Year Purchased: 1998

Why the Owner Chose Salisbury: The Apartment is within a Listed Historic (18th century) Town House. The restoration of the house was the subject of a 15 part TV documentary which followed Peter and Sandy's initial restoration of the house back in 2000. More recently the house won the prestigious Period Living Magazine's Town House of the year 2011 Award.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment: Three miles west of Salisbury,
right where the Wylye and
Nadder rivers meet, lies pretty
Wilton, an attractive market
town with a rich historical
heritage, one that stretches right back to the
8th century AD and the Anglo-Saxons. Wilton
was once the county town of Wiltshire, and
for a place of – what? Four thousand people?
– it has some remarkable claims to fame:
Alfred the Great once lost a major battle here
to advancing Danes; carpet-weaving expertise
allowed the town to give its name to perhaps
Britain’s most celebrated floor covering; while
over the years it’s been home to everything
from a major smallpox epidemic to the
scrambled egg and moustaches of Britain’s
military top brass.
The house sits in a particularly pretty
tree-lined square and is believed to
date from 1860 or thereabouts – the year that
Abraham Lincoln became US president and
Charles Dickens published his first chapters
of Great Expectations
