Kathy and Alan welcome you to our home “Villa of the Rock” (Villa de la Roca). We are located at the north end of Playa Grande, the second to the last house on the beach. We have a beautiful, landscaped private yard with a shell shaped “cool” pool. Lang lang, mango, guanabana, almond, teak and guava trees are all around you. The house is located on the beautiful Las Baulas National Park where the world’s largest leatherback turtles nest. We keep lights low at night on the beach side so the nesting mothers and emerging babies are not confused.

The house is two story, 32 feet high with large decks around three sides. The Honeymoon Suite is the top floor. It consists of large master bedroom, 19 foot ceilings, double fans, large 22,500 btu air conditioner and satellite TV- Dish Network if desired. Bathroom has a tiled shower with hot water. The well equipped kitchen has a refrigerator, 3 burner gas top, a Faberware convection oven, coffee maker, blender and toaster oven. A built-in “U” shaped conversational couch in the living room has 6 inch cushions all around for your comfort. An upstairs sleeping loft has a queen bed and a double bed and a library of more than 300 paperback books for your enjoyment during your visit. You have beautiful views of the beach, surf, pelicans and sunsets from the living room, bedroom and kitchen.

The upstairs beachside deck is 12 feet wide by 56 feet long- plenty of room for sitting, eating, relaxing, watching surf and sunsets. The deck on the pool side upstairs is 10 feet x 56 feet (we saved a big tree over the pool.

Downstairs are two large (20 ft.x20ft.) identical sized studio apartments, equipped with double fans, AC, dead-bolted walk-in closet, 10 foot ceilings, small kitchen with small refrigerator, double gas burners, coffee maker and toaster oven. The private baths have tiled showers with hot water. One studio has a king size bed and a single bed, the other studio has a king size bed and a small, comfortable seating area. From the king size bed you look out one set of double French doors to the beach and surf and the other set leads you to the garden and the pool. The colorful hibiscus and other plants all around the courtyard draw butterflies and hummingbirds.

The Villa can accommodate up to 10 people with the upstairs and downstairs rooms. There is a five day minimum stay for just the upstairs. Prices vary according to the season. Please call to talk to Alan or Kathy. We prefer the personal contact so we can best meet your needs.

  • Amenities include a housekeeper who comes Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. There is laundry service upon request. A phone is available for emergency use with a credit cards (Visa is preferred in Costa Rica), or ATT Collect. One downstairs studio apartment has Dish network satellite TV capability. There is an excellent Costa Rican lady and her daughter to cook some of your meals upon request and availability. There are good local restaurants in the area. Food can be delivered every Friday. We can stock your refrigerator to your order with just about anything you want. Tuesday and Friday the German Bakery stops by with great stuff. We also have a small barbecue for your use. There are three boogie boards available (no charge) Surf board rentals and lessons are available in the area. We will help with all of your day trips- to the volcanoes, waterfalls, river trips, sailing, horseback riding and boat trips.
