than any hotel in the area.Recommended for: Pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our family of 4 really enjoyed a quiet get-away from the city. We loved the large windows overlooking the hillside and trees and the fact that you can't even see another house or cabin. The cabin looks brand new inside and was very clean. There are 2 beds downstairs and one in the huge upstairs loft. The kitchen was well supplied with everything we needed to cook. Kimberly, the host, was easy to talk to and gave great directions to the cabin. She made herself available by phone for anything we might have needed. Our boys enjoyed watching the squirrels, quail and turkey roam around the property. At night, we ate out on the deck, and used the fire pit for roasting smores. We also loved being so close to Grant's Grove and took advantage of being able to go on several hikes in the area over 2 days. We'd love to come back to do more exploring!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for your great review, It means so much to me that my ranters have a great time, I really try to provide everything that folks will need. If you ask for it or suggest something I try to get it, with the exception of internet and satellite tv and vedio games sorry, Kimberli

This was a great getaway! The cabin was very clean and homey. There were lots of amenities for people vacationing with toddlers. There were safety gates for the stairs, a sleeper crib, backpack, and a box of toys. The cabin was warm in late October with great views of the forest, birds and deer. It was a quick drive to the park, about 15 minutes. Kimberly was a great host. She was just a phone call away, and very helpful with anything we needed. The only negative thing I can think of was there was a bit of clutter around the yard. Other than that, we loved it, and would definitely come back again.Recommended for: Pet owners, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

We stayed for two night and enjoyed the cabin very much. It was clean and for our standards very big. Everything was in the cabin (pots, pans, towels, sheets et. but also some beer and buns in the fridge.) We wished to stayed there longer. The evenings gets very quiet, so you can go sound a sleep after a good hike in the surrounding woods, the beautiful Sequoia park and Kings canyon. The distance to Yosemite is even very good to drive. So my advise would be, stay a week or longer in this cabin. Explore from here Sequoia National Forrest, Sequioa National Park and Kings Canyon. And visit Yosimite just for a day.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

My husband and I used this cabin as base camp for a week of day hiking in Sequoia and Kings Canyon. It was an excellent choice! The cabin has been completely redone and the owner has paid attention to the big things like the windows and the deck, and also the details, all the way down to fans, robe hooks, and nightlights. The bathroom has both tub and shower and plenty of counter space. The sleeping loft is spacious and airy. The kitchen is well provisioned with pots and pans, blender, etc. Sitting on the deck watching the sun set was so pleasant that we ended up cooking most nights. If you don't want to cook, you can pick up a nice meal at the rustic Pinehurst Lodge about a mile north on 245. If you do want to cook, there is a tiny fruit and vegetable stand maybe another mile north. The owner was friendly and accommodating and was very helpful answering our questions before we selected this cabin for our vacation.Recommended for: Pet owners, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

We were lucky enough to stay at this rental in the pines on a busy holiday weekend. Was a very peaceful and quiet location to get away from the crowds. We cooked our meals in the well supplied kitchen and enjoyed eating on the deck. We saw a couple of deer and lots of birds. Lovely location with lots of privacy.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had a lovely stay at this cabin! The location was perfect. It was quiet and the property was secluded by trees. We enjoyed sitting out on the deck and watching birds and deer. Most of our days were spent hiking in Sequoia and Kings Canyon parks. As the owner told us, it was just under 20 minutes to get there. We also enjoyed coming back and cooking in the kitchen that was stocked with everything we needed. We would definitely recommend this place to others and may return again in the future.Owner response: Thank you for submiting a review, and thank you for living it so nice and clean I look forwerd to your next visit. About the owner: This cabin us built in 1956 by William Bell were he lived till he passed away, I am now the property owner and would love to see it enjoyed by those that are looking to escape the city and get back to nature, a place to unplug and reconnect with your spirit
Why the Owner Chose MiraMonte:
I am most at home in the mountains and have lived here 33 years. The Pinehurst area provides the mountain environment while being reasonably close to the cities of Visalia and Fresno. This particular property is nestled amongst the pines, cedars, and oaks and is right off the main road to Kings Canyon. Wildlife are attracted to the creek which flows through the property.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Peace, quiet, and seclusion, opportunities for walking, birding, horseback riding, and nature study. Artists (writers, painters, musician and composers) will enjoy the opportunity for introspection. Close to Dunlap (archery center) parasailing and hang gliding (Dunlap flight park) General Grant Grove of Giant Sequoias, and Giant Sequoia National Monument.
