The listing description gave accurate information regarding location. The rental pictures appear to have been older. The fountain was not working. The television was computer hook up instead of actual cable. The owner was helpful in answering questions. I would recommend this property. It was close to the center of town, shopping and restaurants. Very safe neighborhood.

Okay, but, beware
Okay, but, beware
I guess I was the first to rent this place from what I am told. I have been here 3 days, finally got wifi, now they are telling me that cable might not be in the package. It is advertised. I asked about quietness as I am a very light sleeper before I rented. This is one of the noisiest homes I have ever stayed in. Day and night, traffic even in the back bedroom where I was told it would be quiet. The front bedroom cannot be used because of noise. I guess all of Centro gets the airplane noise but here @ 620 am every morning United's flight comes right over. You can see the plane through the screened roof in the courtyard. Not many other flights each day but some. House was not cleaned. Owner moved out the day before. Food left with in refrigerator and freezer. Bathrooms were okay if you only need 2 towels for that bathroom and 1 towel for the front. I'm sure the front bath doesn't need towels since there is so much noise no one could use the front bedroom/bath. Freezer was full. Response was, if you want it, eat if, if not, throw it away. Wifi wasn't set up and it took 2 days with me having to stay here and meet everyone. I've been here 2 days now, and haven't gotten much further than a couple of blocks since I have to be here for wifi or the manager. Manager is "helpful" but still I get to do everything. Fan in master bedroom barely runs. 1/2 of the switches in the house don't seem to work. Bedside lamp has to be plugged in since there is no switch. Backyard table and chairs are filthy with blobs of stuff on them. Lights in fountain don't work, pool lights don't work. Upstairs patio is there but no chairs or tables. Just a roof. Holes and nails still in walls where art was removed. Lots of paint flake off on walls. What more do you need to know. It is a layout but horribly run down. And, the noise. Beware Owner is wanting to sell but decided to rent until it sells so I guess she isn't doing much work on it. With so many plugs not working, I do worry about the electrical system. I am working with the agent, again, who is very good, but is between the owner and me. I don't fault the agent except for the condition and noise when we were emailing. If I had known all of this now, I wouldn't be here. I have given deadline of 5pm to get it together or I will be leaving. I had signed a 5 month lease you would think they would appreciate a long-term tenant and not just have owner move and vacationer move in. Beware

Manager response: It seems the one who should beware is the next person to rent to this man. He arrived 2 nights early (which we were not charging for).It looks like he spent his almost 2 days in the house looking for problems. First he complained that the wi-fi wasn’t working, but our manager tested on her computer and it did work.She spent hours assisting him and on the phone with the internet company to find the problem.Turns out the problem was with his laptop settings.He then called our manager with abusive language complaining the house was dirty, after he had already been there for close to 48 hours. We offered to have it cleaned once again and he refused.Next he complained about the noise.We told him that the front room is noisy but the main bedroom isn't, especially if you turn on the a/c to mask any ambient noise.He replied that he can’t sleep with a/c. We suggested he sleep in the main bedroom and he claimed the fan was too slow.We offered to change the setting on the fan and he refused.In his complaint he stated that the owner moved out the day before.The owner has not lived in the house for over 7 months as she has another home.And the last renters left 3 days before. We left a whole closet of towels for him to use. I assume he did not see those. Another complaint was that some of the light switches didn’t work (not true).The house is in one of the best locations in the city being that it is four blocks from the main square.Of course there is traffic noise,but not in the main bedroom.We have lived in this house for many years, and have rented it out to many satisfied renters. Theagreement provides that he would forfeit his deposit if he broke the lease. He called abusively and said he is getting a hotel room but he refused to leave the house without a refund.In fact, he told us he would refuse us entry to the house if we did not come with his refund. And although he had given us a check, he told us that he had cancelled the check. When we pointed out that he was therefore in the house illegally, he changed his story and said he did not cancel the check (which in truth we found out later that he had).He further threatened that if we did not give him back his deposit he would “write a review saying we are liars and he will make sure no one ever rents the house”.Legally, we did not have to refund his full deposit,but we refunded part of it as he kept threatening us.All in all,abusive,complaining tenant who would have been better off staying home.

About: I'm originally from New York. 8 years ago I bought a house on the beach here in the Yucatan and each time I came down to visit, I fell more and more in love with the city, specifically Centro. So, I decided to buy a home in Centro. I would travel back and forth NY to Merida all the time wishing I were back here. So, I decided to move here full time. 4 years ago I opened a gallery, also in Centro (SoHo Galleries) on calle 60 bet. 43 and 41 and am enjoying meeting artists from all over Mexico and Latin America. Life here is calmer, slower and the local culture is a joy. You'll see when you come and visit.
When I saw this property, I knew immediately this is it!!! Although it needed lots of work, the center courtyard and the garden spaces is what attracted me most. I love the location, near everything right downtown! Mejorada church and park are 1/2 block away, the zocalo is 4 blocks away and main market is only 2 block from the house. On the weekends they close off the streets on the main square. I walk down, have breakfast, watch the local dancing, shop crafts and just take it all in! Then walk back, take a swim and a nice nap!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
When I was looking for my dream home, I really wanted it near local culture but also wanted convenience of parking. The house is so close to everything including ballet, theater, the symphony, museums and it has a garage.. That is very unusual for downtown. The inner courtyard with the gardens and fountain is where I spend my mornings reading and drinking coffee. All rooms overlook private garden spaces .. including the master bathroom. The city is finishing up a whole renewal program in Centro so all the streets are and buildings are being renovated.. It is a peaceful retreat in the middle of everything!
