Why the Owner Chose Dunmore Town
The owners father taught school for the catholic church (only school at that time) on the island in 1965, he decided to make a second home there. Jessica partially grew up on the island and is happy to be able to share the island expreince with WaterColor's guests.
The Unique Benefits of this House
We love coffee/tea in the morning on the front porch. Often walking the very short distance down to the dock with it and watching the fisherman head out for the day.
We love happy hour in the evening on the upper deck (outdoor living) viewing the sunset and enjoying the quiet.
In between we enjoy running and yoga on the beach, boating/snorkeling/ fishing in the harbour, the pool at Romora and everyting a day on the island has to offer.
Dinner at The Landing (another very short walk)is a favorite, dinner on the antique french outdoor dining table at WaterColor with family and friends is even better.

To begin, as far as Watercolour's description goes on VRBO, it was very accurate. The photos gave us an idea of what to expect, to say the least. Very charming, welcoming. The property was very neat and maintained, located on King Street in Harbour Island. An ideal location for any and all types of visitor. Any queries we had regarding the property and/or it's location were seen to, it was a very smooth transition to and from Watercolour. I would recommend Watercolour to all those interested. We certainly had our fun and comfort needs met. Harbour Island is a magical place, and Watercolour only added to the beauty.

I stayed at watercolor as recently as this summer. The accommodations were charming, British Colonial Island architecture and decor. I especially enjoyed the recent updates done to the one bedroom guest room/cottage. It was very private, you could not hear any street noise at all. The new french doors were great, along with the wardrobe closet recently built to fit with the room. Sitting on the front porch/verandah in the morning, enjoying my coffee and watching the people walking to their morning destinations was a treat.

i rented this cottage in summer 2010. The main bedroom is not airconditioned and is unusable in teh summer. The two extra beds in this room are right under the roof. Anyone who attempted to use them in the summer would die of heat stroke. The person in our party who was going to sleep in this room ended up sleeping on the sofa in the "parlour" which is actually the front hall. The second bedroom actually is a passthrough room between the kitchen and the outdoor dining area and has a pulldown bed. The third bedroom is in the garage. A previous reviewer's comments are totally accurate in that the photos posted on the website must be years old. EVERYTHING in the house is broken cracked damaged and on top of that the house was filthy when we arrived. I complained to the owner and asked for a part refund and was refused one. You should not in any circumstances pay the damage deposit because how would they determine what you had damaged when everything is already damaged? A spectacular misrepresentation and rip-off.
Owner response:I completely disagree with this response. First off, this guest writes this a year and a half after staying on Harbour Island basing comments about photos that have been updated since, which are 100% accurate as were the photos and description at the time of her booking. The renters post and prior to this guests stay appreciated the house and I will try to get feedback Responses to this guest We added an AC unit to the main bedroom in June, 2011, though when this person rented I was very clear that there was not! All three bedrooms have ac and ceiling fans, really only necessary in the summer months. There is also new furniture in all of the bedrooms as of 2011. We have never offered accommodations in the master loft (the two twin beds), it is used for personal guest over-flow only (our children love it) and that is clearly specified on the agreement and not advertised as part of the six person sleeping arrangement. Our response: WaterColor was built in the late 1790’s and the front room “parlour” is part of the original house, it is definitely not a hall, it is charming and has enough space in it for a sofa-bed, loveseat, tables and chairs. I do not know of any hallways that accommodate this much furniture yet still feel light and open, this room also has ac. The 2nd bedroom is off the front living room, part of the main house and there are four different doors/ options to get to the outdoor dining area from the kitchen, this happens to be the most direct but not there are three others ways. This bedroom has a very comfortable queen bed which happens to be a murphy bed so it can either be used as a bedroom or a second living space. This room has the television and stereo as well. My favorite bedroom actually which has a large bathroom with lots of storage space. The 3rd. bedroom was originally a boat house (watercolor is one of the original boat captains cottages) that now has beautiful custom French doors and is many of the guest’s favorite bedrooms including my 68 year old mother and our teenagers. We love feedback, both good and bad and do everything to accommodate our guests. WaterColor is clean, comfortable and 99% of our guests love it. Thank you for taking the time to read our response, it is upsetting how detrimental this guests opinion can be and we hope it will not deter you from a wonderful experience.

I did stay at Watercolor. Perhaps my review was a bit harsh. There was some stress to the vacation which had nothing to do with the cottage and I very much needed my sleep. Others of our party who stayed longer said there were no more parties or preaching for the rest of their vacation. Watercolor is a charming old cottage. The beds are comfortable, the kitchen has everything you need, the showers are hot and strong. The one broken plastic chair on the crow's nest easily can be replaced. Please consider my rating as GOOD.

Harbour Island is a treasure of a destination, but the convenience of Watercolor Cottage is a mixed blessing: wonderful to walk everywhere and to feel a part of the bustle of island life, disturbing to be kept awake by neighbors' parties, evangelical preaching (over a loudspeaker) and music from nightclubs until 4:30am. Roosters crowing seemed like nothing compared to human noises! As I look over the photos on this site, I think they must have been taken awhile ago as there are more broken pieces of furniture now. For example, there is no place to sit when you go up on the top deck to watch the beautiful sunsets. All in all it was a good vacation, but this cottage needs some TLC from its owners. Nothing to be done about the noise.
Owner response:Unclear who this guest is as we did not rent to an Oliver during this time and the guest we did rent to loved the house, her name was Peggy?? But in response; there is plenty of furniture on the upper deck and plastic chairs for the crow’s nest. The crow’s nest is in direct sun and often other weather, so it is difficult to maintain anything nicer way up there. We do our best to maintain a nearly 300 yr. old cottage and it is very comfortable, clean and well looked after. There is always work to be done.. Labor of Love! As far as neighbors parties, we have not experienced this - There is not a lot of direct contact with neighbors as it is rather private in the back garden.. but if so, we'd probably end up joining them:). Preachers and night club.. depends on the wind direction. This is only during holiday times and we love it! If the noise bothers, turn on a fan to tune it out. Or enjoy the preachers message. We have gone on family adventures trying to find where the preaching might be coming from - end up walking through boat yards, etc.. to end up in a tiny church and watch a revival, always an adventure awaiting on Harbour Island - Relax and Enjoy! ps- we love guest feedback, it is very helpful.

Loved loved loved your charming home. Thank you so much. Enjoyed the privacy of the back garden and dining area, the observing from the front porch, the cozy inside and the outdoor shower. Princess was great! The dining and especially walking everywhere, loved that! What a beach and that view from the crows nest at sunset - wow. Thank you so very much, we will return.
