Together with my wife (age 48 and 51) we stayed in this apartment for one week around New Years Eve. That was one of the best decision we made in the past! I think everyone is curios after renting an apartment online, how everything you had read in the description or saw on the photos will be in reality. We can confirm to everyone it´s true or even better. A wonderful spacious, clean, fully equipped loft with a useful bathroom. The furnishings and equipment of the loft is artful, unique and exceptional in a absolute positive manner. I have never seen so many interesting books in one room before. The citymaps of Mr. van Dam are a particularity on top. They are helpful and perfect to use. The owner Gail and Stephan were very helpful, answered every question by mail and had a great understanding and cooperativness for some problems we had with our international payment and were very flexibel, when we wanted to extend our time in the loft. The place of the loft in NY is perfect. It isn´t noisy, but everything is absolutly near by. Shops, restaurants, underground in every direction,... We have the luck to be able to travel a lot around the world and we even were a few times in NY. With this experience and all impressions of this loft, we are very pleased to recommend it to all our relatives, friends or to everyone, who reads this review. We hope Gail and Stephan will never be disappointed by guests who destroy their willingness to rent their private apartment! Best wishes from Germany Thanks for this wonderful time.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I've been visiting NYC for 25 years - either for a day of meetings or, if pleasue, a three day weekend with my wife. Always stayed close to Central Park South or Rock Center and, if you're coming to the city for a day or two, I'd say that's fine... BUT - if you're coming for a week and want to get a real feel for NYC, this is the place to do it. I was in town for a three day conference and my wife joined me as we decided to extend for some fun. Here's our take - - The loft could be a movie set if the need was to have a place that looked and felt "NY" - it's open, with the bed hidden behind some bookcases and artwork, the kitchen is perfectly sized for the space (we cooked a few nights and even entertained some friends that were attending the conference with me) and there's a dining table for 8. There is a seating area that suits 8 - 10 and two walls are entirely windows (the views aren't great, but there are lacey curtains and the light is fantastic). The bathroom is efficient. The decorating is very modern and "exotic". This place is warm and, clearly, someone's home - not a sterile living space. - photos are accurate, space clean, Gail very helpful - they even left a couple of bottles of wine along with 6 pages of helpful instructions and plenty of very cool maps (her husband, Stephan VanDam is a cartographer and creator of said cool maps). - Location is fantastic - mid block between 5th and 6th so traffic/noise minimal. Metro stop close by, plenty of great things to do in the area. Eataly just around the corner, Aldea a few blocks away. Birthplace of Teddy Roosevelt is a few blocks away and worth a couple of hours if you're a history buff. - I will try to return to this place and highly recommend it.Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1994
About the owner: I am a documentary filmmaker and writer and my husband is a cartographer, graphic designer and publisher. He speaks German and English and we both speak some Spanish. We travel regularly and spend some time each winter in Oaxaca, Mexico.
Why the Owner Chose Flatiron:
We love the architecture of our neighborhood and its history. Originally our loft was a girdle factory (dating back to 1906), but when we bought the loft (1994) our building and the neighborhood was filling up with photographer studios and artists. Now it has become fashionable and the large loft buildings are turning into the silicon valley of Manhattan with lots of new high-tech, social media start-ups. But it's also exploding with new restaurants, cafes and grocery stores.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
We love the openness of traditional lofts. They are very hard to find now in Manhattan as most have been divided into little rooms. Since we had no young children we left ours open. We also love the location - central to all public transportation in New York. You can walk to the Village, Soho, the Empire State Building, mid-town or you can hop on a subway at Union Sq and be in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in 10 minutes.
