The Fattoria I Ricci, an ancient 17th century estate situated on the lush Tuscan hills set against the backdrop of the spectacular Apennines, offers its guests the opportunity to relax in a thoroughly natural environment and not only provides the perfect place to spend a relaxing holiday in a totally natural environment but offers it guests comfort and quality.
The complex is composed of the Villa Padronale, the family quarters, the romantic La Casina, an early 20th century wooden structure situated near the main building, and the La Fattoria just behind that with 3 Apartments.
The Fattoria is surrounded by a luxuriant park of age-old trees, which includes rare exemplars, in the middle of which we find a swimming pool with a breathtaking view of the valley below. Olive groves & vineyards surround the estate and provide the extra-virgin olive oil and wine.
The accurate renovation of the ground floor of the Fattoria has equipped the structure with two huge Sale for special event.
THE ESTABLISHMENT: Great attention was given to the original antique structure throughout the restoration making it possible to maintain the building’s unique quality and characteristics. The complex is composed of the Villa, the family quarters, the romantic La Casina, a wooden structure situated near the main building, and the La Fattoria just behind that. The estate was once the economic centre of the area: it had an oil mill where peasants brought olives to be ground, as well as a carpenter’s shop, a vat-room and a wine-cellar where the ancient entrance for carts still stands. The accurate renovation of the ground floor of the Fattoria has equipped the structure with two huge Sale furnished with fine Tuscan period pieces. The sand stone steps that lead to the first floor take us to 3 Apartments (Pendolino, Leccino, Frantoio) and an adjoining laundry room that provides every convenience. The run of a fabulous park with aage old Cedars of Lebanon, Sequoias and an enormous century old Holm Oak.
THE HALLS: The Mugello hillside offers a particularly enchanting backdrop for Weddings and Special Events.
The Fattoria (on the ground floor) once held a Tinaia (vat-room), a Frantoio (oil mill), and Falegnameria (carpenter’s shop); today after a thorough renovation, one side of the floor holds two huge halls complete with typical Tuscan beamed ceilings, antique Tuscan furniture and other period pieces, an enormous sand stone fireplace, as well as a professional-style kitchen, which make it perfect for catered events, and two bathrooms. The other side of the floor holds the Vecchio Frantoio hall. In this fully renovated room we can still admire age old stone presses for crushing olives. This particularly characteristic room is ideal for unsophisticated Buffet-style events. The greater Saloni, Vecchio Frantoio and the Park are available for private parties and events.

Tuscany is extraordinarily varied. There are the long blue hills of the Maremma in the south, flowing down to the plains and the sea; or the strange faded clays of the Crete Senesi, punctuated dramatically by dark stands of cypress and umbrella pine. Then there is the Mugello, a place, in December, of clear, glowing skies periodically brushed by veils of mist, above a landscape of dramatic, rolling Tuscan lushness. An hour's drive from Florence, in Rostolena, a hamlet in the hills above Vicchio, Caterina and Riccardo run a beautiful old manorial farmhouse and a set of well-appointed apartments. They are absolutely charming and ever-ready with advice about everything from parking in Florence to local food. We stayed in Leccino and revelled in the silence and pure air, the open fireplace (unlimited wood is available free), well-appointed kitchen (Christmas dinner, Italian-style, was a cinch, and there are many good local supermarkets), and superb local restaurants such as Caldetino. There's plenty of walking and wildlife (the area is alive with buzzards and owls); easy drives to intriguing smaller towns such as Pistoia, or a bit further to Lucca, the towns of Chianti, Siena and of course the rarefied delights of Florence; even the possibility of visiting the birthplace of Giotto nearby, although this attribution is, like so much about this genius, a disputed matter. Further afield, you're within driving distance of Bologna or even Venice, and can easily hop on the Italo train to Rome at Florence's Stazione Santa Maria Novella (an hour and 20 minutes and 40 euros each way, although for that price you must buy tickets online in advance...and note that this drops you at Stazione Tiburtina in Rome, not Termini). In short, you're in the midst of wonders here; and can make as busy or as relaxed a time of it as you wish. Note that there's a swimming pool and breakfast available outside the winter months. Leccino is perfect for a small family, with extra sleep room available via a sofabed.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
