Mahalo (thank you) for taking the time to view my home, located in a small oceanside community called Kapoho. Although we call it Vacation Land. This small remote region that rests on the very South East Point of the Big Island of Hawaii, is home to the best snorkeling reserve found on any of the islands. It's easy to get to, has no traffic, no traffic lights, no large tourist crowds, no hotels, no motels and the region is surrounded by papaya groves and orchid ranches and farms. You pass through tropical rainforests most of the way down to Kapoho.
The Kapoho tidepoools, otherwise known as the Wai Opea Marine Wild Life Preserve, is home to the most incredible snorkeling reserve found anywhere in Hawaii. Just a 4 minute walk from our front door you'll discover this vast ocean region with many individual tidepools. These tidepools are safe, due to our outreaching volcanic shelf that keeps the pounding surf at bay. The tidepools, as shown in the pictures below are many. Some as deep as 40 feet and some as shallow as a couple of feet, but, all are teeming with tropical fish of all species, and the most beautiful coral formations you'll find anywhere in Hawaii.....No worries about sharks because of the shallow reef at the edge of the tidepools.
Since Kapoho and our tiny oceanside village is right on the south east point, we receive the easterly tropical trade winds. It is incredible to sit and relax on our lanai, even on the hottest of days, and experience the cool trades.
Our home, as shown below, sits 500 feet from the ocean. The views from our wrap around decks, upstairs, Downstairs as seen in pics is strictly storage area. Coconut trees are everywhere. Natural fauna is in abundance in our whole community, and of course, from the rear wrap around walkway, an nice ocean view.
We have all the floors tiled, inside and out. The Lanai wraps around the upstairs covered by the extra large eves. Walk all the way around to all the bedrooms that have slider glass doors/screens that open out to our decks, so anytime night or day you can just pull up a chair and relax and view the tropical rain forests. Even when it's pouring rains, because of the overhead roof, you'll never get a drop of rain on you.
We have a full open kitchen with all cookware, ,and appliances. Cable television and Internet. dvd, surround sound in our towering cupala over the living room area.
We have ceiling fans in every room, and on the lanai. The back star viewing lanai has a BBQ. There is a custom handicap friendly stair case that leads 14 feet up to house plus a two car enclosed garage with door opener. Very important because it keeps your rental car safe from falling coconuts.
We have a master bedroom with a private bathroom and large jacuzzi bathtub. Lots of fine Art and a nice library, Free phone calling to the mainland, Wonderful neighbors next door. Our back yard is forest, no neighbor, and new neighbor building on the North side of the house. Lots and lots of privacy.
Our block called Kahonua, is on the far east side of the community, so, we get the unobstructed ocean trades and our block consists of 9 brand new homes. All are gorgeous Hawaiian homes like mine. There's only 10 homes on our block.
We are represented, in Hawaii, by 'LOCAL HAWAIIAN REAL ESTATE'. Winston Churchill, RS66870, seriously, is our licensed property manager. Winston can be reached at either 808-960-1926 or his email address is winston@winstonshawaii.com.
You can reach me, DARRYL 'SPARKY' HERZON, at 661-944-5044. This is my HOME telephone in LA. I always love it when folks call me so I can take them to websites that clearly depict Kapoho. You can call Winston for available dates and booking or do it online here at VRBO. We do not charge a fortune to reserve our home. $200 dollars security deposit. We go through PayPal.com for our payments for your security and will reserve our home for your vacation, for up to one year in advance. Which I highly suggest.
Kaphoo just a few years ago, was a hidden treasure. Primarily because there are no hotels around, so travel agencies do not tend to promote our region, like they do with Kona or Waikiki. As time has passed and more and more families discover Kapoho, it has become a very popular region for peaceful adventures in snorkeling, black sand beaches, and lava flow viewing from the PuuOo crater. As seen on travelocity commercials. And, we're only 1 hour from Volcano National Park, where you can always view the awesome Powers of Kilahuea.
Make sure to click on the sight seeing link and the Ahalanui geo thermal warm ponds will appear. This is 3 minutes drive from our front door and you get a great idea of what the entire region of Kapoho looks like.
This home, called the Kahonua Hale has been a vacation rental for the past 3 years, since my son and I built it. We took 4 of long long years plus a lot of hoops to jump through because this is such a remote area, but it is an incredible region and the house itself is soooo much fun.
Being in the Motion Picture Industry, several well known people have come and stayed in our home. We never thought that our home would become so popular, but it has. And, if you would like email addresses of recent and past guests, Kathy (my wonderful wife) and I would be more than proud to give them to you.
I thank you for viewing my ad, and I do hope you enjoy the website. Call me and I can take you to more websites and please Google Pahoa Hawaii. Pahoa is our nearest town. 8 miles from the house. Pahoa has great restaurants, shopping, open air markets on Sunday, wooden sidewalks, museum, urgent care, fuel, and the best fish and chips I've ever eaten.
For all you Surfers our there, like me, we have Pohoiki bay, just five minutes down the road. Never really crowded, good for advanced and beginning surfers. Up to Hilo and Honolee bay has the best surfing on the Big Island.
Now. Here's a few pics.My home is represented by Local Hawaiian Real Estate. Winston Churchill. 808-960-1926 or you can call me Direct. My name is Darryl Herzon and I am the owner builder of the house you see below. Also look at the Shutterfly album. Don't forget to go to YouTube.com and view the Kapoho Tide Pools videos.
Aloha and welcome to my paradise.

