More details:

Explore Merida and the Yucatan from this sophisticated and contemporary environment - it is truly a luxury.

64 is your own private boutique space - and has been accessorized and furnished accordingly. There is a spectacular pool suite with a movable glass wall, as well as an exceptional master suite with 20 ft high beamed ceilings and reading loft, both with en-suite bathrooms.

This is a light-filled property in the day, and well thought out night-lighting makes for a dramatic evening environment. You can enjoy the sun pool-side, or on the large upper terrace, or enjoy the warmth in the shade in either of two covered terraces.

The well appointed, open-concept kitchen is set up for cooking and opens to the outdoor terrace for al fresco dining and lounging.

Our local property manager will be happy to assist renters with local arrangements (cars, tours, chef, extra cleaning, airport transfers) and can also arrange to have groceries waiting on your arrival.

64 is a unique balance of colonial and modern architecture located in the UNESCO-protected historic centre (Centro Historico) of Merida, and is ideally situated just four blocks from Parque Santa Lucia and from the main square.

The architect has retained the Colonial facade, and created a modern and contemporary interior. The tilework is an example of how the architect has created a modern property which still references its historical and contextual background - the tilework on the living room and master suite floors, and the kitchen backsplash is a traditional Yucatecan design which has been modified and updated so that it is a simpler two-tone design.

Henry Ponce won the Architectural Digest Award for 'Icons of Design' for Casa 64. Henry is well-known for his ability in blending colonial and contemporary styles. The video attached to this listing shows the flow of the house (note the furniture has changed since this video was shot).

Right from the moment we decided to rent Casa 64 the owner was engaged, accessible for any and all questions and provided a treasure trove of information on the house, city and day-to-day activities to ensure a complete experience. Transportation was waiting at the airport and Casa 64 was ready for our arrival with the management company having shopped for requested provisions and a beautiful floral centerpiece. The house was spectacular, everything was in excellent condition and everything you would need to cook and entertain was there. We had a fabulous week, rested and relaxed more then ever before and everyday was in the pool. Casa 64 is an experience that shouldn't be missed.

We had not considered Mexico as a destination in years but heard many good things about Merida. This home is the ideal home that makes a very historical location very contemporary and equipped with everything you need to make your stay comfortable. The pictures and write up accurately describe this contemporary and fully featured residence. It is ideally located close to everything that the city has to offer - you will not need a car with most everything within walking distance or an easy cab ride. It was so nice to be picked up at the airportv by the property manager (Isabel) and given a late night introduction to the home. The city is very safe so no worries about personal security.

Owner response: JH - Thanks for taking the time to post this review. I'm glad you enjoyed Merida. It was certainly a pleasure to have you and your wife at our house.

Everything about our 10 day stay in Casa 64 was wonderful, starting with the warm, friendly and helpful communications with the owner, the detailed renters information about local restaurants and events, and the beautifully furnished, decorated and maintained home. Casa 64 is a serene sanctuary from the busy city and is an architectural masterpiece, with a beautiful plunge pool and wonderful use of space. There is a fully equipped kitchen, spacious and modern bathrooms and large bedrooms, all modern, open and masterfully designed. Dining can be inside or poolside (we can't imagine why anyone would choose to eat inside!) looking up at the stars. We availed ourselves of the many nearby attractions and restaurants, and found frequent opportunities to dance to the music of local entertainers, on a Sunday afternoon in a local piazza, and at midnight on the grande plaza. We highly recommend Casa 64 to Merida visitors seeking a chic and comfortable place to call home for a few days.

We really enjoyed staying there. We weren't sure we were going to like it after staying in a renovated colonial, but we really did. The design is stunning, and we particularly liked the furniture, which was much more comfortable than what we had in the other house, particularly the beds and pillows. The towels were great too. The fact that there were several outdoor spaces where one could go and read was nice for a group -- we each had our own private space. The outdoor furniture was high quality and there was a lot of it, so we could each have a lounge, couch or chair, which wasn't true in many of the homes we looked at. Isabel met us and showed us around the house, and we thought she was terrific -- very thorough and action-oriented. Based on our experience at the other property, your property managers were much better. We visited Chichen Itza very early one morning before the crowds arrived and the kids were lamenting the fact that they couldn't climb the pyramids which we had done many years earlier. We went to Ek Balam which is another group of ruins where you can still climb, and they really enjoyed it. We also went to the cenote that they have on site, which was much more adventuresome than others we've visited in the past. We didn't pay the extra fees, but when we arrived at the cenote itself, the guides allowed everyone to do the Tarzan swing which was a bit of a thrill for we old people

Beautiful home. Great central location within walking distance to several restuarants and downtown attractions. Home was very comfortable with a quiet central courtyard. Great European flavor to the area. Reliable local quides.

              Year Purchased: 2012

About the owner: As a couple of Canadians edging toward the dream of retirement, we're always looking for a great warm place in the winter to get away from our busy lives. We love great architecture, design, art and comfortable spaces where we can relax and entertain friends/family.

              Why the Owner Chose Merida:
Merida is authentic Mexico - and this house is at the center of it all. We get to Merida as often as we can and wanted an easy, spectacular rental property we could call our own. This house certainly fits the bill. We bought the house in early 2012. The former owners had fantastic taste and we were lucky to keep the best of their furniture. We've updated the living room with new furniture and with a personal love of cooking, fitted out the kitchen fit for a chef.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
The architect, Henry Ponce delivers on the design details. A perfect balance of old colonial and contemporary features blends to an open, airy concept that works! Many houses of Merida are dark but Casa 64 offers open spaces with wide open doors (spare bedroom with a glass wall that completely opens beside the pool!) and multiple covered and uncovered patios. The two king beds are the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in (I travel a ton and know good/bad beds), the bedrooms are spacious and ensuite are beautifully appointed. The house is only four blocks from Plaza Grande, Merida's central and largest square. The same distance from Parc Santa Lucia. A couple blocks further and you find yourself in the main market. Its central location means you absolutely don't need a car for your vacation....and yet there is parking right next door if you have a rental car arranged to see the many sites in the surrounding area (cenotes, Mayan ruins, Tulum, Uxmal, Chelum, Progreso...).
