Solitude condo description
This unit, in Solitude's newest building, Eagle Springs West, completed in 2003, faces the inner Village area where all the fun can be observed. Tastefully decorated with work from local artists, the well maintained unit provides 850 sq ft of living space. The 1 BR /1 BA unit has a King bed in the bedroom and two comfortable Queen pull-out sofas. While the unit is rated to sleep 6, certainly in the space available it is better suited to serve four adults; six if there are small children in the party. The large bathroom has two sinks, plenty of towel racks and a high quality washer/dryer for those emergencies that can occur in a family. The unit is fully furnished with all the amenities needed for a long term stay; more than sufficient for shorter stays. The Main Desk at Solitude Lodging is staffed 24 hours a day providing all the services one would expect and support to respond to any emergency.
Multiple units are available in the village for larger groups. Solitude, designed as an Alpine Village in Utah's Wasatch Mountains, sits at 8000 ft elevation. The air is clear and fresh, summer temperatures range much cooler than in Salt Lake Valley. Mountain lakes and streams abound with all the attending activities: hiking and exploring in the former silver mining region, mountain biking, wild flowers and wild life. Deer and moose are abundant in the canyon, in addition to a variety of birds and smaller mammals. In the summer, a short drive (gravel road) across Gardsman Pass drops into Park City and Deer Valley, two of Utah's major ski resorts. There find summer concerts, art festivals, outstanding dining options, and a short cut to Interstate 80 and points east.
Fall colors, beginning in mid-September, are very impressive. The Wasatch Range are made up of huge mountains with deep canyons. The walls of the canyons are covered primarily with Aspen and evergreens. As the colors begin to develop in September, the deciduous Aspen's bright yellow tones stand out brilliantly against the darker evergreen, the colors ranging up to a 1000 feet above the observer.
On the resort property there are outside activities for all ages. Bike paths abound in the mountains; take a chair lift (small fee) with a bike up 1000 ft elevation and enjoy a downhill ride through the trees and wild flowers. Hikers can use the same chair lift to gain elevation and begin hikes to various summits. A hike up Silver Fork Canyon will lead to an overlook into Little Cottonwood Canyon and Alta Ski resort. Along the way the remains of the canyon's glory days of silver mining can be observed.
Alternately, team up with your group for a high altitude Frisbee Golf event. The 'holes' are scattered around the main ski area for easy access, but presents a definite challenge to both 'golf' and Frisbee skills.
Winter, of course, is the season Solitude was built to address. Cold temperatures of the Wasatch Range, and the nearby availability of moisture from the Great Salt Lake provides the fluffiest snow known to skiers. The resort averages over 500 inches of snowfall a year, with temperatures rarely reaching the melting range, provides a long season of soft snow. Add to that the absence of lift lines, and the large skiable area, untracked snow can be found many days after a snow fall. The resort definitely lives up to its name. Solitude -- in the Wasach.

About: Owners Dave and Muriel are both retired from long careers as educators and now are enjoying the retired life. Muriel taught third grade and assisted with teacher training in language arts; Dave taught Chemistry and Astronomy at the college level. Avid skiers for years, averaging 2-3 ski days per season due to family and work commitments, but now have time to enjoy more time in the winter setting. We enjoy Solitude as a regular ski stop during the season, often proceed on to Colorado to ski the Vail properties. Two adult children, one providing us with a pair of grand-dogs, the other just recently married, keep us traveling since they, as their parents also choose, found careers some distance from their childhood home. Pictured here, we are on the mountain at Solitude with the village in the background. An awesome place.
We were impressed with the quaint and friendly feeling of Solitude Village. We loved the soft Utah powder and the long ski season the resort experienced over the years. It is an ideal location for us as we often find ourselves traveling between the West Coast and the Midwest. WE have found it to be a well managed resort. Resort Owner and village 'Head Resident', Gary, takes a personal pride, assuring that life in the village is a quality experience. Finally, on our first visit to the resort to consider purchasing a condo, we came across a large moose on the drive up the canyon. That was such an intriguing experience for Dave, the possibility of purchasing became a real consideration. I'm thinking perhaps, the moose was a plant!
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
We often drive to the midwest, Solitude becomes our home away from home. A place to stop off for a few days to rest and recover from the miles of travel. Summer of 2010 is an excellent example. Family commitments are taking us to a Fiftieth Wedding anniversary in Iowa, family visits in South Dakota and the weddings for two nieces, one in Anchorage the other near Boulder, Colorado. We drove to Solitude and used Salt Lake City as our Base to fly to distant destinations.
