Hi, My family (2 adults 2 young kids) stayed at this property 12/19/2012 for four nights and we were pleasantly surprised. The cabin was very well crafted. The owner was so helpful he even started our log fires for us. This was our first time to June Lake and we enjoyed it very much. The cabin sits in such a nice area with views of the high mountains from every single window. We liked that we could walk 10 min down the hill to a great restaurant at The Double Eagle. The heated floors were pretty nice in the cold weather. This place is a real home away from home...we will be back soon without the kids :-)Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car.

My husband and I are from Munich, Germany, and got married in Santa Barbara in late October. As Bavarian mountain lovers we were looking for a romantic, cozy log cabin in the High Sierras to end our honeymoon journey. Well, the weekend we stayed at this lovely cabin turned out to be the highlight of our entire trip! What a wonderful place to find the rare combination of immediate proximity to so many outdoor activities on the one hand and the privacy and luxury of a romantic mountain retreat on the other hand. The views of the mountains from the deck, the kitchen window, even the bed, are breathtaking. The attention given by the owner to every detail the guests might need is outstanding - the cabin offers everything you could possibly look for and more. We went hiking and the owner, Ian, took us on an unforgettable High Sierra Jeep adventure. Fresh snow on the mountain tops, the unique local landscape and the incredible yellow and red fall colors provided views that you certrainly don't find anywhere else. Not even in Bavaria! We cannot wait to come back here during one of the next winters. As avid cross country skiers we would like to experience this find in the snow. We were told that the cross country tracks start right down the hill from the cabin.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, pet owners.

My husband, 8 year old daughter and I stayed for a long weekend right as the aspen were turning a gorgeous golden and amber in Oct. I would highly recommend this well designed and beautifully furnished cabin, especially for those travelling over Tioga pass as it is on the northern end of June Lake area. Ian was immensely accommodating and included so many special touches throughout the cabin. It really made for a memorable visit to the Eastern Sierras and I am sure we will be back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay at this beautiful log cabin! The serenity of its surroundings and the breathtaking views were fantastic. Every last detail has been attended to in this cabin by the owner, Ian who was a wonderful host. Ian is extremely knowldedgable about the June Lake area and can direct you to beautiful hiking trails as well as where to go for good food! I highly recommend this cabin for couples or visitors who value privacy, pristine accommodations, peacefulness and stunning views. I will not hesitate to come back! Thanks again Ian...Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, pet owners.

This is a beautiful log cabin which the owner built to live in while his main house was constructed on the cliff above. The two homes blend together as one built into, and atop, a granite shelf. The walls, beams, and posts are thick, Douglas fir logs beautifully trimmed, notched, and finished. Ian, the owner, is an engineer and his passion for excellence and detail is evident in every corner of the house. He chose a South-Western theme for the interior which includes adobe-looking walls and a Spanish tile floor which covers a floor heating system which spares you the forced-air blast of central heat. Despite the obvious power and strength of log construction there is a welcome relief of a woman's touch in the interior decor and finish. Ian is a friendly and engaging owner who has an obvious love of the area, as well as a store of information on the history and geology of June Lake which he is more than happy to share. He also operates a jeep tour guide service during which you get to drive your own jeep as you follow his on back-roads most tourists never see. This home has light streaming in the windows offering beautiful views of Carson Peak and the waterfalls (he told me as many as 24!) streaming down it's flanks. The silence is profound and the views are spectacular. This house is a work of art both within and without; I found something special in the construction every day, for the four days we were there. It's a great place to either hunker down and relax or use as a springboard to explore the area.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, pet owners.

My husband and I wanted to find accommodations to spend a romantic weekend in June Lake and to see the fall colors. We had such a great time staying at the cabin. It had the most amazing views, I don't believe we could stay anywhere else in June Lake and be so close to the mountains. It had a lovely cozy log fireplace, balcony with a barbeque, comfortable bed, gorgeous tub and warm fleece sheets and offered much more than we could imagine. I felt as if we were in our own home, I was able to cook and bake as they had all that I needed. The location is perfect, we could walk down to the Double Eagle Bar for Happy Hour, the spa and hiking. The owner (Ian) is very friendly, knowledgeable and a gracious host. He also has a company that can take you on High Sierra Jeep Adventure tours to see the back country with AMAZING VIEWS of the High Sierras. We've been traveling to June Lake now for about 15 years and this was the first time that we were able to see the rugged land and also to learn about the history of the area. He was amazing, he's also a volunteer fire man!! We felt safe and so lucky that we found this gem of a place to stay and met such a gentleman with a wealth of information!! My husband wanted to take a Fly Fishing lesson and Ian helped arrange this for him too. I highly recommend staying at this lovely, charming, warm, inviting cabin that one would normally never have a chance to stay, as the location makes you feel like you are on top of the world!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners.

