I stayed at Seadrift with my family of 8 visiting from France over the 2012-13 end of the year holidays. The house and its surroundings provided an ideal setting to take a break from the hustle of everyday life, reunite with family and engage with nature. The house is conducive to conviviality, a quality that was important to us in the context of a vacation. The interior of the house is comfortable and decorated with care. It features a vast and bright living room which has an open layout spread over two levels. A set of two stairs leads to a seating area that is flanked with comfortable sofa and chairs and a fireplace. Stepping up from there is the kitchen with on one side a dining area separated from the kitchen by a low counter, and on the other a lounging/reading area separated from the kitchen by a bar counter. This living room offered plenty of space for the 8 of us and was very functional. It opens to a outdoor deck area, itself extending on two levels, with the lower level giving direct access to the man-made lagoon. The sleeping arrangements are many. They include a large master bedroom and two secondary bedrooms. There is also a sleeping nook over the living room that is accessible with a ladder. This nook was the sleeping quarter of choice of my young niece and nephew. The lounge/reading area is also fitted with two day beds/benches. Seadrift provides a quick access to nature and the beauty of Stinson Beach, the lagoon and Bolinas. We enjoyed many beautiful sunsets walking from the house to the far end of the lagoon and returning by way of the beach, looping back to the house through the other end of Seadrift. Stinson Beach is at the feet of stunning mount Tamalpais, a destination for nature lovers and hikers alike. Muir Woods is also a locals' favorite, so is the charming Pelican Inn Pub nearby. Seadrift is about 20 mms to Mill Valley, which has a WholeFoods market, a Community Center with a swimming pool, and charming older city center. It is also about 30mns from the city of San Francisco along the coastal road. The drive to the city, which we did almost every day offers stunning vistas of the California Coast, the Pacific and the city. We highly recommend this property as a vacation retreat. Although situated 30mns from SF, the scenic drive is a gift to enjoy while it last...Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children.

Our family of six enjoyed this serene house very much. It is particularly well equipped for young children, with a host of books, games and other distractions. The Great Room and master bedroom are exceptionally spacious, though the guest room is on the small side. On the other hand, there is a charming sleeping loft, perfect for older children who will enjoy the access by ladder. The kitchen equipment is of top quality, as is the splendid Weber grill on the deck. When the weather co-operated, we ate all three meals outside, enjoying the breeze, the birds and the transient humans navigating the lagoon by a myriad of means. The extraordinary beach is a 15 minute walk away, but a short bike ride. I would also mention for foodies that the Stinson Beach Market is astonishingly well supplied with high quality products, including daily deliveries of Brick Maiden bread and Niman Ranch meat. On Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays there is also a farm stand offering impeccable local organic produce. All in all, this is very nice choice for a restful family holiday within an hour of SF and the East Bay.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
