Only 1 ½ blocks from “home”, Moonlight Beach is full of activities for everyone. This is a family beach that offers volleyball courts, recreational rentals, and a snack bar. It also has picnic tables on grass or sand, fire pits, barbecues, and a well equipped children’s playground. You can even find a tennis court near coast highway in the park area. There are restrooms and outdoor showers on this beach as well as the main lifeguard station for Encinitas. From Moonlight, going North or South, you will find quiet spots to read and relax where one can enjoy the sea breezes, the sun, and the warm water (these beaches have lifeguards as well).
This wonderful beach is only two blocks west of the village of downtown Encinitas. There you are offered a multitude of diverse restaurants from Jamaican, Italian, Pizzerias, Mexican, Thai and vegetarian. There are coffee houses and, after a day in the sun, nightspots with live band venues all within an easy walk. During the weekend there is the Seaside Bazaar (flea market), and Farmers Market. There is a recently opened Wholefoods Market and just north of the village along Coast Hwy, is an area called Leucadia where you can find more small ethnic food stores and restaurants as well as little shops that would love to share their artistic wares. Also in Leucadia, housed in the old train station, is the Pannikin, a popular coffee house, good for relaxing and people-watching. Downstairs it has locally-produced works of art as well. The Pannikin is three blocks from the 'home'.
Once you arrive and park your car you won’t need to start it again until you leave except to visit the more distant attractions.
If you do want to sight see, we are located in north San Diego County, and centrally located to many popular attractions in San Diego, Orange County, and Mexico. Amongst other activities you’ll find the Del Mar Horse Races/Fair, Legoland, the Wild Animal Park, Sea World, San Diego Zoo, Disneyland, and also La Jolla with its famous shops and Cove. You will also find the Birch Aquarium, and The San Diego Botanical Garden, which claims the largest bamboo collection in the USA , among its many attractions. For nature walks and bird-watching, San Elijo and Batiquitas lagoons, Torrey Pines State Park, and Daley Ranch are worth a visit. You may get to see the endangered California Gnatcatcher or the White-footed Clapper Rail. For quiet meditation the Self-realization Gardens and Ashram are on the south end of the Village.
If you would like to take the train, the Coaster picks up at the station in Encinitas village and runs between Oceanside and the Mexican border (you have to jump on a trolley to go to the border). This inexpensive travel makes stops in Old Town San Diego as well as the main Santa Fe Station downtown near the Gaslamp District, Seaport Village and the San Diego Harbor Walk with its old ships and harbor tours etc.
Year Purchased: 2003
About the owner: I lived in Encinitas as a young mother, with my children and enjoyed riding our horses bareback along the beach or exploring the open countryside with its wildlife and animal trails. I’ve watched dusty alleys and open land give way to custom homes.
Though I’m a seasoned world traveler, I will forever love the little coastal village of Encinitas. It's California at its best!
After 10 wonderful years of enjoying my home, I am now traveling for months instead of days in the year.
It seems like this is a perfect opportunity to welcome others to share this magical spot.
I hope that you feel the same.
Why the Owner Chose Encinitas: Built in 2003, this unique and artistic home incorporates great flow between the indoor and outdoor spaces. Custom designed, the Casa De'ak is situated on a beautiful street filled with lush, tropical flowers and plants and surrounded by palm trees – a walker’s paradise and is just steps from Moonlight Beach and two excellent surfing locations (Stone Steps and Beacons).
A healthy start to the day is to walk, run or bike the eclectic and interesting 2 miles of Neptune Ave. This is a one way street that is famous in these parts as a great place to exercise and socialize. Three beach bikes are provided….perfect for a trip up Neptune.
You can also grab your surfboard and head one block north to Stone Steps for an early morning dip, or a little farther to the south or north to the famous Swami’s beach or Beacons. Both offer world class surfing.
An alternative morning plan is to take a short walk north to the Panniken coffee house on Coast Hwy where you can sit outdoors and munch buns and drink lattes or special teas.
Or if you’d rather just watch the others as they skate board, walk, run and bike, you can simply take your morning cup of preference and step out onto your private deck that looks over this diverse street.
There, as the sun rises, you can throw the doors open wide to smell the ocean and hear the waves throughout the house …and you can safely leave them open to capture the sea breezes since both the front and back decks are upstairs with private indoor access only.
The Unique Benefits at this House: On busy weekends when there is a surf contest or a concert at Moonlight Beach, I step out on my deck and think how lucky I am to be able to enjoy all the benefits that so many people come from miles away to be a part of. An early morning beach walk can often turn into breakfast with friends at a great local cafe.
Even when the weather is 'not good', it is still great (average yearly temperature is 73 degrees). Where else can you find such a terrific environment and such friendly people? Maybe it's the outside living that makes everyone so friendly.
Take an umbrella, beach chair and towel along with your favorite book and head for the sand. Watch the people, take a swim, a nap, another walk, and then head home feeling like the world is your oyster!
To finish off grab a fresh towel and head for the outdoor hot water shower. It’s under the palm trees, private and fun.
Enjoy the barbecue, or head for a nearby eatery, and listen to some live music.
At the end of your day, you will feel exercised (all that walking, swimming and biking etc), rested, fulfilled, and ready to do it all again after a good rest.
This is what I would like to share with you.
