Sewanee apartment description
Need a break from the stress of city life? Do you enjoy outdoor activities? Come to the Cumberland Plateau and stay at the Carriage House. The Carriage House is ideal for Parents' Weekend, homecomings and graduations at the University of the South and St. Andrews Sewanee. If you love the outdoors South Cumberland State Park visitors and information center is about 7 minutes away. The park, which includes Sewanee Natural Bridge, Fiery Gizzard Trail, Foster Falls, Savage Gulf, Stone Door, Greeter Falls, Meadow Trail and Grundy Lakes has some of the most noted hiking trails in the country. If you truly need to relax go no further than the gardens and trails of the Carriage House. We are nestled approximately 2 miles from Highway 56 on part of a 400 acre farm. The Carriage House is the end of the trail and is quiet and peaceful. The butterfly garden attracts many visitors. It is filled with butterfly bushes, bee balm, lantana, phlox, lilies and of course, butterflies. Hostas, trilliums, and columbine make up the shade garden. Red buds, dogwoods and river birch are beautiful spring, summer and fall. A short walk away is the duck pond. The ducks are very friendly and love to be fed. Hopefully, you'll also see a visiting crane, deer or turkey. Bluebird trail leads to Bluebird Rock with its spectacular view of the gulf and Payne's Cove.

You might be interested in seeing the historic coke ovens or walking the trails around Tracy Lakes. After your hike, visit the oldest bakery in Tennessee, The Dutch Maid Bakery. University of the South is only a short distance away where cultural activities abound. Concerts, plays, and guests speakers are regular fare. Head in the opposite direction and visit Beersheba Springs with its historic Methodist Assembly Grounds and its original log homes. If you are hungry a 10 minute drive takes you to Monteagle for fast food or relaxed dining. The Smoke House offers live music on weekends. High Point provides historic dining on the summit between Chicago and Miami. Local legend has it that Al Capone stayed at High Point on trips between his Chicago and Florida homes. Some of the best barbecue, anywhere, can be found at Smokin B's. If you want to stay closer to home we are located on a 400 acre farm with several miles of bluff views, walking trails, and roads. I stayed in the house with some of my friends during the Sewanee homecoming weekend. The house is absolutely lovely and has lots of adorable touches. It is in a beautiful, secluded area. If you are driving to Sewanee from the house, the commute is not very far, only about 25 minutes. I would absolutely recommend staying in this wonderful home!

When you step inside this beautiful mountain cabin you feel like you're coming home. A warm cozy atmosphere with everything you need and immaculately clean. It has great hiking trails and fantastic scenery and the two dogs Roxie and Charley will be your friends immediately. Jim and Melba....we enjoyed our visit tremendously and hated to leave but will be back soon!

Owner response: Sherman and Sandra, You said you felt like you were home when you stepped inside, that's the way we felt about you, like we'd known you forever. We enjoyed spending time and talking with you and hope to see you soon. Remember to bring Levi, we'll put the cats inside and let her run with Charley and Roxie. Stay safe in your travels and keep in touch. Jim and Mel
This lovely carriage house is located in Tracy City. The grounds are so beautiful from the sitting garden just outside the carriage house to the butterfly garden. We really enjoyed sitting on the landing at the upstairs entrance sipping coffee, enjoying the greenery all around. The apartment is quiet, private and was such an enjoyable getaway and the owners so kind and accommodating. We would love to come and stay again!

Comfortable accommodations, quiet, and scenic views
Comfortable accommodations, quiet, and scenic views
The accommodations were excellent. Everything was squeaky-clean, the furniture and bed was so comfortable, and it is so tastefully furnished. It's off the beaten path so the only sounds you are likely to hear are the birds and an occasional squirrel. The hiking trails are relatively easy and lead to some breath-taking views of unspoiled nature. All in all, it was a wonderful experience. It was my first visit here but it won't be my last.
