Montrose house description
In Montrose you will be at the gateway of numerous Colorado experiences. Skiing or hiking in Telluride, the mountains and hot springs in Ouray, and The Black Canyon of the Gunnison (second deepest canyon in America); all are within close proximity to Montrose and Trout River Ranch.
Trout River Ranch sits on twelve acres, with 1/4 mile of river frontage, situated less than 15 minutes from downtown Montrose and the Montrose Regional Airport.
Trout River Ranch is a two story 3800 square foot brick home with five bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths. The comfortable decor is ecclectic/rustic and reflects our other business as purveryors of unique and vintage furniture. The furnishings tend to change as we make new finds and sell older pieces so don't hesitate to ask if there is a piece you would like to take home. A well equipped kitchen, a game room with pool table, and a sun room will enhance your vacation experience. An attached two car garage is available for your winter comfort.
You can fish on the Uncompahgre River (50' out the back door), soak in the hot tub, play pool or watch TV in the spacious recreation room; or just relax on one of the four decks around the home.
A manicured, mature landscape with lots of trees and vegetation surrounds the home, extending to the banks of the Uncompaghre, a cottonwood forest runs along our 1/4 mile of river, and we have a large fire pit near the river's edge.
Hundreds of acres of public land are available for four-wheeling, dirt bike riding, and horseback adventures less than one mile from Trout River Ranch.
Wildlife, including deer, ducks, geese, blue heron, beaver, and bald eagles (Dec-Feb) can be seen on the property.
Planning a family gathering? We have working relationships with local caterers who can create a feast from Barbeque to Prime Rib and everything in between. Trout River Ranch Concierge Services are available to make your stay more enjoyable...and your vacation memorable.

Our group of eight were very comfortable in the house. The kitchen was well stocked, the beds were comfortable, and the privacy was great. The grounds are beautiful and fishing for trout was fun. We were hunting at a nearby large private ranch. In the past we would always eat in Montrose at night. This visit we fixed meals at the house, it was like being at home. We did visit our favorite restaurant in Montrose one night, The Stone House. We plan to stay in the house again next year. I wound definitely recommend this house to my friends and family.

We came for the Black Canyon Triathlon and this house was perfect for our group, especially the hot tub to soak our tired muscles! The photos of the home were accurate, but the exterior landscape photos don't do justice to the beauty of the setting! The home was clean and well-maintained and had every amenity we needed. Jan met us at the house upon arrival, walked us through everything and answered all our last minute questions. I would absolutely recommend this property and look forward to staying there again for next year's Tri.

Family Reunion weekend
Family Reunion weekend
Trout River Ranch is in a very beautiful and private setting! With a great outside space including a yard, the river, a fire pit, hot tub and gazebo, there was someone for every family member. The house is beautifully decorated and fully equipped including and excellently stocked kitchen. The kids in our group loved the family room and pool table so that they could have their own space while the "grown ups" were in the spacious livingroom. Jan was a gracious hostess and very accommodating. We had a great weekend

We rented Trout River ranch for our Labor Day family reunion. Our family includes 9 adults, 4 young children, 1 teenager and the family dog. This was perfect for our family. The welcome visit with the owner's daughter was helpful in orienting us to the Ranch and Ranch rules. We enjoyed the river (did a little fishing), the hot tub, the game room with pool table, piano and organ, the beautiful bedrooms and comfy beds. The house is big enough for quiet time, if needed. The huge expanse of mowed lawn was perfect for relaxing or reading or for the children to run and throw frisbees, and was great for the afternoon of Family Olympics. Several family members pitched a tent end slept almong the trees. The house has incredible views from every window. The house was extremely clean and stocked with everything we needed for our stay (extra paper products, towels, iron, ironing board hammer and a nail, kids toys, a basketball). We brought all of our own food and cooked all of our meals. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to make breakfast smoothies or chocolate chip cookies. The dining room was a bit small for all 14 of us so we had to eat in shifts. It was convenient that the town of Montrose was only 5 miles away when we realized we forgot a few items. We bought fresh mussels and halibut from the local fish market and shopped the Boardwalk antique stores. The Ranch was a perfect place for our family and I would highly recommend it to others. We loved our weekend there.

Perfect home away from home!
Perfect home away from home!
Trout River Ranch was the perfect home away from home for two families with six teenagers total. The property is very clean and well maintained. The owner Dennis is friendly and helpful. The kids enjoyed the pool table and playing the organ. Everyone loved being next to the river. We hope to return on future visits to Montrose.

We love the San Juans!
We love the San Juans!
We had our three grown children, two spouses and 3 grandkids at this property for a weeklong vacation. The property has wonderful grounds on the banks of a flowing river that had a park-like feel. There was plenty of room for activities and we spent a fair amount time outside, especially at night when we enjoyed sitting around the fire. The property is a short drive to the towns of Ridgway, Ouray and Telluride. Montrose was a short drive away when we needed to make a stop at the grocery store. The San Juan mountains had so many opportunities for hiking and sightseeing that we could have spent a month there and not seen everything. Jan and Dennis were close if we needed them but never intrusive. We loved the privacy and would highly recommend the experience for others.

Our family of 5, 2 adults & 3 kids loved our stay at Trout River Ranch! Dennis and Janet were great hosts. They greeted us on arrival and were there to answer any questions we had. Dennis also gave me a great tip on where to try my luck at fishing, and later that morning I came back with a 19" brown trout. Yep, take a look at the pictures for the proof. The big one didn't get away this time. That completed my Colorado vacation :) The house was perfect for our family. Each kid loved to get their own room. They played pool, games, and some horse shoes out back. Each night we sat down together in the living room and played board games. It was like being at home.

Relaxing by the river
Relaxing by the river
This was just the ticket for a vacation with my kids and grand kids. They loved the river sounds, beautiful green grass and flowers, the pool table, hot tub, basketball hoop and just the feeling of relaxing in Colorado. The place is spotless and and just beacons you to come back again and again. We loved it.

Great Place for a Wedding
Great Place for a Wedding
Trout River was the perfect location for our wedding! We were able to have the bridal party stay at the house which was wonderful. The ceremony and reception were all at the same location. Trout River has a great relationship with the local party planning store, so it was easy to coordinate tent setup and delivery of tables and chairs. Denny and Jan worked with us to plan everything out for the wedding in advance and were very helpful! This is a great place for a wedding, but it is also a great place to relax too!

About the owner: Dennis grew up in the Cleveland area of Ohio and attended college in Boulder, Colorado; after which he traveled around the Western U.S. in search of a place to plant his roots and raise a family. Jan grew up in Los Angeles and spent her summers in the Eastern Sierras. When she found Montrose she knew she was home.
Why the Owner Chose Montrose:
Colorado always called to Dennis to return; which he eventually did when he discovered Montrose. In the late '70s-early '80s the Montrose area was beginnig to grow and he saw this community as the perfect setting to settle down, begin a small business, and start a family. Dennis found the property that is now Trout River Ranch and knew he was home. With the river flowing through the property, the cottonwoods, and the wildlife his children were able to grow up in a setting that can only described as Nirvana. Over the years his children raised horses, sheep, geese, ducks, chickens, goats, cats and dogs here. They played in the river, rode dirt bikes in the surrounding hills, and skiied on the slopes in nearby Telluride. Denny feels truly lucky to have spent 33 years in such an amazing and diverse country setting; he now feels it is time to share this very special home and property with people looking for a special vacation experience.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The river, the views, the privacy, and the proximity to town make this property the ideal central hub for a stay in Western Colorado.
