We spent the week boating on the river, fishing, and relaxing. We enjoyed visiting Edenton with its restaurants and sights as well as the nearby communities. The little cabin is very special. For its size, it is amazing and we had everything we needed for a perfect vacation. The cabin and property are even better than we expected. We recommend it highly and plan to return.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

Less then a two hour drive from Virginia Beach, lies nestled between trees and against a hill this beautifully done, new, very clean, quiet, well insulated, and tastefully decorated cabin. On the other side of the hill is the Chowan river. Wide, calming, and peaceful. You can walk along the river or sit on the pier. And if walking is too much for you, the owner supplies a golf cart to see the surroundings!! We roasted marshmallows in the fire pit, enjoyed the peace and quiet, and inhaled the pristine fresh air. The two of us had a perfect romantic getaway. Would highly recommend, and we will be back for a longer stay.Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

This place is amazing. The pictures are good...but the real thing is even BETTER! We normally spend a few minutes cleaning the places we rent from VRBO, but NOT with this cabin. It was spotless when we arrived & very well maintained. Although the location is far off the beaten path, it was just the right amount of seclusion to break away from the hustle and bustle of life. The friendly neighbors provided a sense of security out in the deep woods, but never interferred with our privacy. Doug & Kim were wonderful hosts and added personal touches that really made our stay perfect. The river view is incredible...it really is a little slice of heaven.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

What a beautiful, unique spot! We had a brief stay in September, hoping to return sometime during the colder months, when it'll be a whole different kind of cozy! It's a honeymoon house, for sure. The perfectly appointed brand-new little cabin rests on a woodsy hill that feels like you're on a remote mountain, though it's close to nice towns and easy shopping. There are some steep hills, but with the golf-cart provided, getting around the neighbors' properties and down onto the beach was quick and fun - we rented the boat and had a perfect day of fishing - It was nice and secluded but with friendly neighbors and our very charming and helpful hosts Doug and Kim extending Southern hospitality. They have made really elegant use of space, and though the half-size fridge was a bit of a challenge (the cooler in our car made up for whatever didn't fit), the kitchen had absolutely everything we needed, and all very handsome quality stuff. Stylish bathroom, gorgeous fixtures, terrific shower! We reminisce fondly about the deep sleep we got in the sleeping loft under the high peak of the roof - excellent beds, linens and quilts, with the smell of pine and the lovely woodwork to enjoy as you drifted off...We had a really nice time exploring the shore, watching the sky with a glass of wine on the dock, making a fire, grilling outdoors...we wish it had been longer and can't wait to go back!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

My husband and I were looking for a last minute weekend hide-away and found exactly what we were looking for in The Little Cabin on the Hillside. It was quaint, but modern; clean and very tastefully done. The hosts are so friendly, showing true southern hospitality. It is private and secluded for a very relaxing atmosphere with beautiful river views from the top of the hill. The beach area is quiet and very conducive to chatting and reconnecting. We rented the boat for the afternoon and could not believe that we were out on the river for 4 hours...the time flew as we relaxed, fished and chatted. We grilled, swam, boated, fished and enjoyed the hammock and fire pit all in this quiet country setting. We did drive in to Edenton the first night and ate out but other than that we never left the property! What a great way to spend a weekend!Did you find this review helpful? We wanted to get away last minute and found this cabin available. We were so pleasantly surprised how nice and well kept both the interior and the surrounding land was. The cabin is perfectly appointed and extremely comfortable. Everything is top of the line - no penny pinching here. The river is so close is hard to say the cabin isn't waterfront. We went to the river each morning to drink coffee and watch the sunrise over the Chowan River. I will definitely return - great place - highly recommend.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

About the owner: My name is Doug Liverman. I live in Ahoskie NC. Ahoskie is about 25 minutes away from the cabin. The cabin was built basically to have more room when we (Kim and I ) would have all the family down for holiday weekends. It started out as just a square box shape and turned into what it is today. It is about 800 square feet sitting on a hillside just off the Chowan River in Bertie County N.C. It is pattern after a one hundred year old cabin that Kim, my girlfriend, found in a Sportsman magazine at a dentist office. Kim got me phone numbers and I called until I found the people who own the original one which is over a hunderd years old and much more rustic. We added a kitchen and a few other features to ours to make it what it is. A nice little cozy cabin on a hillside where it fits perfect over looking a pond in a quiet little area on the river. You can walk from the cabin to the pier on the river and never touch the ground. It is great for exercise if you are looking for that. As for myself I own a small business in Ahoskie and Kim is a nurse at the local hospital. There is a larger log home on the property which I try to spend as much time in as I possibly can. If you come and visit you will understand why.
Why the Owner Chose Edenton:
Mainly for the view. When I was sixteen my buddy and I would go down to this place and hang out, at that time it belonged to his grandparents. I would watch him and a friend of ours jump off a cliff that used to be in front of the main house. The crazy things we will do when we are young . I never knew that someday I would actually have a house on the same lot. The view is beautiful and breathtaking especially on a moon lite night or an early morning sunrise.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
The view and location is great and it is very quaint and peaceful. If you are looking for a quiet week or weekend it's worth the trip. You can see deer running around, you can feed the ducks in the nearby pond, watch the rabbits run by, or maybe if you are lucky you may see a bald eagle fly. There are nice restaurants in the area that you can visit by land or river. Just one problem if you go by river you will need a boat, so if you have one you might want to bring it unless you luck up and Kim and I are around and hungry. There is some shopping a few miles away, a movie theater, and some historical viewing if you like things like that. It is small town shopping no W-marts. The nearest one is about 25 minutes away. The cabin does have a deck on the back with a fire pit, gas grill, and a screened in porch. There is a front porch with old timer rockers and a small table for early morning coffee. It has a microwave, also a coffee maker for the coffee lovers. The bathroom has a walk in shower but no tub, in the kitchen there is an oven, stove, and fridge. There is an outside hot tub at the big house that might be available.Jets skies and fishing boats are not available but there will be a paddle boat, small john boat with trolling motor for someone who may want to fish. Canoe or kayak and fishing reels will be available for daily rental. If there is a special occasion please let us know we will be more than willing to help. Check in time is at 3:00 PM, check out is at 11:00 AM.
