COMMENTS from our guests:

"We loved your home...! Other rentals simply do not compare to this gracious home. Everything was absolutely perfect. We hope to come back soon! Your new friends, Trisha and Bill, Virginia Beach, VA."

"The rustic feel of the log cabin took us back in time, and it is so artfully furnished, we spent a lot of time just exploring and looking at things in the home...

The deck is large, with such comfortable furniture, my husband and I dozed in the afternoon while watching the wildlife come and go on the river beside the house. We have 4 kids, and love to hike. The mountain behind the house provided a wonderful view to valleys to East and West

    • The River House is absolutely a wonderful "little getaway"! The house is very quaint and secluded with a very inviting deck and fishing nearby. There was just the two of us and our 3 year old puppy Reagan, and we all had a very relaxing and pleasant time. The Owner, Eschi, is extremely accommodating and wants to truly make sure that your stay is perfect. She greated us when we arrived and made sure that we had everything we needed or if there were any improvements that she could make. We have reccommended Eschi's River House to our Friends and if you are just looking to get away for a few days, I cannot think of a better place! Thank you again Eschi! Michael, Lori and Reagan

      Homeowner Response:
Lori and Micjael, your two visits were my joy! eschi

    • Plan on spending the agreed price PLUS deposit; the owner manages to keep most of the $300. We had a nice time until a bat flew in the house and that ended our relaxation. We left early and won't be back and our "hostess" could no have cared less! We had a few problems during our stay and instead of helping she was more interested on blaming us for the problems to my disappointment. Live and learn.

      Homeowner Response:
Mr. Manganello, sadly only partial truth re bat which must have entered through door/windows left open by unsupervised children; that also explains higher heating charges. My guests' welfare/enjoyment is of utmost importance to me. Until now I was unaware of "other problems". Among monies NOT returned from DAMAGE deposit (as per mutually signed RENTAL contract)I overlooked charges relating large/excessive amount of trash left behind. The vicious form of FALSE accusations made by your party to various authorities in order to try to force undeserved refund (including lost items) without first responding to my list of "damage deposit withholdings", I do not wish on other vacation owner/operators. I thank you for your visit. EAW

    • Dear Eschi, So sorry we've waited so long to enter our comment, but we wanted to write and let you know just how much both we and our friends enjoyed our two visits to your lovely home on the river. In our first visit, we stayed several days to celebrate our 1st anniversary, during which time we had the most romantic, relaxing visit. It was so nice to be somewhere that the pace was slow and the accommodations so lovely. Having the piano to play was a special treat, as well! A few weeks later, when we brought our friends from England to visit, once again we were most delighted. Our guests relished in the peace and quiet of the house, too. They were so relieved to be able to stay somewhere that they could just enjoy rest and relaxation, as they'd been on quite a whirlwind trying to visit all their American friends in just one month! We, the hosts, were so glad to be able to provide them a place away from all the hustle and bustle of the city, too. So, whether it was sitting in the quiet indoors reading, or out on the deck blowing bubbles with 3 year old Emily, we had a blast! Once again, dearest Eschi, thank you, thank you, thank you for making both our recent stays so wonderful. We certainly shall plan to return again and again!

    • How wonderful to stay at Eschi's River House for a week. The House was amazing and so comfortable with all the amenities you could want (and more). My two boys loved playing outside with our dogs near the river. Between roasting marshmellows over a fire, canoeing, hiking, and grilling - it was a great week. It was also a real treat to have an upright Grand piano to play. An amazing, one-of-a kind vacation rental. It was a little slice of heaven. Thanks - Eschi

    • Eschi, Thank you so very much for a wonderful and relaxing vacation. The bed in the master bedroom was the most comfortable we have ever slept in. All of us adults had a great time fishing, grilling and most of all relaxing on our trip. The kids were never bored thanks to your video collection, fire pit, walking trails and games. It was a great place to meet our friends in between our respective home states! The house was very comfortable with ample space for all 9 of us to spread out and not feel as though we were jammed together. The antiques and ambiance were lovely and the perfect setting for us to feel at home. We appreciated your hospitality and accomodations while we were there and have already begun discussing when we can all come back again. Thanks so much for everything and be sure I will recommend you to our other friends for their vacations! Brenda Crabtree

      Homeowner Response:
Ms. Brenda. your gracious comment is surpassed only by the joy of meeting your family and friends. Thank you for your visit. Eschi

    • We spent a blissful week in the River House with our grown children and grandchildren! It was the perfect relaxed country retreat with room for everyone to congregate in large or small groups. The four bathrooms were a big plus as well. We loved the extensive library, my daughter brushed up on her piano skills, the children played non-stop in the yard, and my husband fished to his heart's content. He was astounded by the great fishing, and our small grandchildren landed plenty of perch. We had enough fish for dinner to feed the whole crowd two different nights. We roasted marshmallows at the firepit by the river, played badminton, and enjoyed watching the magical lightning bug show. The grandchildren were heart-broken to have to leave. The house is a great base for exploring the area. Eschi, we really appreciate your hospitality, and want you to know that we think that the River House is wonderful for a relaxing family vacation. • Very disappointing trip:-\ We were expecting a rustic look and feel but this house was dirty and dusty. There is overgrown bushes that envelope this rental, you cannot get a decent view of the river from the deck and you can't swim...or get in the water. As far as fishing, only one person can stand on a patch of dirt about 2 feet wide on a steep incline. We booked the place on a whim on a Friday afternoon, after the owner sent several emails lowering the price considerably, and we took off on what we thought would be an exciting adventure for 2 nights. We could not sleep due to the dust and stuffiness and we took off the next day for home, it ended up being an expensive one night visit.

      Homeowner Response:
dear Ms. Butala, When I welcomed you after you had already been at the house for over an hour and your husband had inspected the three fishing spots, on flat grass.... you raved about the accommodations and how much nicer than expected it was, thus my surprise! Perhaps you did not go far enough on the path leading to river access? The house was cleaned professionally that morning. The airconditioning was available, thus no need for "stuffiness." Your second night, lights were visible from my residence, thus I assume you left earlier in the morning than agreed 9 am. I thank you for your visit, though the breaking of the dogwood tree branches was not appreciated, nor the mess left by your nice dog. Best regards, Eschi

    • We had a wonderful, magical weekend for our son's JMU graduation. The house was a home in every sense of the word; very comfortable beds, lots of room to gather together, and when needed, space for everyone to find a nook and cranny by themselves. There are gorgeous views of the river, and plenty of spots to discover. It really made our son's milestone a grand experience for friends and family. Connie Hansen

    • My husband and I stayed at the River House in Oct. 2007. It was fabulous! The house is so warm and welcoming, with all sorts of interesting books and antiques to enjoy. We especially enjoyed playing the piano in the lovely parlor, sitting on the huge deck and walking by the river. Our 2 dogs, Stanley and Stella, were able to come with us - they thoroughly enjoyed the great outdoors! Even though we were only 2 people and 2 dogs, the River House is a great place for a larger group. The 2 parlors would be great for a larger group, folks that want to watch TV can be in one area and folks that want to chat or read can sit in the other parlor. Then everyone would be able to gather together around the huge dining table to dine together. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wished that it could have been forever! We've already recommended it to friends and plan to come back when we can. Thanks Eschi for the lovely stay! Oralie and Raymond, Stanley and Stella