Stayed a week in this beautiful, unique cabin. It's located between June and Silver Lakes in a quiet and nice neighborhood. The furnishings were comfortable and the kitchen had everything needed. Enjoyed sitting on the deck and looking up at Mt. Carson. The trailhead to Fern Lake Falls and Fern Lake is a short walk from the cabin - both are worth the effort. The area is very dog-friendly so it was nice to take the dog on hikes and swims in the lakes. Another reviewer mentioned the Silver Lake Cafe and it is very good, open for breakfast and lunch. Don't fish but saw many happy fishermen with their catch. Took a day trip to Yosemite through the Tioga Pass. Visited the Ahwahnee Hotel, hiked to Yosemite Falls (they were dry), and drove up to Glacier Point - what a view! Also went south to Mammoth Lakes. Took the shuttle and hiked around Devil's Postpile, Rainbow Falls, and Reds Meadow. After Mammoth, liked returning to the less congested June Lake area. The owner of the cabin is extremely accomodating and very knowledgeable about the Sierras. If needed, he can recommend things to do and places to see. I would definitely recommend this cabin - it sure beats staying in a hotel or resort.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, pet owners.

After visiting June Lake for many years, we decided to rent a private cabin and we are so glad we did! This beautiful log cabin was a place of refuge after a long day of fishing. The owner was very gracious to meet us on the main road to escort us up the easily accessible but wonderfully off the beaten path road to the cabin. Not only is everything you need provided, but so tastefully amended. From the antique appliances in the kitchen, quality place settings and cookware, to the spanish tile floors throughout. It was obvious the heart and soul that went into building, designing, and furnishing this lovely cabin. If you are looking for a gateway for two, look no further! Pack your fishing poles, your bags and your slippers and get ready to get cozy in front of a wood burning stove and waking up to a spectacular view.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

My stay at this property was fantastic. It is located on a quiet street with excellent hiking trails a short walk out the front door. It is a nice 25 minute stroll to Silver Lake where you can rent kayaks and motor boats as well as have a delicious meal at the Silver Lake Cafe . I had a GREAT massage from Jose at the Double Eagle Resort which was a 10 minute walk from this cabin. I brought my road bike and biked through beautiful scenery on the June Lake Loop (again, right out the front door). So, this property was great from the standpoint that I could do so many outdoor activities without ever getting in my car. The cabin is lovely. Stunning views from all the windows. It has a charming wood burning stove, an antique bath tub with another great view out the window as you sit in the tub, and a kitchen with everything you could possibly need including a charming "old time" refrigerator and ice box. There is a great little deck off the main room which has gorgeous views. I loved leaving the french doors open and letting the Sierra ambience and weather in.The owner is extremely friendly and accommodating and did his best to see that I had a great time and had everything I needed. I will most definitely return. The photos on the VRBO listing do not do this place justice. It is really a special cabin, in a great location, and I can't think of one negative to say about the place or my experience there. I loved it!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: I'm a Brit who moved to the US in 1979 and fell in love with the Eastern Sierra and particularly June Lake. My wife and I built the fully-detached Guest House, completing it in 2005. We then started work on the main house, which sits higher up the hill, and that is now home.
Why the Owner Chose June Lake:
When we first bought the lot, we did so because of the view and location. The view from this property is spectacular by any definition. A fabulous panaramic mountain view, complete with waterfalls, puts you right in the heart of the High Sierra's.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
The Guest House nestles right into the granite mountainside, surrounded by Juniper and Jeffrey Pines.
It's very cosy, with a log stove, deck with barbeque, fantastic views and beautiful logwork, produced by one of the top custom log builders. At night, all you'll hear is the creek below - or the thunder of Horsetail Falls in the Spring.
