Historic Farmhouse Steps from Downtown: 1/2 Acre with Amazing Views
- Minimum stay:2 nights

Come stay in a Historic 1930 Danish farmhouse we recently remodeled inside and out. It has an unbeatable location steps from downtown Solvang. A half acre of private lawns, courtyards, and panoramic views of the Alisal Ranch await you.
We have two outdoor BBQs, a Hot Tub, full-size Bocci Ball court, horse shoe pit, vines, fruit trees, an organic garden, and no less than five outdoor spaces with charming sitting areas for reading, napping, stargazing by the fire pit or sipping wine with friends. The two most notable include:
A 350 square foot deck off of the house with a slate dining table for 8, where we take most of our meals alfresco.
A 240 square foot outdoor living room for 10 under the pergola, which includes a large fire pit
In the event that you actually spend some time inside, there are two HD flat screen TVs with Direct TV, Nintendo Wii, and wireless internet. There are two bathrooms, three bedrooms with queen beds, and one dorm-style room with bunks for Kids (or adventurous adults). There is also an 1,100 square foot Great Room with views out of every window.
The house is fully stocked with linens, paper products, and toiletries. We also have DirecTV, Broadband Internet, washer/dryer and a well-stocked farm kitchen.
This exceptional location puts you within a 5 minute walk to downtown Solvang tasting rooms, shopping, and restaurants! The Alisal River Golf course, and Santa Ynez river are also a 5 minute walk from our back gate! This property is dog- and kid-friendly and completely fenced with room for up to four cars behind the gates.
For the Adults:
Fish in Cachuma Lake only 15 minutes away
Walk along Gaviota Beach located only 20 minutes away
Have a picnic in Nojqui Falls park located 5 miles up Alisal Glenn Road
Taste at over 100 wineries in the Santa Ynez valley (we recommend: Lucas & Lellywen, Toccata, Stolpman, Curis, and Zaca Mesa)
Take an short drive to Buelton, Santa Ynez, Ballard, or Los Olivos (or walk a couple of blocks into downtown Solvang). Try the Solvang Farmer's market on Wednesday's on 1st street from 1-5PM.
Or, hike in the San Rafael wilderness off of Figueroa Mountain road.
For the little ones:
Bike or scooter in the neighborhood, take easy hikes by the river, or swing, and play on the property in your very own mini club house!
Drive 10 minutes to see Emus in Buelton, Donkeys in Ballard, or Emus in Santa Ynez. There is also a miniature horse farm off of Alimo Pintado road, along with the world's best kid's park (Sunny fields)
There is a complete skateboarding park at Hans Christian Andersen Park, which is also a great location for a family picnic.

Our stay in Solvang at the Danish Farmhouse couldn't have been better. The house is comfortable and roomy. It is a short walk to the heart of Solvang and all of its delicious bakeries and delightful shops. Route 246, that will take you to various wineries and other venues, is easily accessible. The pictures on the website are accurate but can't capture the true ambience of this lovely property. The house itself is beautifully furnished, the kitchen well equipped. The outside amenities make for easy relaxing while the view of the valley is without match. The only thing wrong was we couldn't stay longer!Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, girls getaway.

I rented this house for a birthday wine tasting weekend for 10 people and it was fantastic. Our group thoroughly enjoyed our stay and my dog was in heaven with the huge yard to run around. The house and outdoor areas were even larger in person than they look in the pictures. The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking and there were lots of games to choose from. The views are fantastic - I just wish it had been a little warmer and we had more time to enjoy them outdoors! And the location can't be beat - it feels very private but just a short walk to restaurants, shops and tasting rooms of downtown Solvang. The owners were very responsive and have a wonderful home. I would highly recommend this rental home and look forward to getting back there again this summer.Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners, tourists without a car, girls getaway.

This delightful farmhouse was secluded enough to feel private but also within easy walking distance to the shops and restaurants of Solvang. It is comfortably appointed with unique flourishes and was roomy and spacious enough to fit our group of five adults very well. The large kitchen is completely outfitted for cooking of every kind and there are multiple sitting areas outside on the property fitting for an intimate chat or a reading nook and a cup of tea. If you stay here during the winter months, the home has a big, inviting fireplace. We would definitely return to this great location.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car, girls getaway.

