Isleton house description
The first thing that strikes you when you arrive in the California Delta: is this really California? The Delta is unlike the stereotypical California in many ways. The California Delta is the largest estuary in Northern America. It is one of the only few examples of an inverted River Delta. The total area in the California Delta is around 1,100 square miles with around 70 reclaimed islands, surrounded by 1,100 miles of levees and 700 miles of waterways. The California Delta was a marshland reclaimed by the building of the levees. These levees were built by the Chinese laborers in the 1850’s.
Because of its unique ecology and location, the California Delta is rich in history and wildlife. There are many designated historical sites and museums. Some of the wildlife here: otters, beavers, pheasants, egrets, blue herons, cormorants, hawks, eagles, vultures, quails, bats, and amazing birds in flight. Don’t miss the graceful Sand Hill Cranes, which migrates here annually. The Sand Hill Crane is honored here annually at the Sand Hill Crane Festival. Fishing is renowned in the Delta and the fish taste great. Imagine fresh stripers, bass, sturgeon, salmon, catfish, crawdad, and flounder. The peat soil of the California Delta makes it one of the most fertile agricultural areas in the country. There are numerous orchards, U-pick farms, and wineries. Likewise, wild fruits and nuts are abundant for the foragers. This is the ideal location for nature trips, fishing, boating, family reunions, swimming, inner tubing, water skiing, wake boarding, and sightseeing.
The California Delta and its “Thousand Miles of Waterways” is a major recreation destination. The Delta consists of many small natural sloughs and exspansive recreational lake areas. The home resides on Andrus Island along the banks of the Georgiana Slough, a calm pristine deep water channel in the central Delta. Many of the islands here are accessible only by boat, ferry, or aircraft. There are many kinds of draw bridges and even a barge ferry that takes you from one island to another. The warm, breezy summers here is reminiscent of Hawaii; this is your Hawaii on the main land. This is the closest you get to Hawaii without the hassle and the expense of traveling to Hawaii.
The Oxbow Marina is centrally located at the entrance to the Delta Loop. It is near Isleton, Rio Vista, Walnut Grove, and Locke (Delta Chinatown). You are near restaurants, grocery shopping, museums, and bait shops. Some of the unique restaurants by land or boat from our dock are: Moore’s River Boat, Guisti’s, the Point, Tower Park, Foster’s Big Horn, Rojelio's, Al the Whop, the Grand Island Mansion, and the Ryde Hotel. Nearby are also the Rio Vista Trilogy Golf Course and a nine-hole par 3 at the Ryde Hotel. The Oxbow Marina is located on Andrus Island, accessible by both land and water. The house sits waterfront on a natural oxbow. The Oxbow Marina features guest docks, club house, and a boat launch. The grounds are lush with towering palm groves, fruits trees, and well-maintained flat lawns for a game of Bocci or Horseshoe. There is a full playground for children. The marina has a swimming pool and a club house available for people who dock their boat with the marina. Or, jump in and float down the river around the natural oxbow loop for 20-30 minutes to the marina dock and walk back to the house in five minutes. The house is waterfront with a large deck and a boat dock on the Georgiana Slough. The spacious covered deck has gorgeous views of the Delta. The dock is ideal for fishing, swimming, and boating. This is a perfect location for entertaining or just relaxing. There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The living room couch has a pull out queen bed. The master bedroom has a king size bed and the guest room has a queen size bed and both beds are solid Rosewood carved in China and shipped here. There is a well equipped over-sized in-door kitchen and an outdoor BBQ grill and sink. The deck has a small refrigerator and two separate eating areas. Enjoy amazing views of the sunrise from various places in the house. Or, step out on to the deck and breathe in fresh crisp morning air while savoring the sunrise over a cup of coffee. Later in the day, stroll down the marina levee and gaze at the spectacular sunset. Look again, see a flock of birds flying over the painted sky – these are the amazing birds of the Delta. As the birds fly over the waterways, you ponder your navigation to San Francisco, and to the world.
