Volunteering while you stay in Granada is also another way to discover the city and Nicaragua.
Year Purchased: 2012
About: As Canadians, we were looking for a place in the sun for the winter months. Deciding to visit Nicaragua, we fell in love with Granada, the people, the flora and fauna, the colonial homes.
As new owners we won't have the chance to get down to the Casa until this winter where we plan to add a lot of flowers and plants to make it even more enchanting.
Why Granada: Casa Flor de Luna
One of our daily rituals while in Granada was to go to Fitzcaraldo's on Plaza de la Independencia to have an espresso and a fresh fruit juice. One day the waitress asked if we would like to try pitaya fruit juice. We said sure! We loved it so much and the color was amazing. After looking into the pitaya fruit on the internet we discovered that the flower that blooms on the cactus tree is called Moon Flower.
We looked at many properties and when we found Casa Flor de Luna, we loved everything about it. The house is located in a quiet neighborhood, close to Parque Centrale and yet close to the supermarkets like La Union, Pali and Coloniale.
Hylocereus (sweet pitayas).
If not otherwise stated, this article's content refers specifically to the pitayas of Hylocereus species, or dragon fruit.
Hylocereus blooms only at night; the large white fragrant flowers of the typical cactusflower shape are among those called 'moonflower' or 'Queen of the Night'. Sweet pitayas have a creamy pulp and a delicate aroma. It is also grown as an Ornamental plant, used in gardens as a flowering vine, and a house plant indoors.
The Unique Benefits at this House: What is there not to love with having a pool, palm trees in your own courtyard, an open kitchen/dining area. A balcony with views of the volcano.