We rented this home for a family gathering to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday. It worked out perfectly! The kitchen was well equipped for our dinner preparations, the bedrooms were wonderfully decorated and very comfortable—especially the back bedroom with toys and bunk beds for the kids (plus a TV for kid movie time). Everyone had a wonderful time and couldn't stop commenting on how lovely the property was and how amazing the views. Highly recommended for families, very kid friendly (swing set, playhouse, hot tub, horse shoes and more!).Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I went up with my mom to relax and taste wine, and that's what we did! The house and garden are gorgeous, peaceful and relaxing. The view is amazing! We loved the house because it felt like you were in a secluded villa, and yet, you could walk into town in minutes and enjoy the food and wine. The minute you walk into the house, you feel relaxed. The house and grounds are beautifully decorated, yet also very comfortable. Wish we could've stayed longer:)Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

What a wonderful place to stay and enjoy Solvang. You feel like you're at your own private oasis with not a person for miles, yet can walk 2 minutes and be in the heart of downtown. Very clean place with lots of space. Wonderful landscaping made relaxing on the deck during the day quite enjoyable. We truly enjoyed our stay and look forward to coming here again.Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, tourists without a car, girls getaway.

A great escape from Los Angeles. We had a wonderful stay at this beautifully restored farmhouse. The bedrooms and living areas are tastefully decorated and very spacious/comfortable, and the kitchen is fully equipped. It is also very conveniently located to "downtown" Solvang and scenic walking trails. All that said, the best part for us was playing games (e.g., bocce, horseshoes, etc.) in the side and back yards ... clean, fresh air in a picturesque scene. Highly recommended!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Five members of my family found this home to be paradise away from home. The outdoor environment with comfortable seating and beautiful views were wonderful for relaxing and sipping wine to unwind after a full day of activities. We thoroughly enjoyed playing bocce ball and pitching horseshoes The owners have made this home inviting and comfortable with so many amenities. Very quiet - you wouldn't even know you are within walking distance from downtown Solvang! we will return!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This was the perfect spot for a relaxing family vacation. A beautiful wine country setting with amazing views of the mountains made us feel like we were away from it all, yet it was just a short walk to downtown Solvang to enjoy great food, shopping and of course wine tasting. The 3 recently remodeled bedrooms, 2 baths, plus a bonus large kids room made it comfortable for our group inside. But the hot tub, lounge area, gardens and even a bocce court all with great views motivated us to spend most of our time enjoying the great outdoors. Thanks for the pause that refreshed!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2011
About the owner: We've travelled the world, but think California stands up to the best the world has to offer. We're avid vacation home renters ourselves and tend to be live on the more adventurous side of life. We've got two kids and a dog who provide a lot of that adventure. Our Philosophy: Life is short, so enjoy it to the fullest!
Why the Owner Chose Solvang:
This is a property with quite a story: The original owner was a Danish chicken rancher and the surrounding neighborhood is standing on what was the original farm. In 1930, the Great Depression was just beginning. Two transient workers stopped by and offered to build a house on the rancher's land. He replied that he couldn't pay them, but they agreed to build it anyway and he would pay when he could. Thus our house came into being. The farmer picked a good spot on the top of the bluff with a view, which we enjoy to this day. Over the years, the surrounding property was sold off and subdivided, leaving the existing half acre and house that sits on the lot today.
When we saw this property in 2010, we knew in an instant it was the right fit for us. Plenty of space, an amazing view, and a historical house with character awaited us. After 18 months of restoration and landscape work, we were left with the wine country getaway of our dreams. It's been a place to make wonderful memories with our family and friends.
The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse:
We preserved a lot of the character of the house, from the hand-painted details in the front door, to the wood burning Santa Maria grill in the back.
Outside, there is just as much to discover: the grapes in the vegetable garden, a 500 year old chinese boat, the tree swing under the Redwood, or our 'sofa' made out of a reclaimed bathtub. We've incorporated many of the things we loved about the area and brought them onto the property site.
Perhaps the most unique thing about this property is it's location: You have an amazing panoramic view of the Alisal ranch, yet can walk out of the front gate and up to the farmer's market on 1st Street (or one of the 26 other festivals going on in Solvang each year). And it's centrally located by car to all that the Santa Ynez valley has to offer.
