The entire experience was excellent. We were six: my wife, nice, mother and father in law. We stayed 4 nights, 5 days. The house is very comfortable, 3 BedR with a BathR per. The house is about 1km from the Ferry port in a very quite area. The house has no TV, which it was actually better for us to stay truly disconnected from the world. The house is clean and has the necessary appliances. You must rent a car to really get to know the island. I

This was a great base for us with our three adult "kids." It's well-appointed and maintained, with a well-equipped kitchen. The original art on the walls was above any beyond the decor in a typical rental property. The front porch is a great place to sip morning coffee and read. A couple of minor issues were immediately addressed by the friendly and capable manager. We have recommended it to friends already.

We had a fabulous time in Vieques and found Casa de la Rusa to be very inviting and comfortable. John and Vera made the entire reservation process very simple and they provided us with a lot of information about the island that we found extremely helpful. All in all, we had a great trip and it was nice to come back to the house after a long day in the water and just sit on the front porch and enjoy the view. We look forward to visiting again in the future!! The Mitchell family

Casa de la Rusa is a beautiful house, greatly located on the top of the hill with nice views and fantastic breezes. The house is very well equipped with all modern conveniences and it is tastefully furnished. There are three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, very spacious living room and full open concept kitchen. Complementing this is a beautiful porch and a very pleasant back yard. There are many really nice subtle touches around the house, such as CD player with a stack of tastefully selected music, playing cards, magazines and books. We really enjoyed staying at Casa de la Rusa. Relaxing here in the evening was priceless. It basically “made” our vacation on the island. The owners, Vera and John are very nice and kind and tremendously helpful with many tips pertaining to the island, the beaches, dining scene, car rentals, etc, etc. The property manager JoAnn is just as nice and attentive. She was very helpful during our arrival and departure and was always available on the phone, although not needed because everything was just great with the house. We travel a fair bit throughout the World and this was one of our best experiences regarding the property, the owners and the caretaker and we highly recommend Casa de la Rusa to anyone who wants to enjoy the island of Vieques and its beautiful beaches. For us this villa was just a perfect home. Thank you, Vera and John.

Casa De La Rusa in a word is magnificent. All the rooms are decorated tastefully. The beds were super comfortable. We had a futon that we let a couple staying across the street use on two occasions to take advantage of the AC. Without the AC not sure what I would have done. We had a fully functional stovetop to work with. We found out later that oven was not working, only broiled. The washer/dryer setup in the back of the house was also invaluable. Around the house you will find numerous fruit trees, make sure to take a look at the mango tree in the back. We had a great dinner on a few occasions overlooking the vast ocean scene that can be seen on the porch. There is no cable in the house but there is no need for it when you should be out and about on the island trying to see all the different sights. The house is less than 2 minutes away by car from the ferry. Same distance for grocery store and some local restaurants. All the beautiful beaches are about 15 to 20 minutes away. Joann the property manager was amazing when we first arrived. She went out of her way to give us a ride to Casa De La Rusa as the rental car place was closed by the time we arrived. Not only did she give us a ride, but she also managed to bring us to the grocery store to make sure we were all set for the following morning. Thank you Joann!!!! This house added to the wonderful stay that I had in Vieques. I plan on returning every year from now on. Best beaches in the world, best snorkling I have ever done, local food is great, mango's everywhere for you to eat, all in all, MAGNIFICENT!

