Our cottage home has an open, welcoming feeling, with a front porch that looks out across the front yard to the Atlantic Ocean as shown. The living room (12 foot by 25 foot) is casually furnished with two large picture windows and a fire place. The adjoining dining area sits ten. The kitchen is well-equipped including a Cuisinart and a fine set of cookware so that we can indulge our summer pastime of cooking together. The porch is a favorite spot for cocktails, a meal, or a leisurely read.
Located in the heart of Weekapaug (9 Winona Ave), this cottage is equi-distance (less than half a mile)7-10 min walk from the private beaches of Weekapaug- the Fenway Beach, the Weekapaug Yacht Club, the Weekapaug Tennis Club, and the famous Inn Beach (pictured on this page), a one and a half mile long stretch of undeveloped barrier beach for sunbathing, swimming, picnicking, and walking.
Fenway the smaller, nearby beach has a gradual slope ideal for children, sand castles and beach games. Renters can use the 8 free beach passes to the private Weekapaug beaches that are watched by lifeguards through Labor Day Weekend.
The five bedrooms provide one queen, one double, a bunkbed, a set of twin beds, and a single bed and 2 foldout "chairbeds". Three of the bedrooms have writing tables and reading chairs that have accommodated our more private, creative pursuits. The house includes two and one half baths and an additional outdoor shower that many prefer.
For over a century, Weekapaug has been a summer beach community for families on a stretch of Rhode Island shoreline known for its beautiful beaches and large salt ponds populated by an abundance of shorebirds, fish, shellfish, and other wildlife. A ferry or plane ride to Block Island offers a wonderful day’s outing. Amtrak stops at the nearby Westerly train station, US Air flies into Groton, Connecticut and many airlines into Providence.
The areas is rich with excursions including public beaches at Misquamicut. Enjoy shopping in nearby Watch Hill and excellent dining in Westerly and Stonington, discover the Mystic Seaport Museum with its authentic sailing vessels and period village, the Mystic Aquarium and Bob Ballard’s Titannic project headquarters (20 minutes away), or explore the historic and culinary riches of Newport. |
