This cozy cottage was perfect for our little excursion to San Diego. The house was clean, nicely decorated, and fully stocked with everything we needed. The beds were cozy and the owner even had some fruit, coffee, and other snacks waiting for us. It had surfboards, beach chairs, and an awesome fenced in yard with a firepit and BBQ. Great for the dog and the kids too!! The little village/beach of Cardiff is just down the hill and it has everything you need. Or, you can venture into San Diego which was about 20 minutes away or Legoland just a couple minutes North.Recommended for: Pet owners, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

Pros: Gary and Joan the owner provided everything I needed for a great stay from firewood, washer & Dryer, beach chairs etc. Place is chock full of character. Location is convenient to the beach and the " Seasonal Parking Pass" provided is a great bonus. Plenty of parking space. The privacy of the front yard for pets is terrific. For some this can be a pro or con depending your needs. location is very close to the freeway so there is traffic noise in the day although not so noticeable in the evening. Although there were only two of us the price for a family is really quite good.Recommended for: Pet owners, families with teenagers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2002
About the owner: Growing up in Los Angeles, at 10 years old my mom and dad took our family camping at the ocean front San Elijo campground in Cardiff by the Sea, California- We came back every year . I went through school and had a plan- which is why I now live in this area with a family of my own. Our family home lives across the lagoon from this house. We consider this area to be one of the best places in the world. I am a serious large and small wave surfer, this area suits the life-style . My wife and I have a great family, with kids, dogs, cats, horses, birds reptiles and fish .
Why the Owner Chose Cardiff by the Sea:
We purchased the cottage from an older gentleman who owned it for three decades and wanted to sell it to a family that would appreciate the home's unique style and history. This was originally a farmhouse in the early 1900's when this entire region was all rural. (This area was once known as the flower-growing capital of the world.) As Cardiff became more populated, the farmland was sold, and this became a family home. Then, in the late 1970's to the early 1980's, a bunch of surfers and college students resided here, and this place was known all though the North County area as 'The Animal House'. To this day, we run into people who have had a past history (and some very colourful stories), of partying at this house! We love the cozy town of Cardiff, and we love the sunny location of this house at the top of a hill. This community is very unique-It's a beach town where the first topic of the day is 'How's the Surf?' Someday, we plan to make this our own home, but for now, we want to give you the joy of experiencing it's pleasures!
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
An authentic beach cottage- board-and-batten walls, hardwood floors ,archectural open beam wood ceilings, wood windows, cool textures and finishes, Stone pathways meander to the front door, past colorful plants. There is an unobstructed view of the ocean from the front yard that we just love! The house is light, airy, and sunny.