What first sold us on the rental was John and Vera. They have to be the two sweetest people alive. After talking with them we knew that this place had to be special! Casa De la Rusa did not disappoint. Joan, created a happy anniversary for my wife and I by staging the place for our arrival with salads, fruit, a birthday cake (for Me) and sparkling juice. Since it was only two of us, we had the Whole place to ourselves. We woke every morning to the natural music of nature. The spacious and more than functional Kitchen made for great and beautifully prepared meals. Although the home is full of immaculate furnishings, our most favorite place to eat breakfast was on the front porch overlooking the inviting Caribbean waters. It just feels nice to have a wondrous view of two islands over for breakfast. The palms and well kept property reminded us every day to relax and take in the fresh air (something that we don't get a lot of in the city"). So, some days we hoped for rain so we could have an excuse to stay home to lay out in the hammock. Casa De La Rusa is located in Isabel Segunda, a small town on the island of Vieques. The people are friendly. There were numerous times we were mistaken for natives. Isabel II is full of surprising entrepreneur's shops including an internet Cafe that rivals "Starbucks". The food is outstanding. Tradewinds has some pretty good fried fish and I'm a North Carolina kid (go Duke) so I know good fish when I taste it. Williams Pizza is the greatest unknown pizza parlor and "Richard's" has the biggest lobster I have ever seen. It was the first time that I have been full after one scrumptious lobster. We were so sad on our last day that we were plotting on how to get back next year. The home was wonderful. It was warm inviting and beautiful. We met the neibors who were adorable. We also got a chance to meet "Natasha" the cutie pie puppy. There is not enough room to accurately give a thorough account of our experience. We would recommend this to any married couple, family, or just one person who would like to just get away to the best rental in the No. 1 Caribbean destination. PS John and Vera: Thank You, I used to have a grandmother who stayed in Dunn, NC. There was one room in her home that I could always go to to regain my peace (sometimes my sanity). She is now living in the paradise, but the very same peace I used to get when I was there is the same that I got at your home. For 1 week It was paradise to me and my wife.

The place is really nice, well decorated plus the area is quiet and friendly. We enjoyed the balcony with the nice view on the island of Culebra and the hammock especially! The house was perfect for a party of 8 and the three bathroom were really convenient. 2 minutes of car from the ferry and 8 minutes from the airport. We highly recommend la Casa de la Rusa!!!

As the destination for my first vacation in 4 years I had high expectations! These were completely exceeded by this gorgeous property overlooking the island with magnificent views of the ocean. The house was clean, well kept and seemed designed for relaxation and unwinding after the hectic pace of life in Washington DC. I would recommend this house to anyone (you can be at the beautiful Sun Beach in 10 minutes!!!) and its the perfect place to sit back, relax and drink in the world around you! If you like good resteraunts - they are sprinkled all over the island! Highly recommend Chez Shack!

Casa de la Rusa met and exceeded our expectations for a vacation home in Puerto Rico! Beautiful, well-kept, modern home with all the ememities you could ask for. Amazing view of the ocean, perfect for sipping your morning coffee or enjoying a glass of wine in the evening. The bedrooms were stylish with beautiful beds, linens and comfortable mattresses. We loved that each bedroom had it's own bathroom for privacy. We also loved that we had access to a washer and dryer. We can't wait to come back soon!!

My family literally fell in love with Vieques and especially Casa de la Rusa. The beautiful, well-appointed house is on a hill with a wonderful view of the island and just minutes from numerous pristine beaches and nature preserves. Only regret is that we weren't able to stay for a longer period of time... I highly recommend Casa de la Rusa. Can't wait to return to this inviting house.

Thanks to John and Vera for setting up such a wonderful home base for our time on Vieques. The bedrooms were perfect for the three couples staying in the house, with comfortable beds and light breezes. The kitchen provided the venue for the beginning and end of the day, with excellent produce found at Buen Provecho leading to tasty meals enjoyed by all. We especially liked the large front porch with an ocean view and cool breezes-- perfect with a deck of cards and a few Medallas. The place has been well taken care of and is clean. We were very close to the ferry, restaurants, and other sevices. Thanks again for the reasonably priced home away from home and all the help finding a rental car and providing advice on making everything work for us.

