We had an amazing time at Media Luna. It's extremely well located and has conveniences like groceries, restaurants, etc literally a few mins away. But the real deal for this property - the VIEW! It is on the Gulf of Mexico, and the evening sunsets will be some that you never forget. It has it's own private little "marina" with a seawall that will protect your boat (we had a 27' world cat, no problem getting it in & out). The waters surrounding it are full of life, when we weren't fishing (it's a quick trip around the end of the key to the ocean, where we fished offshore all week) we snorkel'ed & fished off the seawall. Lobsters galore, sharks (small, don't worry!) and of course tarpon were common visitors. There's a screen room that faces the gulf that's a great place to get away from bugs/etc (really weren't any to speak of when we were there, but in case that's on your mind) and enjoy a drink & good company. Bev (owner) is very responsive, pleasant to speak with & easy to deal with. We will definitely return next year.

Best house ever!
Best house ever!
I've been coming to the Keys for 37 years now and this is one of the best rental houses I've ever stayed at. Lots of room for family and friends. Comfortable beds, big living area, nice dining area and kitchen, but the best part is the screened patio. Perfect for relaxing in the shade after a day at the reef. And the sunsets are breathtaking. I have a 24 ft boat and had no trouble docking here and open water is minutes away at either Vaca Cut, or the 7 Mile Bridge. Already booked my week for next year!!

We Had A Fantastic Time
We had a fantastic time -- the weather was great and we got to do most of the things we wanted. One of us had an underwater camera with a video option so we all got to "snorkel" around the boat basin and Rachel Key. We always knew there were lots of lobsters on the outside wall of the boat basin but we were surprised to learn there are even more along the wall inside the boat basin. We saw a pod of 8 manatees (adults and young) swim right by the boat basin one afternoon and some of us got to see them again when they swam by in the opposite direction at sunset. That was one of the highlights of our trip. Everything at the house was fine, housekeeping was good. Thank you for making your house available to us. I'm sure we'll be back in a few years -- if you haven't realized our dream of moving in permanently.

Great Vacation Home!
Great Vacation Home!
My husband and our two young sons recently traveled with another family who also have two children. This home was perfect for our Keys vacation. It was clean and well stocked with towels, linens, and everything we needed in the kitchen. Our favorite part was sitting on the private seawall watching all of the fish, lobsters, sting rays, and even a nurse shark swim by while watching the gorgeous sunsets. Every room of the house had a clear view over the water and the covered porch was a great place to relax in. The owner was very helpful in answering any questions we had and was very easy to work with. We were a short drive from Sombrero Beach and and only an hour away from Key West or the upper Keys. I look forward to visiting Media Luna the next time we head to the Keys.

Owner response: We are delighted another family found Media Luna and wish to return. It is always a pleasure to hear that a planned family vacation turned out great.
Wow! Media Luna is a fabulous retreat to escape the rat race! The two of us wanted a quiet get-away in the middle of September and it surpassed all our expectations. The homeowner and property caretakers are genuinely friendly and really easy to work with. The property was very clean, well maintained, and stocked with everything you need and more to make your stay a "home away from home" experience. The location was just perfect. Marathon is situated midway between Key Largo and Key West, allowing us to travel up and down the Keys in an hour or two to experience the different flavors of each individual Key. The water access from the back patio area is understated. The boat basin is like having a huge private aquarium right outside your back door. We saw lobster, rays, and endless varieties and colors of tropical fish. We casually snorkeled from the basin out to the sea wall and beyond, and observed cormorants, pelicans, osprey, and even a frigatebird soaring overhead. Every bedroom has outstanding views of the water, and sunsets over the gulf were breathtaking. We wanted to say thank you for sharing your piece of paradise with us. Will and Laura

Wonderful vacation home
Wonderful vacation home
My husband and I whole heartedly agree with each review written. This home is everything and more than we expected and we felt very relaxed and comfortable there. The house, location, view, sunsets and clear water surrounding the seawall are exceptional . The owner is very helpful and pleasant to work and communicate with. The photos and amenities listed provide an accurate description. We found the Turtle Hospital interesting, rented a boat with Captain Tommy from Take Me There Charters (who turned a day where the weather conditions were not ideal into one of the highlights of our vacation) and loved the food and key lime pie at Mrs. Mac's Kitchen. We would not hesitate to stay at Media Luna again and have highly recommended this home to several of our friends and family. Thank you again for sharing your home with us!

We really enjoyed our stay in Marathon. The sunsets every night were so awesome. (Postcard material) The neighborhood is quiet and people around very friendly. This property is perfect for a medium sized group or family. The house has all amenities and plenty of room if you need some quiet time. We are looking forward to another trip in the future.

Owner response: So glad we have added another family to our "happy renters." Look forward to having you return.
We stayed in this home with 2 families with younger but school aged children. It was a perfect fit. We were close enough to Key West to shop and explore but could head back to the house near dark as well. Sombrero Beach was wonderful as well. We had a great stay!

Christmas in the Keys
Christmas in the Keys
This was our second year at Media Luna for a Christmas holiday with my parents. The house is in a terrific location - right on the Gulf with spectacular sunset views every night - and it is very comfortable with all the amenities we need: fully equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, linens/towels, etc. In addition, the owner generously provides access to four bikes - great for cruising the neighborhood and the nearby bike trail. Marathon and Media Luna provide a great "home base" for a Keys vacation - lots of great restaurants nearby, a kayak rental shop that will deliver and pick up at the door (great for cruising the canals near the house), and an easy drive to state parks and Key West. The local beach, Sombrero Beach, is peaceful and clean, and the surf is gentle. We highly recommend Media Luna and hope to return there soon!

About the owner: Frank & I have enjoyed our piece of paradise over the years, first while raising our 3 boys, and now with their families --which include 8 grandchildren. While we have lived in a wooded neighborhood in Virginia all these years, our hearts are at Media Luna with unlimited water views.
Why the Owner Chose Marathon:
We fell in love with our half-moon shaped home while house shopping on a cloudy day while our sons golfed at the par 3 nearby golf course. Being in a quiet neighborhood with proximity to grocery stores and shopping sealed our decision. The sandy beach we could bike or drive to also did not hurt.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Nothing beats the view when walking thru the front door, unlimited horizon views thru 24 feet of 8 foot high sliding glass doors. The 925 s.f. screened porch with a lobster trap bar that had a wood top from a salvaged ship sold us on Media Luna. We also loved the circular driveway which provided covered parking to keep our car shaded from the fabulous Keys sun.
