Upper Rawley Cabin - Bordering George Washington National Forest
- Minimum stay:1-4 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
We do allow for one night stays, but there is two night mimimum for weekend stays (either Friday and Saturday night or Saturday & Sunday nights).
Pets are welcome but we do require a Pet Cleaning Fee because we clean much more thoroughly when pets stay at the cabin. The cabin even has a fenced yard so you don't have to worry about your pets escaping or even walking them unless want to. Just open the door and let out knowing they won't run off.
Upper Rawley Cabin is a great place to see the stars. On clear nights, you can see thousands of stars overhead. It is a beautiful sight. Also during the spring and summer months, you can see humming birds everywhere. We place feeders off the front porch of the house and have personally seen upwards of 20 birds feeding on them at one time.
Checking is 4:00 pm and checkout is 11 am.
The house can fit 12 people. However, at least 4 would need to be children.

I'm not sure who loved this place the most...my husband and I, our 3 sons or our yellow lab! It was absolutely wonderful and we're already talking about our next visit to the Upper Rawley Cabin. How cozy to arrive w/the smoke coming out of the smokestack, fresh eggs from their hen house in the fridge and Katie and Steven awaiting us w/anything we should need. I must say the home was very cozy, numerous birds at the feeder during the day and the beds were so comfortable I had difficulty getting out each day. How nice to be able to explore the area on various hikes and see the sun peeking over the mountains each morning. How I wished we could've stayed longer. If you're looking for a retreat w/just about everything your heart could desire and more...this is the place for you! Can't wait for next time!!Did you find this review helpful? The Upper Rawley Cabin was more than expected. It was spacious, comfortable and ready for our stay upon arrival. We did experience high snow that weekend; Steven and Katie helped us out at any hour of the day. Thank you for the great time. We really enjoyed. Ben CusterDid you find this review helpful? Stayed in this house during the winter time for 4 days. I would like to start by saying that the owners were so accomodating and patient. We got lost on the way there and they went above and beyond trying to help us out. The house was immaculate. The owners had a warm fire going for us. The beds were super comfy and the kitchen was fully stocked. All appliances are new Didn't need to bring anything with me other than groceries. The surrounding area is quite beautiful and there are plenty of outdoor activities to join in on. I will definitely be back again. I highly recommend this place to all. Great for families! Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful home.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

We cannot say enough about the Rawley Cabin and owners Steven & Katie. They were such gracious hosts. Very pet friendly - including fenced in yard where our dog could roam around freely. Cabin is very comfortable - our daughter loved playing in the loft and all amenities were thought of. We would recommend this to anyone and hope to come back to stay in the future.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

There are three things that we look for when we want to rent a cabin or house: 1) clean 2) well-maintained and comfortable but fundamentally livable (not lots of fancy things worry about breaking or damaging just by using) and 3) pleasant interactions with the proprietors. The Rawley Creek house exceeded our expectations in all categories. This house is lovely, large and with generous amounts of kitchen supplies (including pantry basics like salt, sugar, condiments), bedding and towels. In addition, it is truly pet-friendly with a solidly fenced yard – such a rarity. But beyond that, I cannot imagine a family more dedicated to making sure their guests are comfortable and have all their needs met. Steven and Katie did everything from prompt communication with clear directions and suggestions for local grocery shopping before we arrived, to a warm welcome that included building us a fire, providing fresh eggs for breakfast from their chickens, offering to show us trails and asking (sincerely) if there was anything at all they could do to make our visit better. They are convinced that outstanding customer service, both in terms of the product (the quality of the properties) and their interactions with clients is the way to a successful business, and they’re right. We will not only be returning, but enthusiastically recommending their properties to our friends.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 4/4

Nice cozy cabin. Beds were comfortable. Well stocked kitchen. Wood stove kept it toasty. National forest with hiking trail just a couple minute walk from cabin. Only requests would be to have it plowed so vehicles that aren't 4wd can make it there. And extra kitchen/dining seated is needed. We had 8 in our party but there were only 6 chairs and no stools.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This Cabin was Choice, my family and I rent vacation homes all over and the upper Rawley Cabin falls into the 5 star category. Clean, amenities, location, this place has it all. We were well stocked with wood for the stove, everything you needed was in the kitchen, and the owners provided us with fresh eggs from their chickens and sleds when it snowed. It was a bit tricky getting up the mountain on the road but you can make it with only a two wheel vehicle. I would stay here again and recommend it to anyone who wants a mountain get away.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had a great 4 day stay at this lovely mountain home. Steven met us at the home and gave us a tour of the house and grounds. The house is very well equpped with plenty of kitchen equipment, towels for the bathrooms and very comfortable beds. Our two dogs were able to roam the grounds since it was fenced in. The hot water tank broke our second day there but Steven came up within 5 minutes of our calling and had it fixed in three hours! If needed we could have used the shower at his other rental. We appreciated such a fast response! We enjoyed using the fireplace as the nights were very chilly.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2010
About the owner: We moved from Texas so that I could complete my college degree at Bridgewater College and my wife is a full time science teacher. We have two daughters Anna Kate, who is three and Abigail was just born this January. We also have 8 rescue dogs and 3 cats who love to hike with us on all the trails and swim in the two rivers within walking distance of the house.
Why the Owner Chose Harrisonburg:
We wanted to be in the country where our kids and pets could play without having to worry about passing cars. We fell in love with the house the first moment we saw it. It has a rustic, yet modern and updated feel at the same time. We also liked that the cabin bordered the national forest.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
If you are looking to get away from the fast pace of life, then this is the perfect to relax. The cabin sits just above where the Dry River and Gum Run meet so both rivers are within walking distance from the cabin. Also, there are 3 hiking trails within walking distance of the cabin and numerous others within a very short drive of the cabin.
