Pet-Friendly Cottage on Large Private Lot Near Blue Ridge Parkway
- Minimum stay:2 nights

- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
FIVE OAKS is a 1940 bungalow-style cottage on nearly 2 secluded acres just minutes from downtown Bedford, and just a short drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Smith Mt. Lake, Lynchburg, or Roanoke. The 2 bedroom, 1 bath house has spacious rooms with traditional decor, heart-pine floors, a modern kitchen with vintage flair, and a huge front porch with views of a pasture and pond below. Free satellite TV and wireless broadband Internet are provided. Dogs of all sizes are welcome with an additional pet fee. The house has keyless entry for ease of access and security; a unique code will be provided in the reservation acceptance email.
Enjoy a cool drink on the expansive front porch, or take a walk along the hayfield at dawn or dusk to see wildlife. Pass through the grove at back to have a family meal on the picnic tables. Curl up on the sofa with a good book, or play badminton in the backyard (racquets and shuttlecocks are on the back porch). Run 1/4 mi. laps on the drive, or bike across the road. And, of course, take a trip to enjoy the sights, sounds, and tastes of the Blue Ridge, including the Winery Trail. When you're tired from all your adventures, the master bedroom has a queen bed with plush mattress and your choice of pillows. The second bedroom has two beds, one full and one twin, with Teddy bears, books, rocking horse, and a toy box, sure to amuse young children for hours (they've been kid tested!). Maximum capacity is 2 adults and 2 children.
We want guests to enjoy every minute of their stay at Five Oaks, so we provide similar amenities to a standard hotel room, including clean, fresh linens, tea and coffee w/coffee maker, basic toiletries, and plenty of paper products. The kitchen is fully equipped, and the bath is updated in vintage style. In addition to wireless Internet, some mobile networks such as T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon can be accessed from the house, so web browsing via your smartphone is also possible. The stereo has an MP3 adapter so you can bring your own music to enjoy. After each guest checks out, the house is thoroughly cleaned and inspected. We hope you choose to stay with us and experience a little of the charm of days gone by, with all the electronic conveniences of today.

My husband and I just spent three nights/four days at Five Oaks. It is easy to get to but seems like it is out in the country. Our dog enjoyed roaming around the property, and the house has everything you need for time away from it all. We enjoyed the proximity to historical sites (such as the D Day Memorial and Poplar Forest) and hiking (The Peaks of Otter and McAfee's Knob on the Appalachian Trail). We enjoyed a great dinner at Liberty Station in downtown Bedford, and also utilized the great kitchen at Five Oaks. This is a great place to get away and relax, and there is just enough to do in the area that you won't get bored.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you for your detailed review. We also enjoy the "away from it all" feel yet the close proximity to town and local attractions. We're glad your dog had a good time there too!

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2002
About the owner: We're a military family, so we've moved around a lot, but we always love to come home to our house in Bedford.
Why the Owner Chose Bedford:
We purchased the house as our future retirement home, after many years of vacationing in the Bedford, VA area. We especially liked this house for its vintage charm, with rural seclusion yet easy access to shopping, dining, and activities.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
The massive white oak beside the house has always held a special place in our hearts, so much so that we named the place Five Oaks in honor of all the beautiful oak trees on the property. The serene front porch is another favorite spot for us, to read, rest, watch for wildlife, or stargaze at night. We hope you will enjoy them too!