Loved the house and location. The house was so inviting and Daryl and Windston were great with making us feel at home and pointing out the sites. The snorkeling was close and excellent, like an aquarium! The location is so tropical and beautiful, away from the city. Very relaxing. We will definitely come back and will recommend this rental to our friends and family.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

I have stayed at this house two years running and hope to come back again and again. The house is the most comfortable home I have rented in Vacationland. The set up is comfortable, keeping up with household items like the wash is easy and the house itself has all the modern amenities. But, the best part of this house is the delightful breezes that keep this place comfortable. With windows throughout and the upper level of the house the breezes and ceiling fans keep the place at a perfect temperature for lounging and sleeping. The overhang from the surrounding balcony keeps the water out but the cool air flowing in. Darryl just completed the addition of a large lanai that takes advantage of the sun and the ocean view. It is great for dining and sunbathing! Personally, I will take the large hammock on the covered balcony, but the sunshine is readily available on the new lanai! I really didn't want to share this great review because I want to keep this place all to myself! But I have to give Darryl credit to the wonderful house he has built/Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Loved it here! A short walk to the the tide pools. The house itself is beautiful. Everyone felt right a home as soon as the door opened. The hammock on the lanai is a must do. My 2 teenage boys were so worn out from the days activities, never turned on the TV. Close to lots of activities yet seems far enough away to completely relax and enjoy!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Nice home, very well maintained and clean. Lanai was expansive and very usable. Even had a hammock. Nice out of the way place, quiet (except the Coqui Frogs, which we actually enjoyed). Just a short walk to the tide pools and the warmest water snorkling I have ever done.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

We are repeat offenders, returning to the decks, palms, hammock, library, bananas, and fantastic custom 25 ft. high ceilings with atrium windows year after year! A well stocked kitchen, open concept living area and all the ammenities of home and more keep us coming back. Great location, cooperative management, special touches throughout. Darryl and his family have created a space where 'mi casa is tu casa' translates to a genuine Hawaiian experience. Try it, the best value we have ever found after 10 plus years of Big Island visits.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway.

My 4 year old (at the time), wife, and I stayed at this home in 2009 and very much loved it. We felt like locals and were about at relaxed as we've ever been. Loved the sweet smelling air, tropical gardens, sea turtles, and warm people. My wife and I had a marvelous time on the Big Island exploring Hawaii's last frontier. Kapoho is a real slice of paradise within tropical climate zone with Kona weather...sunny! Only a 10 minute drive from the nearest town of Pahoa and only 30 min from Hilo airport made this getaway a perfect place to stay. We arrived into Hilo late evening so after a long day in flight, it was wonderful to stay in this beautiful home, waking up to the sounds of a tropical paradise. This spacious home is comfortable and beautifully decorated for the tropics. A home away from home with all of the amenities for an enjoyable vacation; large Lanai with outdoor grill and hammock, secure garage to make sure rental car is safe, and a short walk to the safest snorkeling on the east side of Hawaii. The famous Kapoho tide pools are located in the neighborhood! The tide pools are AMAZING - filled with live coral, tropical fish, eels, turtles....snorkeling in the pools was fantastic and it's SAFE! Every morning, we enjoyed a dip in the warm springs located about five minutes from the house, so invigorating. The Pahoa & Hilo farmers markets had local art and crafts, fresh produce, and local cuisine. The Sunday Macuu market was my wife's favorite. Don't forget your camera especially your under water camera, we have so many memories captured from snorkeling in the tide pools, Volcano National Park, tops of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, Wiapio Valley, Kalapana, black sand beaches, and botanical gardens. There is so much to see and do on the Big Island and Daryl's home was the perfect place to use as our home base for our excursions. The property manager Winston was very friendly and answered any questions we had, as a matter of fact we loved this neighborhood so much Winston (who's also a real estate agent) showed us property and houses in the neighborhood before we left and two moths later we bought our own slice of paradise one block away from Daryl's incredible home. So thank you Daryl, Kathy and Winston.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
