Cook cabin description
The charm of the vintage 1950’s cottage shines with hand-craftmanship and all of the comforts of modern living.
It takes you back to a simpler time and place to breathe, relax and enjoy the ones you love. It is your private piece of paradise.
The interior features new knotty pine walls, new hand laid Australian cedar hardwood floors and carpet. The brand new kitchen is fully stocked, including a side by side refrigerator, stove top, M/W, countertop oven, coffee maker, blender, toaster, pots, pans, dishes, glassware, utensils and kettle BBQ (BYO charcoal). The bathroom is remodeled, includes a new shower. One bedroom has a queen bed the other has three twins. The living room has a pull out sofa bed, comfortable double size. The open floor plan including the living room, dining area and kitchen is designed with large picture windows that offer spectacular views of the lake. All linens are provided including bath towels, sheets and blankets (Guests provide their own beach towels.)
The cottage shore has a beach that is perfect for young children. It is sandy, shallow, and crystal clear, just steps from the cottage. The cottage is set on a beautiful wooded lot 35 feet from the water with 90 feet of private lake shore. The lawn gently slopes to the beach, perfect for lawn games. The entrance side of the cabin has a deck with views of the lake.
The boathouse has a second story deck overlooking the water with a panoramic open water view. It is a great place to relax at sun set, sitting on the Adirondack chairs with a cool drink in hand. Evenings can be spent around the lakeside campfire circle, listening to the loons.
There is a private dock for your boat to get going anytime with ease. Bring your fishing gear, water-skis, wakeboards, tubes. We have two free kayaks and a canoe for you to explore the 365 islands and wildlife.
There are places nearby to rent watercraft and fishing guides, Spring Bay Resort 218-666-5607 and Moosebirds 218-666-2627. The public landing is adjacent to The Landing Bar and Restaurant (3096 Vermilion Drive, Cook, MN 55723) less than a mile down the road from the cottage.
Caroline’s Cottage is a great location for this lake. It is easy to get to and from the main road. You can walk down to Moosebirds Store for bait, ice cream cones, coffee, sundries, souvenirs, and boat gas or boat rental. Spring Bay Resort offers boat rental and fishing guides. The Landing Restaurant is on the water just a few steps up the road next to the Public Boat Launch. On the main road to Cook there is a relaxing nine hole, par 36, golf course or for the golf enthusiast try The Wilderness golf course at Fortune Bay Casino.

So relaxing….. Our stay was very relaxing. The cabin is completely refurbished and was very beautiful inside. We enjoyed cooking, BBQing, kayaking, and swimming. Sunrises and sunsets were a highlight. We had a terrific time.

We stayed two weeks and had a wonderful time. The cabin is clean, updated and has everything you need. There are two docks and the beach is small with sandy bottom. We enjoyed the kayaks and canoe. Big lake with many destinations and places to visit. Enjoyed the loons and eagles. There are some quirky connections with the Wi-Fi and the cable TV. Low water pressure and we were glad there was a clean outhouse since the septic had issues. Beautiful setting. Comfortable and cozy cabin. Owners were friendly, helpful and available. We will recommend this cottage and return.

Owner response: Jerry, It was great to meet you and I am glad you enjoyed your stay. Since you left we fixed the water pressure (realized the filter needed changing. We will now stay on top of that!), the electrician fixed the electrical issue with the wifi and we had the septic guy out. Thank you for bringing those issues to our attention, this is our first full summer and we are happy to address any inconveniences that may arise. Hope to see you next year!

Peaceful & Private
Lovely cabin - cozy & comfortable with all the necessary amenities. Very private yet at a perfect location for a quick jaunt for an afternoon ice cream cone (done daily). Would recommend it for anyone who would like to “get away from it all”. Owners are very accommodating. The only thing that could have made it better was cooperation from mother nature (weather).

Owner response: Thanks Elaine, it makes us feel great that you enjoyed your stay!
Caroline's Cottage is an amazing place. Perfect for a family wanting a little space to just relax. Clean, quiet, rustic and affordable. We didn't even turn the TV on! The owners were gracious and helpful. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was it is challenging to park at (private driveway but steep) and we didn't have a place to park our boat trailer. However don't let that stop you from renting this gorgeous place.

Owner response: Thank you for your feedback. So glad you enjoyed our cottage. Our driveway is a bit hard to navigate with a boat and trailer. Since your visit we have found a new place to launch and leave your trailer, much more convenient. Enjoy the rest of your summer:) marci
This is a wonderful cottage in a lovely setting. All the comforts of home with plenty of space for 4 of us. Great for fishing - - kept our boat just a few steps away. Kids loved the kayaks and used them almost every day. Highly recommend.

spent 2 weeks here and the time flew by. not nearly as rustic as owners describe. Only really rustic part was the wood interior which by the way is an excellent job. Great beach area, my dog loved walking right into the water. Great use of land. Kitchen was perfect size. Great comforters in both bedrooms. Nice personal touches throughout (bars of soap, candles and a welcome bottle of wine).

About the owner: When David and I first married we had a dream of owning a cabin on Lake Vermilion. I grew up canoeing in the Boundary Waters National Park and Vermilion borders this park. In 1995 we bought island property on Vermilion and have raised our family enjoying the summers on Lake Vermilion. The time we spend in this magical place have created memories that have bonded us together in a way that would not have happened in Minneapolis. The beauty of this place never ceases to take my breath away. My muscles relax the minute we see the water. In 2012 we bought the cutest vintage 1950's cabin on the mainland and named it Caroline's Cottage. It has been lovingly restored with hand-craftmandhsip. We want to share the Vermilion experience with you! We want you to feel like it is your own retreat and to offer you a place to create memories you will not forget, year after year. David, Marci, Lauren, Ellen and Caroline