We LOVED Vieques and Casa de la Rusa in particular. The house is so comfortable and well-appointed. The owners have obviously taken great care, with much attention to detail, to make the house a haven for your time at Vieques. Unique artwork and handsome furnishings give the feel of a five star hotel. The breezy front porch offers views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Island of Culebra. There is also a hammock that is perfect for afternoon napping. I loved the hammock! The kitchen is updated and well-equipped. The house also has an excellent stero system with an incredible selection of music. This place is just great. Vieques itself is tremendous - the beaches are prisitne and empty, scuba diving and snorkelling is fantastic. And the Bio Bay is an experience unlike any you'll have elsewhere. I highly recommend Casa de la Rusa.

Casa de la Rusa was a great "home" to begin our visit on Vieques. It is beautifully furnished, with comfortable beds and a well-equipped kitchen. There were 6 of us and we had lots of room to relax. We enjoyed the porch and ate most of our meals there. We were glad that the caretaker met us at the airport, as it is a little tricky to find.

We spent a wonderful week on Vieques in February, 2007, renting this marvelous 3-bedroom, 3-bath house near the north coastal town of Isabel Secunda. The house was large for the two of us, and was fully equipped with tile floors throughout--first island house we have ever rented that included a washer and drier! This enabled us to pack minimally, and was a great convenience. The view from near a hilltop was nice, and for those who have an aversion to rooster crowing, it might seem a little difficult in the mornings (but that would be true for most of the island), Casa de la Rusa would be ideal for three couples or a large family. In extensive travels, there are very few places to which we would return, but Vieques and Casa de la Rusa are certainly on that list! Our comments on the island are posted in TripAdvisor under the discussion section with a February 24, 2007 date, since they do not yet have a place for comments in individual homes.

We had a great time in Vieques in January of 2006 - beautiful weather all the way, fantastic warm tropical waters, beautiful scenery, and a wonderful stay at the Casa de la Rusa. One day we were sitting on the porch enjoying the late afternoon when we heard barking from the driveway - a minute later, a dog chased a horse into the backyard of the house! They looked more like they were playing than anything else - the horse left an hour or so afterwards. Thanks for letting us stay in this gorgeous location - we really enjoyed ourselves. We had a great week in Vieques in March, 2006. Vieques is one of the last hidden jewels in the Caribbean (shush, don't tell anyone!!) The house is as advertized-- very clean, new appliances in a beautiful setting with some wonderful local dogs who will make friends with you for the week. John and Vera were easy to work with and quite prompt with returning the deposit. We will definitely come back to the Island and Casa de la Rusa.

My wife and I recently were maried in Vieques and we rented 6 villas on the island and some rooms at the Martineau Bay Resort. The Ruser's place was fabulous! Of the Villas their's was the nicest and the best priced. We had a great time and plan to go back. The house was beautiful and everything you could expect. The island was super and the beaches are breath taking! We can't wait to get back. We were both so lucky to have found Casa Dela Rusa!

Vera and John, The four of us had a great stay in your beautiful home. The beds were very comfortable, the kitchen had everything we needed, the porch was perfect for morning coffee and evening drinks, and the hammock, as well as the choice of CDs, made it hard to leave for the beach. (We did fit in plenty of swimming, snorkeling, and exploring.) Although it was hot while we were there, the elevation of the house invited lovely night time breezes so that we never needed the air conditioner. A perfect lazy vacation- thank you. Dear John and Vera, Thank you for being so prompt with the security deposit. We received it on Friday. We just want to let you know what a wonderful time we had on Vieques and specifically in your villa. It was so clean and nice. We enjoyed meeting the neighbors and felt so much at home. Paul and I hope to buy some property in the islands someday for retirement and we fell in love with Vieques and your villa. If you ever decide to sell let us know! In the meantime we will enjoy renting from you. We are already thinking about when we can go back next year. Thanks again, Paul, Jill, and Alex Duplessie Holden, Maine

Thanks for sharing your lovely house on Vieques. It was beautiful, furnished very nicely and comfortable. Denise met us and delivered us to the house. We loved the horses grazing in the yard, chickens and the visiting dog. And the view!! I guess we had unusually high temps for end of September so were grateful for the air conditioning.
